Scoop (2024)
Billie Piper steals the show...
I decided to watch 'Scoop' on a whim after scrolling aimlessly through the rows and rows of options on Netflix.
Having never actually seen the actual Newsnight interview in its entirety, I didn't really have any preconceived ideas of how this film would cover the topic.
Gillian Anderson is excellent, as always, but in my opinion, Billie Piper knocks it out of the park and completely steals every scene she's in.
Rufus Sewell is perfectly cast as the controversial Prince Andrew.
I might actually go and watch the infamous interview in full, just to see how much of a car crash it actually was.
Ted Lasso (2020)
This is what you need to beat the lockdown blues...
A great way to spend a few hours. Blissfully free of anything pandemic related.
Tiny Pretty Things (2020)
Oh jeez, this is bad
I hate it when a trailer is way better than a series. Save yourselves and give this a miss!
Belgravia (2020)
Horrendously dull
Shockingly bad period drama. Best to rewatch Downton Abbey.
Plan Coeur (2018)
This is fab
Great series. Highly recommended and very very funny.
Little Women (2019)
Too long
Visually gorgeous, especially the scenes in Europe but unfortunately the whole film is rather a snooze fest. I think I'll go watch the 1994 version.
Jane Eyre (2006)
Near perfect
One of Ruth Wilson's first acting roles. She is quite simply amazing.
Toby Stephens embodies the character of Mr Rochester brilliantly.
This version is miles better than the 2011 film.
Lost in Space (2018)
Wait... what?!?
When it's good it's great... when it's bad it's cringeworthy. Two seasons in and they're still nowhere near the colony of Alpha Centauri!
Also, Dr Smith is a complete and utter evil manipulator and psycho!!
The Handmaid's Tale: Witness (2019)
A return to form
Best line of this season "I mean, at least it wasn't you".
Outlander (2014)
More like an 8.5, but the first season is a solid 9
Great story, amazing locations, spectacular acting. What more could a girl ask for?
A Place to Call Home (2013)
Easy watching, feel good, 50's set Aussie drama
Great show. Could watch it all over again no problem. Watch out for David Berry (James Bligh) who would later go on to play the infamous Lord John Grey in Outlander. He is a very very good actor.
Dracula (2013)
Should have been on air longer
The story of Dracula has been retold and revamped countless times, yet this adaptation is rather well done. I've seen it a couple of times, definitely worth a look.
Monarch of the Glen (2000)
I love this show
Big fan. But it does down hill from Season 4 and then nosedives when Archie leaves. It almost redeems itself in the second half of the last season, but not quite. Still love it though. Season's 1-3 are marvellous (and worth the 8 out 10 no problem).
The Last Czars (2019)
A weird amalgamation that just doesn't work
This show doesn't know what it wants to be. Either go with a period drama or go with a documentary... don't try to mix the two. It doesn't work. Shame really as it's a very interesting subject.
