Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
C Tier Marvel Movie
I came into this film hyped and went out disappointed.
The style of this movie is very different from the previous Marvel releases (Eternals, & Shang-Chi) but it falls short just the same. There are no real consequences or stakes, the story is very disjointed at times. The cinematography I don't really know how to feel about as it definitely enhances some scenes but take away from some. The action sequences are uninspired and bland, and the power of the characters are all over the place. There is also one scene near the end where I burst out laughing because it felt so out of place.
Props to the main actors though as I feel they carried this movie. And hey at least they are trying something a bit different.
Among all other marvel films this is definitely in the C tier.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
A waste.
I actually found myself getting embarrassed for wasting the time of the people who are in the cinema with me, and I didn't even make the movie.
Some say it's not as bad as the 2nd movie in the franchise although that might be true I can say it is just as boring.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
A goddamn masterpiece
Arcane is a masterpiece.
I don't play league so I came into this not knowing anything about the characters or the lore but after watching the first episode I am hooked. I also appreciate that they opted for a different animation style rather than going with the more traditional anime/pixar like style.
The animation, music, voice acting, pacing, and story telling are all 10/10.
I recommend this to anyone even if you don't typically watch animation or play video games. I promise it will be worth your time.
Dead Kids (2019)
Mediocre
Good to passable acting.
Cinematography is ok.
Cringy Dialogue.
The main character is supposedly a smart dude but almost everything is dumb.
What was even the point of Sue Ramirez's character? When you search for this movie you see her name on the list of actors first but for what?
She wasn't really a plot device or a 'Chekov's gun' in a sense. She was just there...
The King (2019)
Passable movie
Historically Inaccurate even by Shakespeare's standard. The armor Henry wore during the battle of Agincourt reeked of 'we need to show the actor's face'. I mean come on! he has a mail hoodie which he didn't even wear on his head. I do give props though for not using swords as the Knight's main weapon during battle.
The acting is good, although Robert Pattinson's french accent really bothered me and I couldn't take it seriously. The story though is different, it bothered me a lot. not just because of its historical inaccuracies but also on how the characters were portrayed. This is not an acting problem because as I have said the actors did well it is more on the directing or writing side of things where this movie fell short. The characters aren't likable and I found it hard to sympathize with them. I don't really want to spoil the movie so I'll just end the review here.
so TLDR: You can watch this is you have nothing else to watch but if you have any sort of love for history and the medieval setting then DON'T! you'll just hurt yourself :D
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
More of a prologue than an actual movie.
This is a farewell to Jesse and not much. You wouldn't be able to show this to someone who hasn't seen Breaking Bad and expect them to 'get the film' or enjoy it. I like BB and I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to. It's probably because I expected too much and thought this would be a good standalone movie. Instead what we got is a gloried farewell to our beloved junkie.
I think it is shot better than a TV show but not quite as good as the top movies of today. The acting is good and consistent. The thing I don't get though is how fast Jessie got over his supposedly being traumatized.
Anyways, if you love Breaking bad and want to scratch that itch go and watch it.
Ad Astra (2019)
Great visuals...
The visuals were great! the story and science though, not so much.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Good movie for everyone.
The theater I was in was full of senior citizens and kids and all seemed to love it. So if you are not much of a Marvel fan boy and just want to watch a fun movie this is the movie for you and your family. It might be a little predictable for those who really follows the MCU and comics but I guarantee that you will enjoy it.
The comedy, action, acting and everything else is great. There may be times when you might question some decisions of the characters but you will realize why soon enough, so save your criticism and watch till the end. And do not miss the after credit scene. Seriously, don't!
Brightburn (2019)
Nothing special
It was an OK movie, you won't be hurrying to go home and tell your friends and anyone who would listen about it. The movie has an interesting premise that could've been truly great if explored further and not get dragged down by the generic horror / suspense tropes. The actors I think did great, though I'm still unsure whether the kid is a good actor or not. Anyways if you are looking for a movie to watch on your free time and with friends I think you could enjoy this movie especially with its 80-90 mins run time.
Score: 6.5/10
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Bittersweet? more like bland.
Let's just remove season 5-8 from our minds. Only season 1-4 is show canon.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Not all that glitters is gold.
The visuals, atmosphere, score and directing were good. It feels just like a movie and it really sets the tone of the episode. But as the title suggest just because it looks good doesn't mean it's good.
- The Dothraki's flaming sword charge and the way the flames disappeared as they get obliterated by the army of the dead was cool but it really bothered me as to why they charged in the first place? What were they trying to accomplish aside from adding more meat for the AOTD?
Then it actually got better from here. Aside from the excessive plot armor and deus ex machina it was going great.
Then the anti-climatic ending happened. Im gonna try to keep this part short so here it is.
Why arya? and how?
I get that they were trying to subvert our expectations but come on. Arya saw them for like an hour, she has no connection to them except for them trying to kill everyone. There wasn't any build-up up to the point aside from Mel repeating her prophecy. (btw Beric was kept alive by R'hollor for that scene lol).
They have been teasing a fight with Jon and the NK since Hardhome and all we got was a staredown followed by Jon managing to survive a thousand wights without getting swarmed.
Then Bran was useless this whole episode, he wasn't even reporting anything when he skinchanged the ravens(warging is only for wolves). Sure you could argue that he knows what will happen but that will open up a lot of plot holes not just for this episode.
There were a lot of things I thought of that while watching the episode that I personally think could've made the episode a lot better but I won't write them here. The only thing I am excited about right now is the faint hope that after the series end, George will announce the next book.
TLDR: Spectacle over substance.
Searching (2018)
Unconventional well written movie.
I love how they decided to only use screens to tell this story. That alone would be hard to do, but to also make it compelling and capable of showing emotions and character is a testament to the writer's ability. The way someone types something they meant to say and deletes it before sending a completely different message was a brilliant way to show what the character is really thinking in that moment.
The reveal of the real killer was also handled well. It wasn't a complete rabbit out of the hat moment because they took time to subtlety drop hints or pieces of information that is crucial to the perpetrator's motivation.
So if you are looking for a good mystery/crime thriller, this movie is highly recommended. I am still wondering why I haven't heard of this film in social media, the oscars or any other awards show.
Shazam! (2019)
Pretty solid movie, Would watch again
Would have to see it again to give a more detail review, but from my first viewing I can say that it is a pretty solid DC movie. It's funny, story is good and the movie does well in recalling details introduced earlier in the movie even though they only play a small part in the overall story.
To keep things short, this movie is the perfect movie to watch with your kids/a younger audience. The cinema applauded after the movie and everyone left fulfilled and happy
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
I watch this movie at least twice a year
One of Edgar Wright's bests. As the title says, I watch this movie whenever I get the urge to see a movie but don't know what to watch. It is my default movie because it is funny, well directed, well choreographed and very well edited. I like how it transitions from a scene/cut very creatively as we've come to expect from Edgar.
Well I don't have a more articulate or detailed review as it's been months since I last saw this movie but since I just made this IMDB account I thought I'd at least review one of my favorite movies first :D
Bumblebee (2018)
MEH-vie
The only thing I found good about this movie is the relationship of Bee and Charlie. It would've been better though if have done that while actually moving the plot. There are a lot of scenes here that could've been cut and replaced with scenes that would actually matter, like memo(the male support actor). He is unfunny and distracts the viewers from the actual 'heart of the story' which is again the relationship of Bee and Charlie. A proof of how utterly disposable this character is for the plot is that before the final confrontation he volunteers to be left behind which is pointless as you would see if you've watched the movie. I don't want to waste more time writing this so I would just do a pros and cons list.
Pros:
Bee and Charlies Relationship
Cons:
John Cena's acting
Memo
Bee's plot armor
A lot of scenes that doesn't move the plot
