Donnie Darko (2001)
Dark and Beautiful, A great film
I really enjoyed this film.
This film is a wonderful piece of film making. It was so original. It isn't often that you go to a film that you feel is something that hasn't ever been thought of before. I think that is one of the strongest parts of the film.
The storyline is a bit hard to grasp but only in the sense that it makes the viewer an active participant in the process.
See this film if you can, It is a wonderful dark ride.
p.s. Film Fact. At the films first public showing of the film at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the reels was thread backwards and upside down. The caused a 1 hour delay in the middle of the film. During this time the director answered questions and Stuart Stone rapped and danced to an audience provided beat box.
Margarita Happy Hour (2001)
Fine Piece of Independent Film Making
This is a fine independent film.
The performances were very good. The women and men staring in the film gave this sometimes over wrought script humanity and humor.
The direction was excellent. I thought that the film suceeded both in communicating the humanity of the characters without losing a coherent visual style and mode of communication.
I hope this finds a distributor.
My First Mister (2001)
A very enjoyable film experience.
This was an enjoyable film with some great performances.
I thought that Albert Brooks really was the highlight of the movie. He played the part of "R" very well.
This is a film that is Hollywood style in many ways but lends some important nods to the independent cinema is outlook and some nice stylistic touches. The story was sweet and life affirming but not quite to the point of being overdone.
Altogether, a enjoyable night at the cinema.
