The Mummy Returns (2001)
YES! A worthy sequel! (SPOILER city!)
An awesome movie. Words don't do it justice..............
Rick after... a very tragic point of the movie, was one of the most awesome action heroes I've seen. After Anck-su-namun walked out on Imhotep, I wanted to cry when I saw tears in Imho's eyes. I have one gripe, just ONE complaint about this awesome movie: The Scorpion King's final form did not look very realistic at ALL. I have to agree with my mom that it looked more like a cartoon Rock on a scorpion's body.
Well I'm not gonna spoil the movie any more for you guys, just go and see it for yourself and you WILL say "WOW!"
EazyCheeze, who is eagerly awaiting 'The Scorpion King' next Christmas.
The Matrix (1999)
My favorite sci-fi movie ever!
Yes, though I am a Classic Trekkie, I think even the best classic Trek movie, Star Trek II, pales in comparison to this great piece of plastic (we own it on DVD, lucky us).
The story was somewhat original when it first came out: Neo, a man living in what he thinks is the real world, comes to the realization (with the help of Morpheus and his colleagues) that he's living in a computer-generated simulation, to keep his mind busy and unaware while the evil Machines use his body and the bodies of billions of others as power source.
Well, that's the basic storyline, and it's one with very awesome potential. Of course, Neo and his buddies whoop up on their enemies; I won't tell you how... I will let you be blown away by the direction and wire-work, not to mention the special effects (Bullet time! You have to see it to understand it completely).
I can't wait for the sequel, but it looks like I'll have to (come on, 2002, get here quickly! I also need to watch SWEp2! And the sequel to X-Men, and so many other great ones :) )
Whatever Happened to Mason Reese (1990)
Pretty dang funny... good music
I thought this was a great little short film. It was included on the Rush Hour DVD as an example of director Brett Ratner's work. Steven Spielberg paid him $1500 for it! Sure, he even admits that it's bad, and it is, but it's cute. Anthony Michael Hall as the voice of Mason Reese was a great decision; I'm sure Mason of the 1990s has a grown up voice and it just wouldn't be the same if he had used his own. I think the best song in the whole flick is Randy Newman's "Short People," which although derogatory (hey, I'm 5'10 but I know some short people myself) pretty much sums it up for short people, except the telling of lies :)
In summary, a good piece to put on the Rush Hour DVD, which is a GREAT movie in its own right.
American History X (1998)
A must see for racists and prejudiced people everywhere
I was really moved by this picture. I had gotten so attached to the characters by the end, you can guess what happened to me at the climax of the movie (TRYING not to insert any spoilers :) ) But really, I know a few people who hate blacks (there's this one girl in Texas, but I won't go into details as to why SHE is a racist) and they NEED to see this movie. They won't like it, but they will be changed by it. The only scene that proved offensive to me was the (OK, so I couldn't avoid a LITTLE spoiler) "Derek was anally raped" scene. But they did handle it very well, the way he walked the next day gave the impression that he had been violated in that way. That one scene is the visualization of all straight men's nightmares about prison, btw.
Anyway, as my summary puts it, racists must see this movie, and though they might not like it, they will be changed. I myself am not a racist. I mean, I wasn't BEFORE I saw the movie and I know I'm never going over to that side. This movie only reaffirms that belief. I love it as a movie as well; to see Edward Furlong (I own T2 btw) is a real treat, and I was surprised to see Jennifer Lien of Star Trek Voyager fame. All in all, a great movie and again, a must-see for racists.
