Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) has joined the cast of He Sees You When You’re Sleeping, a Christmas slasher slated to be released this holiday season by The Horror Collective.
A young man’s Christmas homecoming turns into a nightmare as a killer in a Santa suit gruesomely picks off his estranged, wealthy family for their fortune.
Williams is joined by Nicholas Vince, mostly known for his role in Hellraiser as well as David Lenik (An English Haunting), Peyton Michelle Edwards (Goodbye Honey) alongside horror veterans Lauren Marie-Taylor (Friday the 13th Part 2).
He Sees You When You’re Sleeping comes from director Charlie Steeds, who produced with Tom Malloy under his Trick Candle Productions banner. Malloy, who also plays a role in the movie, has produced horror films such as #Screamers, The Attic, and The Alphabet Killer. Executive Produced by Shaked Berenson, who is known for instant cult films such as Slaxx,...

The horror genre has no shortage of films about haunted or possessed items. And I'm not just talking about the usual haunted house or haunted doll fare, either. Films like "Slaxx" boast haunted, killer pants, there's the possessed sofa of "Killer Sofa," and no one could forget "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats." Blumhouse's newest horror flick, "Night Swim," asks the audience to take a dip into a new haunted object: a backyard swimming pool. Based on his short film of the same name, Bryce McGuire's directorial feature debut centers on the Waller family, after former pro-baseball player Ray (Wyatt Russell) and his wife Eve (Kerry Condon) move their family to Minnesota as Ray learns to adjust to life following a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. With hydrotherapy highly encouraged, the Waller family buys a house with a swimming pool -- one that, unbeknownst to them, has a deep, dark history.

Antenna provides some of the best market research in the streaming and TV industry. The firm has been hard at work in September, releasing its new “State of Subscriptions” report with an emphasis on specialized streaming platforms that target smaller audiences such as AMC+, BET+, Britbox, and others.

The data shows that primarily, users access these streamers through third-party platforms like Prime Video Channels. Antenna’s numbers demonstrate that 66% of all subscriptions to these streaming services have come through Prime Video Channels alone in 2023, and only 8% of customers go to the streamer directly to sign up. For comparison, only 9% of premium subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) subscriptions like Paramount+ have come through Prime Video Channels this year.

Last Chance: Save Up to 21% for Full Year of Shudder Before Price Increase Goes Into Effect Tomorrow
Just like the movies on the Shudder streaming service, this is one scary piece of news movie fans shouldn’t close their eyes to. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, the horror movie streamer is increasing its monthly prices from $5.99 per month to $6.99 and its annual membership from $56.99 to $71.88. When the platform’s parent company AMC Networks announced the price increase in July, it confirmed that existing subscribers would see the price increase on their first bill following Monday, Aug. 28. That means that if you want to lock in the lower prices, today is your last chance to do that.

Dear readers, before I can move forward with my review of We Are Zombies, it’s only right that I inform you that I will be very biased in my assessment of this movie. First off, I’m a big fan of the works from filmmaking trio Rkss, and their debut feature Turbo Kid is one of my all-time favorites. Secondly, I went to college with some of the cast (though I won’t reveal who) and have seen them grow from background to principal characters. Finally, the film was shot around my home city of Montreal and I can pinpoint exactly where many scenes took place.
But I am not alone in my love for both Rkss and We Are Zombies. Its world premiere was chosen to be the closing film for this year’s Fantasia Film Festival. Before it even screened to a sold-out room, there was a...

This isn’t the kind of horror that Shudder fans signed up for! The AMC-owned streaming platform is scaring up a price increase for both new and existing subscribers. Starting Aug. 29, 2023, Shudder will increase its base subscription cost from $5.99 per month to $6.99.
The cost of an annual Shudder plan is also rising, going from $56.99 per year to $71.88. If you want to sign up for Shudder for a whole year at the lower price point, you have until Aug. 29 to sign up and secure your lower rate for 12 whole months. Existing Shudder users will see the changes reflected in their next bill after Aug. 28.

Sehar Bhojani has devoted lots of time and attention to establishing herself in the entertainment industry. Although the journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing, she has managed to achieve a great deal of success. She started getting an increased amount of attention in 2020 for her role in the horror film Slaxx. The movie was about a possessed pair of jeans and although the concept was a little wacky, lots of people loved it. Unfortunately, Sehar doesn’t have any new on-screen projects coming down the pipeline, but there are lots of people out there who are looking forward to seeing

If you didn't have a chance to catch Slaxx when it originally premiered on Shudder, now is the perfect time to watch it, as it's available today on VOD, digital, and DVD! This intentionally outrageous concept might be the first thing that draws you into the film, but it's packed with great performances, some excellent social commentary, and it's a lot of fun as well. I recently had a chance to catch up with director Elza Kephart, who talked all about the making of this movie:
What can you tell our readers about the origins of Slaxx?
It started as a joke! In 2001 was on a road trip from Gainesville, Florida, to New Orleans, with Patricia Gomez Zlatar (co-writer and producer of Slaxx), and another friend. Because it was such a long road trip, we started to go a bit bonkers. To pass the time we would tease each other...

WaZabi Films, the Montreal-based sales agent launched by Anick Poirier and Lorne Price, has boarded horror comedy “Red Wings,” one of buzziest and most singular titles at early August’s Frontières Co-Production Market.
Created by executive producer Rhiannon Aarons, a publisher/co-editor on Bob Flanagan’s book “The Book of Medicine,” and Dana Hammer, author of novels such as “Rosemary’s Baby Daddy” and “Dead Viking Rehab,” “Red Wings” turns on Audrina, who gets bitten by a bat and gains an unnatural gift: Killer red bats that fly out of her vagina when she menstruates.
Learning to accept and master her superpower, she gains control of her life and fights evil in the process. Audrina starts the film being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. She now embraces her new bat-friends and sets out for retribution.
Kate Kroll will direct “Red Wings,” which is produced by Anne-Marie Gélinas at EMAfilms.

You Fit Me Better Than My Favorite Sweater: Kephart Gets Hemmed in by Killer Jeans
Who doesn’t like a pair of perfectly fitted blue jeans? Montreal based director Elza Kephart commits a crime of fashion in her third feature Slaxx, a department store thriller about killer jeans which tends to feel a bit washed out in its statements about capitalism, false advertising, cultural appropriations and industrialized privilege.
Still, there’s some fun to be had, especially with the special effects, the zaniness of which begs for more exaggerated tones than Kephart sticks to, especially in a third act stride which limps to an inevitable finish line.…...

Back in 2010 writer/director Quentin Dupieux brought forth Rubber on an unsuspecting genre audience. That film, about a tyre that killed people – not by running them over but by using telekinesis… I mention Rubber as it seems that film now has a cinematic sibling in Slaxx. A film about another homicidal inanimate object… a killer pair of jeans. Literally.
At Canadian Cotton Clothiers the flagship store staff is preparing for ‘Monday Madness’. For joining the range of supposedly organic, Gmo-free, fair-trade, ethically sourced tops and bottoms is the eagerly awaited new line of Super Shaper designer jeans – thermally activated denim that adapts to any body size.

"Are you afraid there's a killer... out there?" Shudder has unveiled a super bloody trailer for the Canadian horror comedy film titled Slaxx, about a possessed pair of jeans. This premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival, and we featured a promo trailer back then. "From the producers of Turbo Kid comes a new type of killer, a pair of jeans, in this raucous horror-comedy." When a possessed pair of jeans begins to kill the staff of a trendy clothing store, it is up to Libby, an idealistic young salesclerk and a hew hire, to stop its bloody rampage. Starring Romane Denis, Brett Donahue, Sehar Bhojani, Kenny Wong, Tianna Nori, and Hanneke Talbot. I was already looking forward to this last year with the first trailer, now I'm double sold! I'll take two pairs, please! This is an extra bloody, gory trailer so don't watch it with any kids around,...

Literally.

Our friends at the Celluloid Screams Horror Film Festival in Sheffield, UK, are preparing for their annual weekend of horror delights. Familiar titles in the lineup include Psycho Goreman, Jill Gervargizian's The Stylist, which will premiere in a couple weeks, Natalie Erika James' Relic, Elza Kephart's Canadian horror flick Slaxx, and Korean zombie flick Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula. Despite the circumstances our friends at Celluloid Screams are doing their very best to provide a weekend of distraction...

When you watch a film about a murderous pair of jeans you don’t expect to be impressed by the structure or the acting. You don’t expect complex characters and you certainly don’t expect political comment. Elza Kephart’s Slaxx has all of these and more, making it a real treat for fans at this year’s Fantasia. Chatting to Elza in the run-up to the festival, I asked her which came first – the killer jeans or the critique of the fashion industry.
“It was actually the idea of killer jeans,” she says definitively. “It was a totally different first draft. It was just a silly high school slasher, and then over the years as I grew more and more aware of the grotesque nature of fast fashion – and my co-writer, Patricia Gomez, worked at the Gap, so...

Exclusive: Producer Shaked Berenson has teamed with former Dread Central Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Barkan to launch the new genre distribution label The Horror Collective. The banner will be under Berenson’s production/distribution outfit Entertainment Squad and Barkan will head the venture which plans to release 10-12 films per year.
Like the name of the distribution label suggests, The Horror Collective is building itself to become a destination that fosters independent horror filmmakers and connect their films to fans. It will also finance and produce original content. The outfit’s inaugural film will be Elza Kephart’s Slaxx, which was the first project financed Entertainment Squad and will be released by The Horror Collective and enter the festival circuit in Q1 2020. Berenson financed and executive produced the Slaxx with long collaborator, Anne-Marie Gélinas of Ema Films.
