In an outcome that seemed inevitable given the state of the world, concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic will cause the long-planned release dates of Mission: Impossible‘s next two big screen outings to self-destruct… temporarily, anyway.
Paramount has delayed the premieres of the untitled sequels, removing each one from their respective summer movie season slots. Mission: Impossible 7, which was originally slated to arrive at theaters on July 23, 2021, has now been shifted to November 19, 2021. Likewise, Mission: Impossible 8, originally set for August 5, 2022 is now scheduled to debut on November 4, 2022.
The untitled Mission: Impossible 7 was on schedule, and was set to begin filming in Venice, Italy, when Paramount halted production in late-February as Covid-19 was just starting to reach pandemic status. Thus, this latest step makes Mission: Impossible the latest in a long and ever-expanding list of big and small screen projects to be hit with the dilatory cudgel of coronavirus concerns.

Paramount has delayed the theatrical releases of “Mission: Impossible 7” and “Mission: Impossible 8,” the next two chapters in Tom Cruise’s action franchise.
The seventh installment, originally due in theaters on July 23, 2021, will now debut four months later on Nov. 19, 2021. The eighth entry was set for Aug. 5, 2022, and will instead hit the big screen on Nov. 4, 2022.
Like nearly all movies currently in production, “Mission: Impossible 7” halted shooting due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cruise had been about to start filming in Venice, Italy — an area hit hard by the virus’ outbreak — when the studio pumped the breaks in late February. With filming indefinitely paused, the latest tentpole in the spy series likely wouldn’t have been completed in time for its original release.
Paramount also announced new release dates for numerous movies, including Chris Pratt’s post-apocalyptic thriller “The Tomorrow World” and animated adventure “Paw Patrol”.

A long list of issues contributed to Fallout 76‘s tepid debut in 2018. While the game suffered from poor balancing, glitchy mechanics, and an incredibly ill-advised microtransaction system at launch, no issue was as glaring as the lack of NPCs with which to interact with, a key element of the Fallout franchise stripped away seemingly to encourage players to make their own fun.
Bethesda’s intention with Fallout 76 seemed to be to breathe new life into the franchise by creating a post-apocalypse populated solely by real-life players. Perhaps the studio hoped that this would connect the game’s community in a new way. But the concept backfired. Instead of making Fallout feel more alive, replacing NPCs with real players made Fallout 76’s Appalachia feel isolating and lifeless. The game was depressing and lonesome to play, and anything good the title had going for it was marred by this issue.

CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer known around the world for creating the popular Witcher series – the same one which served as the inspiration for the Netflix sleeper hit of the same name – recently released their annual sales report, revealing which systems sold the most copies of their last title, 2015’s The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
Long story short, since the game’s release, CD Projekt Red has shipped a total of 12.4 million PC copies, 10.8 million PlayStation 4 copies, 4.3 million Xbox One copies, and around 700.000 Nintendo Switch copies. At first glance, the Switch seems to have performed poorly compared to the other systems. However, considering Nintendo’s newest console came out almost three years after the release of The Witcher 3, the fact that it was able to sell nearly a million copies is quite a feat.

Pom Klementieff has joined the Mission: Impossible film franchise, set to appear in the upcoming seventh and eighth offerings.
Pom Klementieff will temporarily take leave of the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise to accept the mission of tackling a new film franchise, joining Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and company in the upcoming Mission: Impossible movies.
Director Christopher McQuarrie has made the casting of Klementieff official, confirming her presence for not just 2021’s untitled Mission: Impossible 7, but 2022’s (also untitled) follow-up, Mission: Impossible 8. The director dropped the news in a tweet that, while short on specific character details, did provide a potent tease asking, “How do you spell femme fatale?” Afterwards, Klementieff would further tease in her reply, stating, “Mischief: Accepted.”

The Outer Worlds co-directors Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky talk about Fallout, tabletop gaming memories, The Witcher, and more.
In Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds, corporations have colonized and branded the furthest reaches of space. It’s a terrifying look at a dystopian future that may come to pass. For some, though, The Outer Worlds is also about the past. Many fans have waited a long time to play another Obsidian RPG with the same impressive 3D world, bleak humor, and emphasis on freedom of choice as 2010’s beloved Fallout: New Vegas.
Nobody has waited longer for The Outer Worlds, though, than co-directors Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. Over 20 years ago, they were key figures in the development of the original Fallout, one of the most important PC RPGs ever made. Eventually, they split and forged their own paths in the industry. Based on the information posted on that site, the Fallout Legacy Collection will compile Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3: Game fo the Year Edition, Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition, and Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition. That just leaves Fallout 76, Fallout Shelter, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel as the only Fallout games not included in the collection.

Fallout 76 promotional helmets sold via GameStop are being recalled due to a potential health hazard.
This is a story we didn't expect to bring you today, but it sounds like some of the helmets that GameStop sold to promote Fallout 76 are being recalled over potential mold problems.
"Mold can be present on the fabric insert inside the helmet, posing a risk of respiratory or other infections in individuals with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or an allergy to mold," reads a statement on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website. It seems that anyone who purchased this helmet can request a refund via GameStop.
There seems to be some confusion regarding this subject, but it appears that the helmet in question is not the one included in the Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76. Bethesda has clarified that the helmet included with that edition of the game...

It’s over. Helios and Matheson Analytics (Hmny), the parent company of MoviePass, announced today that they’re pulling the plug on the famed monthly movie ticket subscription service which offered unlimited tickets for $9.95 a month.
Hmny today said that it formed a strategic review committee comprised of independent directors, to identify, review and explore all strategic and financial alternatives for the company. Options include a sale of the company in its entirety, a sale of company assets like MoviePass, Moviefone and MoviePass Films. Spider-Man’s neighborhood has been decidedly unfriendly this week. A private and contentious battle over the onscreen future of the beloved Marvel superhero has spilled out into the public square over the past few days. After making nice for two wildly successful films, Sony Pictures, which holds the licensing rights to the Marvel character, will go it alone. As every fanboy and girl out there now knows, it will no longer partner with the Disney-owned Marvel Studios on producing sequels.
Fallout from the creative divorce has revealed a callous truth about Hollywood’s obsession with the bottom line: Studios don’t like to cut big checks, particularly when the recipient is a rival studio.
On Wednesday, Sony confirmed reports that the producing deal between the company and Disney employee and Marvel chief Kevin Feige would end. That leaves the franchise without Feige’s guidance and effectively removes Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After more than a decade apart, CBS and Viacom announced a new merger on Tuesday. A new company called ViacomCBS will emerge as a new corporate umbrella, and underneath it will be heavy-hitter brands like Paramount Pictures, CBS TV, Showtime, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, among others. And in the midst of this deal, it seems the ideas are beginning to flow, and in some cases, formulating into something bigger.
And that appears to be the case with one of Paramount Pictures’ hottest products, Mission: Impossible. Following the success of last year’s trailblazing action film, Fallout, the Imf team will be making its return to the small screen.
As reported by /Film, and confirmed by sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us that Robert Pattinson was locked in for Batman, and that the leads of Ghostbusters 3 would be young teens – a spinoff series is indeed in development,...

Hollywood’s landscape has changed dramatically since Viacom and CBS were last married in 2005. Now that the two media giants seek a Wall Street reunion, there are endless possibilities for the future of its shared content pie.
Huge action franchises like “Mission: Impossible” and “Transformers” from Paramount Pictures could explore new origin stories or exploit quirky side-characters for streaming series on the CBS over-the-top platform All Access. All Access is also currently building out the “Star Trek” TV universe, with three shows under the franchise’s umbrella set to be on the streaming service in 2020. Signs of synergy are already cropping up as well. CBS, which owns the TV licensing rights to “Star Trek,” gave its blessing for a cartoon take on the sci-fi classic at Nickelodeon this year.
Not only would a flurry of development that leverages the well-known intellectual property of Viacom and CBS pacify shareholders in both companies,...

Breaking: Ahead of the CBS-Viacom merger, Viacom has re-upped Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos to a new, multi-year contract.
In addition, Paramount’s current production president Elizabeth Raposo has extended her contract.
Gianopulos has been running the studio since 2017, following the tenure of the late Brad Grey. During Gianopulos’ run Paramount released the hit horror/thriller A Quiet Place, turning into a franchise. That John Krasinksi-directed movie starring Emily Blunt amassed over $340M-plus off a $17M budget. He also saw the Mission: Impossible franchise to its record gross with the release of last summer’s Fallout ($791M-plus worldwide). In addition, Paramount’s Elton John biopic Rocketman is poised to be an awards contender this season following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. That Dexter Fletcher-directed pic has earned more than $186M at the global box office. Annual domestic B.O. grosses between 2017 and...

MoviePass is all but extinct, and a new four-month investigation into the service published by Business Insider (via /Film) reveals some of the alleged unethical practices carried out by the fledgling company. One of the more shocking revelations is that MoviePass manually changed the passwords on accounts it found most active in order to prevent top subscribers from using the service. In an attempt to save money, MoviePass allegedly locked out some of its most active users so they wouldn’t be costing the company as much.
Business Insider also reveals that “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” was specifically targeted by MoviePass in order to help the company save money. News broke in July 2018 that MoviePass was not working for select “Fallout” screenings, prompting the company to blame a “technical issue” it was trying to fix. Former MoviePass employees told Business Insider that the “Fallout” error was not a technical issue but...

When the makers of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas come out with a fresh RPG title, you can bet that we'll want to check out. So, when we heard that Obsidian was previewing The Outer Worlds at a trendy London location, the invite was impossible to refuse. The demo ended up taking place on the hottest UK day in recent memory, but thankfully the venue had some powerful air conditioning to keep us feeling cool.
What we saw on our screen was pretty cool, too. After a brief introduction from the Obsidian team, we sat down with a pre-release build of the game which we were allowed to start from the very beginning. And after watching the opening...

Universal’s “Hobbs & Shaw” is off and running at the box office, taking No. 1 this weekend with an estimated $60.8 million opening from 4,253 screens.
While that’s much lower than the $98 million opening for “The Fate of the Furious,” this spinoff of the “Fast & Furious” series doesn’t necessarily have to reach the numbers of its recent predecessors to find box office success. With its $180 million global opening, “Hobbs & Shaw” is off to a start similar to last year’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” another installment in a long-running action franchise that came out at this time in the release calendar.
Also like “Fallout,” “Hobbs & Shaw” is doing well with audiences with an A- on CinemaScore, though critics were somewhat less enthused with a 67% Rotten Tomatoes score. As with past “Fast & Furious” films, audience turnout was quite diverse, with 47% Caucasian, 27% Hispanic and 20% African American.

Universal is off to a good start with their “Fast & Furious” spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw,” which grossed $23.7 million from 4,253 screens on Friday and is now on course to meet pre-release projections of a $60 million opening weekend.
While that’s a sizable step down from the $94 million opening earned by the last “F&f” movie “The Fate of the Furious,” it is consistent with the latest installment of another action franchise, “Mission: Impossible — Fallout.” Paramount released that Tom Cruise film in a similar late summer release slot last year and opened to $61 million, going on to gross $220 million domestic and $791 million globally against a $180 million production budget.
“Hobbs & Shaw,” which has a reported $200 million production budget, could follow the same trajectory as “Fallout,” but will need help from overseas. They are getting it so far with an estimated $120 million overseas gross this weekend and a No. 1 opening expected in 53 markets. That...

Inquire about the endless hours she must have spent during her formative years wishing she could throw a toaster at someone in the middle of a fight or choke someone out with her thighs — that inspires a heartier baritone chuckle from her. Suggest that Kirby must have grown up filled with a burning...

We spoke with former BioWare programmer Cameron Tofer about the legacy of Baldur's Gate, the game's enhanced editions, and modern RPGs.
This article is part 3 in our History of PC Gaming series.
The reveal of Baldur’s Gate III inspired a couple of popular reactions. To some, it represented the long-awaited comeback of a franchise that is synonymous with the idea of what a role-playing game should be. To others, it forced them to ask aloud with some trepidation “What is Baldur’s Gate?”

Production is about to begin on Porchlight Films’ Fallout (working title) for the ABC, a six-part drama inspired by the 1950s British nuclear testing that took place in outback South Australia. Written and directed by Peter Duncan (Rake), the project has attracted a strong cast including Ewen Leslie, Jessica de Gouw, James Cromwell, Ningali Lawford Wolf and Shaka Cook.
Fallout is set in 1956, at the height of the Cold War, when the Menzies Government has welcomed British atomic bomb testing at remote, ‘uninhabited’ Maralinga, in outback South Australia.

The first Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw will gas up overseas tomorrow, and start U.S./Canada previews on Thursday at 7Pm, but the Dwayne Johnson-Jason Statham vehicle isn’t expected to start off at the top speeds like the last pic in the franchise, Fate of the Furious, which floored it around the world to $541.9M (including China), but cruise along like a spin-off to about $195M WW, possibly more.
Domestic tracking sees Hobbs & Shaw at 4,200 theaters in the $60M-$65M range, while rival distribs believe this action pic could rev to $70M-plus. South East Asian markets are a go tomorrow for the David Leitch-directed feature, with major territories like UK, Brazil, Germany, Japan and Russia debuting through Friday along with the rest of the world save China, France, Italy and Korea which come later. We talked to The Outer World's narrative designer about the game's morality and how Obsidian crafts such a large story.
Obsidian's The Outer Worlds is one of our most highly anticipated releases of the year and for good reason: this space-faring adventure recalls classic RPG titles such as the studio's Fallout: New Vegas, one of the best RPGs ever made. In fact, the developer has an excellent track record of great RPGs, including more recent titles like Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny. Every new Obsidian project, especially one conceived and directed by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, creators of the Fallout series back in their Interplay days.
"They sort of took this very Brazil corporate dystopian model and injected Tim's silly Futurama/Simpsons humor to it, which is a similar special sauce they found success with in Fallout games," Dan McPhee, The Outer Worlds narrative designer,...

That reveal includes more information about what the game has to say about the rise of corporations and the future their bid for power may result in.

The Outer Worlds is an RPG, but it will still feature a lively shooter combat system.
New information reveals that Obsidian's The Outer Worlds will feature a very active combat system that won't interfere with the game's RPG mechanics.

"I want them to come away thinking that combat was exciting, it was fun when it happened, it was a little scary—you could always die, there's always a chance you could die—but that if you basically thought about it and were tactical, you could get through pretty much any encounter."

"I want them to come away thinking that combat was exciting, it was fun when it happened, it was a little scary—you could always die, there's always a chance you could die—but that if you basically thought about it and were tactical, you could get through pretty much any encounter."
Outer Worlds lead designer Charles Staples added that the game is "an RPG first" but it also...

Anyone trying to do justice to the jaw-dropping scenery of Western Norway could do worse than Preikestolen, the iconic rock face that soars high above the Lysefjord gorge. Known as Pulpit Rock, the dramatic formation is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. It’s also known to movie buffs as the setting for the pulse-pounding climax of “Mission: Impossible — Fallout,” when Tom Cruise scales a cliff that rises nearly 2,000 feet above terra firma.
Though the final scene in “Fallout” was ostensibly set in Kashmir, the rugged, forbidding, mountainous region that borders India, Pakistan and China, the producers found a more film-friendly twin in Western Norway, a region of striking natural beauty serviced by top-notch film infrastructure.
Putting together such a high-stakes shoot required the skill set of the region’s world-class crews, says Per Henry Borch of Truenorth Norway, who worked as the local line producer on the film.

After the massive critical and commercial success of Mission: Impossible – Fallout last year, Paramount has officially set release release dates for the next two installments in the long-running franchise. Fallout ended up grossing $791 million at the international box office, making it the most successful film in the franchise by a long shot, so this isn’t surprising. Although we recently learned that Christopher McQuarrie would return to write and direct both Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, the specific release dates for each film were still unclear. Now, the franchise has accepted it’s two new missions in both 2021 and 2022.
Paramount has set Mission: Impossible 7 for July 23, 2021, which comes only a few weeks after Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones 5 is due to be released. Considering that Fallout came out around the same time as the now-inevitable sequel, this date makes sense. Similarly, Mission: Impossible 8, will hit theaters on...

Paramount has set release dates for the seventh and eighth installments of the “Mission: Impossible” series. The still-untitled “Mission: Impossible” 7 will hit theaters July 23, 2021, with part 8 coming just over a year later, on Aug. 5, 2022.
The news comes just two weeks after the announcement that Christopher McQuarrie will return to write and direct the next two films in the Tom Cruise-starring action series. McQuarrie wrote and directed 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and last year’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” which, globally earned $682 million and nearly $800 million, respectively.
