After years of working as a lower-card comedy act as a member of 3Mb, it appears as if Heath Slater is getting a push– to mid-card comedy act.
Following the release of 3Mb teammates Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre, Slater seemed to be left without a direction and was getting the majority of his WWE screen time as a part of the “Jbl & Cole Show” on Youtube.
At WWE Battleground, Slater participated in the Intercontinental Title battle royal, where he shocked fans by eliminating Cesaro, who was a favorite by many to actually win the match. Slater’s good fortunes continued when he was paired with former Prime Time Player Titus O’Neil in a tag team in which Slater called “Slater Gator,” referring to O’Neil’s Florida ties.

At Sunday’s WWE Battleground PPV there was a somewhat controversial promo that Lana did before Rusev’s match with Jack Swagger where she mentioned “current events” that upset people. It was clearly a reference to the Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 that saw 298 people die after a missile attack by the Ukraine/Russia border. We reported on the story multiple times and several major news outlets around the world like the Daily Mail and Washington Post reported on it. Some people were outraged by it. Others just realized it was part of a wrestling storyline.
On Monday afternoon WWE felt like they should say something about it, so they released this statement: “Last night’s segment during WWE’s Battleground event was in no way referring to the Malaysia Airlines tragedy. The storyline with characters Rusev and Lana has been a part of WWE programming for more than 3 months.

After receiving huge criticism from the media, particularly here in the UK, WWE have responded with a statement regarding Lana’s controversial promo at last night’s WWE Battleground PPV.
Issued on WWE.com, the statement reads;
“Last night’s segment during WWE’s Battleground event was in no way referring to the Malaysia Airlines tragedy. The storyline with characters Rusev and Lana has been a part of WWE programming for more than 3 months. WWE apologizes to anyone who misunderstood last night’s segment and was offended.”
Whether the media has blown the whole saga out of proportions is up for debate, but regardless, it is probably fair to say that it was at least insensitive of the company to have Lana cut a promo before Rusev’s match against Jack Swagger last night. Given the recent tragedy of the Malaysian Airlines plane that was shot down last week,...

WWE Battleground is in the record books and an advertised element was missing. The Intercontinental Championship battle royal was supposed to feature 20 men but instead ended up having only 19.
Ithe weeks leading up to the pay per view or special event (depending on where you live) Rob Van Dam was mentioned several times to be a part of the match. Some fans may have even bet on him to win, but he did not appear, nor was his absence explained or even mentioned anywhere during the telecast.
The only official acknowledgement of this discrepancy exists in the write up of the match on the WWE website in the very last line; “Although scheduled to be in the bout, Rvd did not compete due to injury. Stay with WWE.com for more on Rvd’s condition.”

John Cena managed to reclaim his world heavyweight title at the WWE Battleground event on Sunday, July 20.
John Cena Wins At WWE Battleground
Cena, 37, went up against Randy Roton, Kane and Roman Reigns at the Battleground in Tampa, Fla. The Fatal 4-Way match saw Cena go head-to-head against Orton and then escape defeat when Kane joined the brawl. Cena ultimately sealed his victory in the competition when he pinned Kane.
With the Battleground win, Cena holds onto his title of the world’s WWE Heavyweight Champion. He’s now increased his impressive reign record to 12. Following his win, Cena took to Twitter to post about the importance of never giving up.
There are moments in life where it gets so hectic that time becomes a blur. Keep calm, and never give up.

WWE Battleground is tonight, and this past week, every wrestler on WWE’s roster was gearing up for the pay-per-view. We also got the blockbuster announcement that former WCW and Tna star Sting will be featured in WWE 2K15. We also got hints that we might be seeing more of Sting than in game form.
But this week’s list isn’t just about Sting. There’s some old familiars are here, like the Jbl and Cole Show or Triple H’s sit down interview with Michael Cole, but there’s plenty you might have missed from this week that’s new and unique as well. Read on to see the best things you didn’t see this week.

WWE Battleground is smack in the middle of Money in the Bank and SummerSlam — right between two of the biggest shows of the year. Because of that, this will be a throwaway event with little change or much excitement. Storylines will be built here and a clearer picture of SummerSlam will be made by the end of the night. Here are predictions of what should be happening at this less-than-stellar, but purposeful WWE event.
Pre-Show Match Cameron vs. Naomi
Naomi proved to me that she can have a great divas match at Money in the Bank 2014 and I look forward to seeing more of her. This is a grudge that I suppose we’re supposed to care about because of the history of these two as Funkadactyls, but I mainly just want to see Naomi win and move on to bigger things. Plus, I’m sure Jimmy Uso has taught...

WWE Battleground is nearly upon us and for fans all over the world, there is definitely reason to be excited for this event. The reason for that is because from top to bottom, the card is stacked with talent and features the hottest storylines that WWE has presented in quite some time.
Chief among those storylines is the ascension of Roman Reigns. The former Shield strongman is well on his way to becoming a very big deal in Vince McMahon’s company and in the minds of many fans, he is the heir apparent to John Cena.
John Cena is defending his WWE World Championship against not only Roman but Kane and Randy Orton as well. There is heat between all four men and this main event promises to be huge for those awaiting Roman’s rise as well as those just anticipating a great match.

WWE Battleground takes place this Sunday July 20th from Tampa, Florida. The biggest stories going in are the threats to John Cena’s WWE Championship and the feud between Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho. Supporting these main events you have a battle royal to crown a new Intercontinental champion and the bitter feud between friends turned foes Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins.
The rest of the card if fairly decent too. The Usos battle Harper and Rowan again, which last time around at Mitb was a stellar matchup. Another contest that will be worth watching is Rusev’s feud with Jack Swagger, which has gained a lot of fan momentum these last few weeks. You also have Aj Lee in her first title defence against the former Divas champion Paige.
On paper, that’s a pretty good card. Critically it should prove a compelling night, there’s some...

WWE’s Battleground pay-per-view is coming up on Sunday, July 20 and thus far the card is arguably the best that fans have seen since WrestleMania 30.
There are four championship matches set, with one of those being a battle royal for the vacant Intercontinental title. The Divas championship will be represented when Aj Lee defends against Paige. The tag team championships will be on the line when The Usos take on The Wyatt Family and then of course there is the big one, the main event.
That main event will see the WWE World champion John Cena step into the ring with Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns. The belt will be up for grabs in this one and any of the four men involved could potentially walk away with the gold. Therein lies the beauty of this event and the company itself; the old tagline is truer now than ever before.

Last year’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view is widely regarded among fans as one of if not the worst event of 2013. From a mediocre match from Cm Punk and Ryback to a WWE Championship main event ending in a no contest, it was a pretty atrocious event that it is better off unremembered. The only memorable match from Battleground was Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns with the Rhodes brothers’ jobs on the line, the single saving grace of that show.
By some miracle, Battleground managed to get renewed for a second installment this year, airing on the WWE Network this Sunday, July 20. This time around, the card appears to be much better on paper and has potential to be excellent. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins, the WWE Tag Team Championship match and even Aj Lee vs. Paige are all matches highly anticipated by fans and should be stellar.

Brock Lesnar will return on Raw next Monday, Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports.
Current WWE plans (which obviously could change) are for Lesnar to make his comeback on the show emanating from Miami, Florida, just a day after the WWE Battleground pay per view. The episode is expected to set in motion Lesnar’s SummerSlam feud with John Cena.
In a small coincidence, the Miami venue is the same location that Lesnar made his original return back in 2012, in a famous angle where he destroyed Cena. We might see something very similar this Monday – same guys, same location, same angle.
Lesnar’s feud with Cena will be the centrepiece of WWE television over the next two months. The pair will headline SummerSlam in Los Angeles, with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship expected to be on the line. Following August we have Night Of Champions in September, which WWE will...

WWE Battleground is coming up on Sunday, July 20. The event is shaping up to be a good one as thus far there are six matches booked and four of them are championship contests.

The Intercontinental title is up for grabs in a battle royal and WWE World champion John Cena will face Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns in the main event.
There are potentially many memorable moments just waiting to happen on that night.
Of course Battleground is the follow-up to Money in the Bank, which was considered by many fans to be a success from start to finish. So Battleground has a lot to live up to but judging by the card it appears as though it could be a very entertaining event.

WWE used Monday Night Raw this week to advertise a Cm Punk documentary on the WWE Network. Michael Cole emphasised the special hasn’t been seen on TV before; although in actual fact it’s the ‘Best In The World’ documentary released on DVD back in 2012.
It was interesting to see WWE featuring Punk in this way. Having barely been referenced since his January exit, WWE are suddenly spotlighting the performer on Raw and the Network. The commentary team and the video package on Raw were very positive and complimentary. This is just a week after they screened the overwhelmingly positive Cm Punk WrestleMania Rewind on the Network. With Punk’s contract set to expire this week, it seems that all of a sudden WWE are putting attention back on the star, portraying him in a positive light.

Following Monday’s edition of Raw there were only three matches that were official for WWE’s Battleground pay-per-view on July 20 in Tampa. After last night’s Smackdown and Main Event tapings we can add four matches to the official lineup to make it seven.
Here’s what we knew officially after Raw.
WWE World Heavyweight Title Fatal 4-Way: John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane. That’s the clear main event. Nothing else on this card is really close to it in terms of its stature.
WWE Intercontinental Title Battle Royal: Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Rob Van Dam, Big E, Alberto Del Rio, Fandango, Sheamus, Cesaro, Damien Sandow, The Great Khali, Ryback, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas. There are 13 names. The key addition is Sheamus, who is already the Us Champion. He could add the Ic Title to the Us Title he already has.

The next WWE pay-per-view is called Battleground and it takes place on July 20 in Tampa, Florida. Even though there is only one more week of Raw before the show, WWE has only announced three matches for the event. Two of them were known last week and one was added on Raw.
The new match added to the show was Jack Swagger (with Zeb Colter) taking on Rusev (with Lana). During Raw, Rusev was in a match and Colter appeared doing a taped promo that aired during the Rusev. That kind of promo doesn’t happen too often. The story has been built up for weeks now, so it makes sense that they’ll have the “Real American” taking on the evil “Russian” at Battleground.

One big criticism of the WWE writing team is that aside from the main storyline, they do not book long-term for their Pay Per Views. The shows are then littered with thrown-together matches with little-to-no backstory. No show was this more evident than last year’s Battleground, which had last-minute advertised matches like Santino Marella and Great Khali against The Real Americans, Curtis Axel against R-Truth, and Bray Wyatt against Kofi Kingston. It was one of the worst Pay Per Views of the year in 2013.
With only three weeks between Money in the Bank and this year’s Battleground, WWE could have gone a similar route by only booking three or four major matches and throwing together random matches to fill up the rest of the card. Instead, in one night, on a fantastic Raw from Hartford, Connecticut, the WWE writing team set the stage for an entire card for the next show.

The Intercontinental Title is up for grabs following the bad news that Bad News Barrett will need shoulder injury after he was thrown into the barricade by Jack Swagger last week on Smackdown. Because of that, WWE announced on Raw that the Ic Title would be vacated. To determine the new winner, there will be a Battle Royal at Battleground probably because WWE thinks it sounds good.
There have been several Battle Royals in the past few months. At WrestleMania there was the Battle Royal for the Andre The Giant Memorial Trophy that was won by Cesaro. It was announced in the first segment of Raw that John Cena will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns at WWE’s Battleground pay-per-view from Tampa on July 20th. It’s a Fatal Four Way match, which means the man that gets the first pinfall or submission will be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
While the Fatal Four Way match hasn’t been done as a PPV main event in a while, it’s the second PPV in a row with more than two people in a major title match. When you keep doing it all the time the novelty wears off a bit.
The main event on Raw saw Cena team up with Reigns against Kane and Orton. The match ended in a Dq after Kane attacked Cena with the steel steps. Reigns ended up brawling with Orton. When Reigns returned,...

When The Shield broke up earlier this month after Seth Rollins aligned himself with Triple H and Randy Orton, there were questions about when he would face off against former partners Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns in singles matches. It hasn’t happened on TV or PPV yet, but it is planned to take place at the July 20 Battleground PPV according to the Wrestling Observer.
Immediately after the Rollins turn on the June 2nd edition of Raw, there were rumors that they would have a singles match at Money in the Bank this coming Sunday. That didn’t happen because both guys are a part of the Money in the Bank contract ladder match. Both of them have to be considered favorites for it especially since Bad News Barrett is most likely going to be out due to the shoulder injury he suffered on Tuesday.

When The Shield faced off with the Wyatt Family and now with Evolution, WWE fans got excited because those groups are all very good at what they do. All of them are booked strong on a consistent basis. Fans were chanting “this is awesome” as these teams were standing on the opposite sides of the ring. A lot of that excitement led to those same fans thinking that WWE might bring back an old Nwa/WCW staple called War Games. It hasn’t happened yet and there’s still uncertainty about whether it will happen.
A new report suggests that while there are no concrete plans for a War Games match right now, the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa that is hosting WWE Battleground on July 20 is big enough for a War Games setup. A name like Battleground is certainly fitting for match like War Games isn’t it?...

Battleground 2013 is set to be released on the 6th of January 2014 on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK.
WWE fans will be able to pick the DVD up at a price of £17.99, or for even more extra features you can pick up the Blu Ray at £19.99. My first comment in this review will be to recommend the Blu Ray – the picture quality really is perfect for enjoying WWE matches. In addition to this, the Blu Ray also boasts an excellent match between Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler from the October 4th Smackdown.
I will review this release over the next few pages, looking at individual points why you should add this release to your wrestling library. The event itself was a controversial night. The main event finish was a disappointing “none finish” that overshadowed what was a decent undercard. Many fans were left fuming – but on revisiting the...

World Heavyweight Championship Hardcore Match
Alberto Del Rio defends his World title here against the challenger, Rob Van Dam under hardcore rules. Ricardo is in Rvd’s corner for the match. The fans are into the match early on with a number of signature moves from Van Dam, including a Ddt onto a chair, a moonsault from the ringside barrier and the introduction of a ladder which gets a loud reaction. Del Rio hits a good looking back stabber and a high kick to the back of Van Dam’s head.
