Another successful studio purchase for a fantastic sci-fi short film we featured earlier this year. In late April we posted the short film Abe from British filmmaker Rob McLellan, telling the story of a malicious but seemingly well-intentioned robot serial killer. Now, four months later, Deadline is reporting that McLellan has sold the rights to a feature version of the story to MGM, who will develop the project with Kevin Misher (Public Enemies, Carrie) and Steve Tzirlin (working on Ruin & R'ha) producing. The feature version of Abe will likely tell the complete story of Abe and how he came to work for the family he talks about in the short. Rob McLellan is a visual effects artist making the leap into filmmaking by writing/directing Abe. McLellan also has another spec script called Strings about time-traveling thieves that is being pitched, likely along with this. No other info was provided...

Star Wars producer Rick McCallum has signed on for R'Ha.
The former Lucasfilm head will work with director Kaleb Lechowski to adapt the latter's sci-fi short into a full-length movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Star Wars: Clone Wars producer Steve Tzirlin will join McCallum, with Matthew Graham - who worked on the BBC's Life on Mars as well as an aborted Star Wars live action TV show - signing up to write the screenplay.
R'Ha centres around the titular alien race, who protect their solar system from an invasion.
"What inspires me and our team is that there are no humans whatsoever in the film, and yet Kaleb has come up with a world that is so engaging and so alive and so real that it really is very different from anything else I have seen in the sci-fi world," said McCallum.
"We want to make it as a European film,...

A few months ago, we posted an awesome sci-fi short film, called R'ha. Well, Star Wars producer Rick McCallum is going to develop the project as a feature film. It will be his first sci-fi film project since working with George Lucas. Star Wars: Clone Wars producer Steve Tzirlin will produce the film with him.
I loved the short, and it should make for a great movie. The story follows a nonhuman alien from a race called the R’Ha, who defend a cluster of solar systems from a menacing attack.
The director of the short, Kaleb Lechowski, will also direct the film from a script written by Matthew Graham, who worked on the series Life on Mars, as well as the live-action Star Wars that will never happen. McCullum revealed in a statement what attracted him to the project saying,

"Star Wars" franchise producer Rick McCallum and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" producer Steve Tzirlin are teaming for the new project "R'Ha".
The high-concept feature will be an expansion of the recent short film by Kaleb Lechowski who is attached to direct this version.
The story follows an alien species trying to defend a cluster of solar systems from a menacing attack. There are no humans whatsoever in the film.
The original UK "Life on Mars" creator Matthew Graham is attached to pen the screenplay. Iam Entertainment's Raymond Brothers and Scott Glassgold will also produce.
The aim is to make it as a European film, using VFX facilities from all over Central and Eastern Europe and Asia to do a large scale film on a reasonable budget.
