Here's a wonderful animated short film called Cadaver, which follows a cadaver who "wakes up to say a last goodbye to his wife but discovers a truth in death he didn't know in life." He goes on a little road trip with a couple of girls that work in the morgue. The short was directed by Jonah D. Ansell, and has a great voice cast that includes Christopher Lloyd, Tavi Gevinson, and Kathy Bates. I really enjoyed watching this film, and I hope you do too!

Tavi Gevinson isn't just a style icon and a wise-beyond-her-years feminist; she can sing and act, too. The young multitasker stars in the 2-D animated short "Cadaver," alongside Christopher Lloyd and Kathy Bates. After months of waiting, we're thrilled to present the premiere of the highly anticipated film.
"Cadaver" tells the story of a dead older man who comes back to life to bid his wife a final farewell. According to director and writer Jonah Ansell, the film "began as a short, whimsical poem that I wrote to my kid sister the day she cut open her first dead body as a med student at Chicago’s Northwestern University." Gevinson scored the role of the med student because, as she told The Huffington Post, "We're like real-life friends because our families go to the same temple and have had like, Rosh Hashana together."

With Dread Central headquarters being located in San Diego, we're happy to be able to report on a local event that isn't Comic-Con! The 2012 San Diego Film Festival kicks off soon and will include "The Horror Fest at Gaslamp," an exciting addition to this year’s fest.
The 2012 San Diego Film Festival begins this Wednesday, September 26th, and runs through Sunday, September 30th. The highlight of The Horror Fest at Gaslamp is Martin McDonagh’s highly anticipated Seven Psychopaths (review here), starring Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, and Sam Rockwell: A struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.
Jonah D. Ansell's Cadaver animated short film looks to be another one not to miss: A macabre nursery rhyme (most definitely not for kids!) starring Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd, sixteen-year-old fashion icon Tavi Gevinson,...

San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

Once-in-a-lifetime experiences abounded at this year’s Sonoma International Film Festival, a boutique event in the heart of northern California’s wine country – complete with complementary wine and cheese before every screening (and a trailer featuring an animated, tap-dancing wine bottle named Tipsy whose tagline read, “Is everything out of focus, or is it just me?”). Held early April, a week apart and an hour’s drive – yet a world away – from that longest running festival in the U.S., Siff serves as a worthy reminder that attending non-market-driven fests not only allows one the opportunity to discover overlooked diamonds amongst the seemingly rough cuts, but to enjoy chance encounters that have been programmed out of the older and slicker fests. While the films themselves might not have the cachet associated with the big boy on the Bay (save perhaps for the opening and closing night bookended Luc Besson flicks,...

Wunderkind Tavi Gevinson started a style blog when she was only 13. Through her electric granny-chic aesthetic and insightful voice on feminism and growing up, women well into their 30's were looking to her for fashion and life advice before she even started high school. She took two often conflicting arenas, fashion and feminism, and showed the world how they could be Bff's.
As if that wasn't enough, these days Tavi is hard at work curating Rookie Magazine, a teenage melting pot for real-talk, arts-n-crafts and of course pretty things. Not content to be idle, the teenage blogger is moving from the computer screen to the silver screen, acting alongside Christopher Lloyd and Kathy Bates in 2-D animated film and moving picture book "Cadaver," defined on the website as a "cinematic poem." But, wait, there's more! Tavi sings Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold' for the film, for which she reportedly...

At the age of 15, Oak Park, Ill. native fashionista-blogger Tavi Gevinson has already achieved a resume that puts many who are twice her age -- or more -- to shame.
And with the unveiling of her latest endeavor, Rookie, Gevinson can add two more bullet points to her fast-growing portfolio: Recording artist and voiceover actress.
This week, a trailer previewing a new animated short film titled "Cadaver" debuted, featuring Gevinson singing a cover of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold." The seven-minute film, written and directed by Jonah D. Ansell, also features Christopher Lloyd as the voice of an elderly cadaver who awakes to say goodbye to his wife, voiced by Kathy Bates.

Neil Young has given his blessing for his classic song Heart of Gold to be recorded by Tavi Gevinson and included in Cadaver, an animated short film that Gevinson is starring in alongside Christopher Lloyd and Kathy Bates. Jonah D. Ansell wrote the script and directed the film that debuts at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. It tells the story of an elderly cadaver (Lloyd) who wakes up to say goodbye to his wife, only to discover a truth in death he didn’t know in life. Gevinson is the 15-year old fashion blogger icon who has stepped up to the animated film. Young has only allowed his 1972 song to be rerecorded a few times by the likes of Jimmy Buffett.
