Exclusive: Jennie Snyder Urman, creator/executive producer of the CW drama pilot First Cut, has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio that produces it, CBS TV Studios. Urman has a long relationship with CBS TV Studios. She served as co-executive producer on its CW series 90210. Last season, she wrote and executive produced the studio’s CW pilot Danni Lowinski. This development cycle, she had a two-script deal with the studio. Both projects sold, and one of them, First Cut, went to pilot at the CW. It stars Mamie Gummer as a newly minted doctor who discovers that, sadly and comically, life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Urman executive produces the project with Dan Jinks. UTA-repped Urman’s series credits also include Gilmore Girls and Men In Trees. On the feature side, she wrote the 2011 romantic comedy Something Borrowed.

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

Booth and Brennan recaptured the magic, at least in part, during last week's Bones. But as their romantic journey continues, is another couple's future in peril?
When last the series checked in on Sweets and Daisy, the baby-faced shrink had gone ring shopping only to get cold feet (Booth's own proposal went haywire).
Does John Francis Daley (Sweets) see his character getting down on one knee again? Or will factors beyond his control mean the end of his relationship?
“Sweets was sort of scared into [realizing] that rushing into marriage so quickly might not necessarily be the best idea for a young man such as himself,” Daley told TV Line.
“So I think he’s taking a little bit of time ... You know, playing the field.”
Daley claims that as far as he knows, the state of the Sweets/Daisy romance is “up in the air,” yet he suggests that his...

While Bones‘ Booth and Brennan continue their endless romantic tango, Sweets may want to start thinking about dancing double time before he loses his own lady love, Daisy — and for good.
Matt’s Inside Line: Scoop on Bones, Smallville and More
When last the Fox series checked in on the quirky couple, Sweets had gone ring shopping (for a second time, mind you), only to ultimately flake out. That left his buddy Booth the only one to break away from the jeweler with bling in tow. (And we all know how that turned out.)

CW topper Dawn Ostroff may be shepherding her best development season yet, but the veteran programmer is not expected to stick around to see the 2011-12 launch: Ostroff, whose contract is up in June, reportedly informed both CBS Corp chief Leslie Moonves and Warner Bros., Chairman and CEO Barry Meyer that she will leave sometime this summer to return to New York, where her husband’s job is based.
Ostroff has run CW since 2006, when it became joint venture between Warner Bros., and CBS. She’s been bi-coastal for the last five years.
For now, Ostroff told EW that her...

Richard Shepard, who won an Emmy for directing the pilot of ABC's Ugly Betty, has come on board to direct another hourlong pilot with a female lead, CBS' Ringer starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Ringer, written on spec by Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, centers on a troubled young woman (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister. Shepard's gig on Ringer stems from his overall deal at CBS TV Studios, which produces the pilot. This is Wme-repped Shepard's second pilot this season; he also directed CW's Danni Lowinski. Shepard previously helmed the pilots for CBS' Criminal Minds and its upcoming spinoff Criminal Behavior. Marc Buckland, who won an Emmy for directing the pilot for NBC's My Name Is Earl, is back at NBC as director of the drama pilot Grimm. Created by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, it is...
