Body-snatching aliens attempt to navigate love in the modern world in genre-bending comedy The Becomers, and Dark Star Pictures announced today that they’ve acquired it for release.
In The Becomers: “Dropped to Earth and escaping their dying planet, the two extraterrestrials (played by a sequence of actors) seek each other out —jumping from body to body— on our planet while becoming increasingly drawn into the madness of modern-day America.
Written, directed, and edited by Zach Clark (Little Sister), the film was shot in Chicago and stars Molly Plunk (Little Sister, Profane), Mike Lopez (All Jacked Up and Full of Worms, Crimes Against Humanity), Frank V. Ross (Drinking Buddies), Isabel Alamin, and Keith Kelly, and features the voice Russell Mael, lead singer of the explosive pop-rock band Sparks. Chris Nash’s In a Violent Nature, coming soon to Shudder, plays on a lot of slasher tropes, but the story unfolds in quite an unconventional way.

It’s time for some body-snatching mayhem.
Zach Clark’s “The Becomers,” about confused alien lovers trying to find their place on Earth, and each other, has debuted the first clip and poster ahead of its Fantasia Film Festival premiere.
“I was really inspired and influenced by 1950s B-movies. I have always liked the disreputable pockets of film history. My general approach to the entire movie was to embrace that and embrace kitsch as an access point,” said Clark.
“Older genre films really invite the audience in. Now, it’s all about visual effects and things looking as real as possible. But this more lo-fi effect asks you to play along in a way that modern stuff doesn’t.”
Also joining in on the fun is the film’s surprising narrator, Russell Mael, best known as the lead singer for Sparks: The cult American band celebrated by Edgar Wright...

Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to “The Becomers,” a genre-bending comedy written and directed by Zach Clark. The company will launch the film at the Marche Du Film in Cannes this week. “The Becomer” tells the story of a body-snatching alien who comes to Earth, reconnects with their partner, and tries to find their way in modern America.
“During the pandemic, I binged the original ‘Star Trek’ series for the first time and then I made this movie” Clark said about his latest film. “It felt like life as we knew it was ending, but then again, it also felt like that might not be the worst thing either. ‘The Becomers’ is a story of love, longing, and alienation. A kitsch-soaked, pathos-laden melodrama about our sad, sad planet. It’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever made and I can’t think of anyone better than Yellow Veil...

The psychedelic potency of fictional invertebrates is pure nightmare fuel in Alex Phillips’s feature debut All Jacked Up and Full of Worms. Yet worms alone don’t drive the film’s deviant characters past the brink of sanity. Rather, the creature’s hallucinogenic properties serve as unfortunate conduits for their most depraved intrusive thoughts. There’s no shortage of gross-out bodily functions and overtly taboo images on display here—milky vomit, slimy appendages, an infant sex doll which must have put Phillips or another crew member on some sort of watchlist. Yet somehow, Worms doesn’t feel like just another piece of dirtbag, edgelord cinema. It’s […]

Worms… it’ll get you fucked up!
After having its World Premiere at Fantasia, Alex Phillips’s avant-gutter psychedelic freakout All Jacked Up and Full of Worms is heading to this month’s Fantastic Fest, in Austin, Texas.
It was announced ahead of the premiere that Cinedigm acquired the indie, which will join the Bloody Disgusting-powered horror streaming service Screambox this fall, followed by an exclusive window on Cinedigm’s indie discovery platform Fandor.
While a tripped-out, gross-out trailer has already been shared, we’re excited to reveal what we think is one of the coolest posters of the year for the film described as “a flamboyant, darkly outrageous new vision that mashes together retro grindhouse thrills with the squirmy depths of underground cinema.”

Fantastic Fest will be making its long-awaited return to in-person festival events in Austin this September, and per usual, the lineup is heavy on delightfully bizarre horror films from around the world.
In addition to the impeccable selection of genre fare the festival has come to be known for, the lineup also features several Cannes favorites that are sure to be players throughout the fall festival season. Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winning “Triangle of Sadness” will make its U.S. premiere, closing out the festival. The U.S. premiere of Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to Leave” is also headed to Fantastic Fest, and the director will be in attendance to accept a lifetime achievement award for his mind-bending body of work, which includes films like “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden.”

All Jacked Up And Full Of Worms
With the second half of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune currently in production, there’s a lot of talk about worms in film circles, but Alex Phillips’ Fantasia international Film Festival contribution All Jacked Up And Full Of Worms focus on the creature in its lowliest form, the humble earthworm, and it will make you look at them in a whole new way. Following junkies Roscoe (Phillip Andre Botello) and Benny (Trevor Dawkins) as they become obsessed by a new fad, eating or snorting worms in an attempt to get high, it’s an exploration of psychosis which is dazzling and revolting audiences in equal measure. I met up with Alex at the festival for a chat about it, which was enhanced by an unexpected contribution from the film’s credited ‘worm effects guy’ (and producer) Ben Gojer.
Alex has eaten worms himself, he says.

“Wanna do worms?” It could be the tagline of this crazy Fantasia flick, or it could be the thesis statement of the whole film. You decide. Alex Phillips’ drug-fueled adventure has the look and feel of a crazy midnight movie and an absurdist comedy all rolled into one.
All Jacked Up and Full of Worms is a trippy comedy of misadventure that follows a handful of strange characters as they encounter one another and eventually all get high on worms. Benny (Trevor Dawkins) is a strange, somewhat off putting, yet simultaneously sympathetic man who desperately wants a baby. Eventually, he crosses paths with Roscoe (Phillip Andre Botello), a guy coming out of the latest drug trip with his girlfriend Samantha (Betsey Brown) and their roommate Jarod (Noah Tepawski). Roscoe has left their cramped apartment, in search of some space. A sex worker named Henrietta (Eva Fellows) eventually enters the scenario...

Dasha Nekrasova, Chloe Cherry and Betsey Brown have been cast in “www.RachelOrmont.com,” a sci-fi drama currently in production.
The film, the second feature from writer and director Peter Vack, is described as a “psychedelic technosatire about growing up in captivity.” The project is produced by The Ion Pack in association with Gummy Films, Simone Films and Fast Rainbow Films. Previously, Vack helmed “Assholes” in 2017.
Vack is also known for his work as an actor on shows such as “The Bold Type,” — where he memorably played web editor Patrick, who managed “The Dot Com” of the show’s fictional magazine — “Love Life,” “I Just Want My Pants Back” and “Mozart in the Jungle.”
Nekrasova made her film debut with “Wobble Palace” in 2018, which she co-wrote with director Eugene Kotlyarenko, and also appeared in “The Ghost Who Walks” and “Pvt Chat,” the latter of which also featured Vack. Last year...
