As horror fans, if there's one thing we know all too well, it is that the genre titles we've come to love are often at high risk for going out of print (Oop) at a moment’s notice. With many of our favorite films being released by smaller distributors, a second or third printing of these titles is not always likely. With that in mind, it’s always wise to pick them up upon release. However, with the growing popularity of Video on Demand, if you do miss the DVD release/re-release of a noteworthy title, you may not be forced to pay an outrageous amount of cash to add it to your collection. More and more titles are being made available via the digital platform – even titles that are currently out of print on DVD. As a collector, I always prefer the DVD or Blu-ray version of a film...

This is a story which came out earlier this weekend on an independent production called Pennhurst; it is worth repeating. Michael Rooker (Atlantis Down) will direct his first feature while starring with Beverley Mitchell (Saw II) and Haylie Duff ("Fear Island"). The film has been budgeted at 100K, with Primary Pictures anchoring the project. The film is in the early stages, but a concept poster can be seen left along with an official website below (Bloody Disgusting).
The synopsis for Pennhurst:
"For decades, Pennhurst psychiatric hospital has been haunted by turbulent supernatural forces. When a local TV show embarks on a mission to capture this paranormal activity, they discover something completely unexpected. As restless souls from the past torment the crew members, they fear for their lives as one by one they are gruesomely murdered. In a surprising revelation, they discover something more terrifying than ghosts is responsible.

Lucy Hale stars in the Lifetime Television movie Sorority Wars. Now let's break that down: Lucy Hale is a talented and pretty fast-rising star who, at 20, has already guest starred on every tween-friendly show from Drake & Josh to The O.C. to Wizards of Waverly Place, and been a regular on both Bionic Woman and Privileged. Sorority Wars is a comedy – set to air October 17 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt -- that stars Hale as Katie Snow, a college freshman who starts the titular war when she turns her nose up at her mother's (Courtney Thorne-Smith) old sorority, Delta. A college-themed comedy on Lifetime? Really? Hale, during a breezy interview, explained it all to ScreenStar.com. A lot of people think of Lifetime as the home of serious, mature dramas that makes them bawl. What was your initial reaction when you heard that Sorority Wars was for Lifetime? My initial reaction was "no thanks,...

[Editor's note: Meh, slow news day...]
Fear Island originally made headlines last year when it was announced that it would topline Haylie Duff, that older less famous sister to Hilary. While I point that fact out for context, it's not why you're seeing it here. Deep Cove may not be the most original horror film to date (read: teens, spring break, cabin-in-the-woods, revenge killings etc), it's a nifty indie from Canadian production company, Waterfront, so we want to support them.
Synopsis:
Five students on spring break meet at a secluded island cabin for a weekend getaway. After a night of music, drinking and getting re-acquainted the five friends are shocked to find the cabin's caretaker murdered and the only boat off the island gone. Stranded on the island they become the prey of a mysterious killer who seems bent on revenge for something the friends have done. They must defend themselves and find their tormentor or face death one by one.

Deep Cove or Fear Island? Nobody really knows, but it doesn’t matter because it the same movie.
Starring Hilary Duffs older sister, Hailey Duff, its the “next in line” teen horror movie, releasing just in time to compete with another ’slasher’ genre movie, Sorority Row.
