Sex & Nudity

  • A few very brief, non-sexual shots of a bare breast. Some passionate kissing that leads to a short sex scene. A man tries to get his wife to have sex with him: He kisses her thighs and neck, and she declines. A married man eyes another woman, and then searches for porn on the internet (none is seen).

Violence & Gore

  • Much of the violence is implied.
  • You hear a woman fall down stairs, and then we see a pool of blood under her head--she dies.
  • A woman steps on glass and we see her pulling the glass shard out of her foot (there is blood, but the scene is dimly lit).
  • A father beats his son.
  • We see a dead dog and a dead guinea pig, a man grieves over the dead dog, very disturbing/sad scene (especially with what is implied about why the animals died, please see spoiler above).

Profanity

  • 10-15 "f**ks", some other profanities are said multiple times like "s**t", "hell". Parents swear in front of their child.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Characters smoke and drink occasionally. References to a man "tampering" with his wife's medication.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The entire movie is very suspenseful/creepy/intense--there is a lot of build up in scary scenes. It depicts a family (especially the wife) being psychologically tormented by their children. The son, Joshua, is eerily smart and sadistic (he kills animals and
  • ends up killing his grandmother in a sort-of climactic sequence).
  • The movie isn't a supernatural, "The Omen"-type movie, although it does have a supernatural feel to it.
