Good, but ....
siegerrob7610 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So many people popping up and flashing across the screen, it is hard to tell which of the good ole boys are the baddies, since they all mistrust Crockett and Tubbs. Also, yet another irritating example of Zito and Switek's complete incompetence -- they're in a bathroom together, don't ask -- which lets the witness escape. Tubbs is also to blame for a bizarre lack of judgment in delivering a letter to the sequestered witness, the devastating results of which Tubbs witnesses (but does nothing even afterward) as the witness read the letter.

Since when do sequestered material witnesses receive uncensored mail? (This is pre-Internet, cell phone, social media, remember.) All of this, doubtless, is to create the deus ex machina which fuels the episode but such gross incompetence, especially from Tubbs, is hard to swallow.

Shootout in the Everglades
Tweekums15 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Looking after a witness in a murder trial should be a fairly easy job; after all he came to the police volunteering information. Things go well enough till he gets sent a letter; after reading it he sneaks out of the safe house and heads back to his home deep in the Everglades. The trial will collapse if he isn't back within forty eight hours so Crockett and Tubbs head to the Glades to find him. When they get there the locals don't seem to friendly; a couple offer to help them but leave them beaten and lost deep in the glades. Soon another group find them but they don't seem too friendly at first. It turns out though they are part of the witness's family and he only fled because he learnt that his daughter has been kidnapped and he wanted Crockett and Tubbs' help to rescue her. It won't be easy; the kidnappers are well armed drug dealers who outnumber them two to one.

In some ways this is a bit silly; Crockett, Tubbs and a bunch of good ol' boys take on and defeat a larger force of well armed drug smugglers without taking any casualties... however if you can overlook this unlikelihood it is a lot of fun. The family is an entertaining bunch; especially the elderly Clem who was armed with an ancient alligator gun and was a lot sharper than people thought. The climactic shoot out was pretty exciting and end standoff between Crockett and the kidnapper who had a gun to the little girls head was pretty tense.

Miami Vice:Glades
Scarecrow-8812 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Miami Vice provides Crockett and Tubbs with a change of scenery, heading to the sweaty Everglades to find an informant that got away before his testimony that would put a drug dealer behind bars. Their informant, Bramlette(Keith Szarabajka) fled Miami to his Everglades home because his daughter had been kidnapped by those who work for the Colombian he plans to testify against. So, with the court hearing on the horizon, Crockett and Tubbs will join forces with Bramlette, his family and friends in a major coup de grace, engaging with those in cahoots with the Colombians, as a shipment of weed was to be delivered at dawn, hoping to secure the kidnapped girl in the process. John Pankow(To Live and Die in LA)has a supporting part as one of the kidnappers, Floyd Higgins, and Margaret Whitton(Major League)is Bramlette's wife, Cassie. The novelty of this particular episode is the unusual environment for which Crockett and Tubbs find themselves, helping out Florida hicks and plotting how in the world they are to shake down a well guarded plantation with limited(and untrained) help. Al Cox, as old-timer Clem, is a hoot, particularly with his muzzle-loader(the "gator-getter")that has trouble firing during the climactic shootout. The final image of Crockett and Tubbs, who are filthy, exhausted, and emotionally drained, in the courtroom is priceless..these guys just don't get paid enough for their trouble!

Glades
Prismark1018 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is Deliverance done Miami Vice style.

When a key witness Bramlette goes missing after he receives a letter telling him that his daughter has been kidnapped.

Crockett and Tubbs go down deep to the Glades to find him. Only to fall foul of some unfriendly locals giving them a swamp Florida welcome.

Before long, they are helping Bramlette and his family free his daughter. They just need to take a group of Colombians out.

It was nice to see Crockett and Tubbs sweating in the swamp. It ends with a big shootout with the bad guys and a race to the court.

Crockett and Tubbs in a gripping Everglades adventure
DVD_Connoisseur10 March 2007
This tale takes Crockett and Tubbs from the seedy streets of downtown Miami to the marshy swamplands of the Everglades. When a protected witness, played by Keith Szarabajka, disappears while being looked after by Zito and Switek, Crockett and Tubbs race against time to find him. The chase leads to the Everglades and an unexpected chain of events unfold.

An exciting and unpredictable episode, "Glades" has a great soundtrack including tracks by The Animals and INXS, excellent performances from the cast, a fast pace and enough action to please most viewers.

9 out of 10.

Rewatching the entire Miami Vice series.
trowland-5202416 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was always a fanboy of Miami Vice and grew up in Miami and lived through the hey day of the series. Unlike most of the other episodes this one spends little time in Miami and most of the action takes place in the Everglades with something of a Deliverance aspect including Clem (Al Cox) playing his fiddle early on. Unlike the pastel clothes in most of the other episodes the actors are dressed in redneck costumes. As in most of the shows in this era there is a clear good verses evil and of course Crockett (Don Johnson) saves the day and gets the missing witness to the court in the nick of time. If you like Miami Vice this episode is a refreshingly different one I still enjoy.

Not one of my favorite episodes.
mm-3919 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not one of my favorite episodes: Glades is a memorable episode. Known as that Swamp episode. What worked: Well there is a rock video moment with the song The fire still burns, with the black Ferrari and the beautiful glades background. Some powerful acting by the cast shows Miami Vice well be an icon for the 80's. What was just okay: Well the story line has a witness disappear and Crockett and Tubbs must find the missing witness was interesting. What did not work: The galdes back ground story was lame. The unbelievable gun fights not realistic at all. And the swampy acting, mixed with thine story ending just reminds me of the usual formulated hour T V. A one time watchable but not memorable episode. I give Glades 4 crocodiles out of 10
