good idea
kwnla4 December 2005
I really enjoyed the film. Having fallen into a similar situation once, I recognized many personalities. Instead of a judge touting the legalities, a lawyer stood up and spouted his assurances. Well done James - you captured our natures very well. My only complaint was the lighting and erratic camera moves. I understand the lighting was poor because it was being radio broadcast (?) - But really, my home videos have smoother pans! I like the fact that most of the actors were working without scripted lines. While some of the dialog was trite -it was a neat and unusual experience to witness their abilities or lack thereof. I would like to know how your actors enjoyed doing their parts.

What could have been? Wonderful job by Mr. Stanley!
andyUTvols11 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Think "Boiler Room" meets "Blair Witch". Not a bad idea and fun to watch but falls short and forces the audience to suspend common sense. Too much time spent on the problems faced by the people involved and in the end, it just,.... ends, no real wrap up. However, I was drawn in and was captivated by the idea presented by the main character. Well worth the money to see Mike Stanley. In the end, I was satisfied enough to send a few friends to it. Overview of the movie....

Think of the easiest way to make money that does not involve a weapon or a plot to take over the world, and it's still more complicated then the money making scheme presented in this movie. Of course it starts out smelling like roses for everyone. However, when you cut out the middle man in your pyramid scheme and go straight to collecting money to the tune of $10,000 per new person brought in, people will lose their mind in collecting their cut faster then you will go postal at your local DMV. Problem is these people go postal in the matter of a few meetings (movie is broken up in number of meetings, trust me, will make sense when you see the movie). Just seems a little too fast based on the plan provided. People are brought in and drop out pretty fast. Most people can use their common sense to fill in the holes and gaps in the movie, but your so drawn in by what is going on, you don't want to use your mind, you want to see it go down! Oh well. In the end the whole thing blows up. Lives are threaten, hearts are broken, and Mike Stanley gives his all in a late push to earn himself an Oscar for this year.

So quick overview. Take a simplified version of "Boiler Room", give it to a college student, and shoot the movie "Blair Witch" style, add in a ton of the best women California has to offer, and you have a six star out of ten star movie.

Come On Man.
redburn035 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This film was so bad. I feel sorry for anyone who invested their time and money into this film. The acting was lame, the story line was weak, and no one really wants to see a bunch of people argue without any development of the reason. The Mexican guy got upset because some other guy was talking to his sister. Did that have anything to do with him getting rich? A judge telling everyone that it was completely legal, come on. All the wasted videotape when the main charter got quiet.JUNK! Was there even a script when they shot this thing! It seemed like they were just going with a "downhill" flow of the story. I have read all the other reviews of this film,on this site, and I think most of them come from the people that worked on this film. If you don't believe me go and see it for yourself, but remember, you are asking for it. I am sorry if someone who was in the film reads this but,GOD! I am so glad it didn't pay to see this film. I just wasted 1.5 hrs of my life.

Champage Wishes and Caviar Dreams
laura-l-johnson16 December 2005
Let me just state for the record that I was not involved in the making of this movie (for the gentleman that thought all comments were from those involved). Now to give my honest assessment of the movie...

Although the filming at times was very dark and the camera work a little dizzying, I still felt compelled to watch the movie.

Haven't most of us at sometime in our lives wanted to be involved in a "get rich scheme which happens overnight"? Most of us however, have the good sense to know that you "can't get something for nothing". The "mastermind" (as another commentator called the main character), is like so many others who come to "Hollywood / CA" to become rich and famous. He's just a tad naive! That being said, I found myself rooting for him to get the hot babe, the hot car and make all his "champagne wishes and caviar dreams come true". It turned out to be a "cautionary tale".

At times I also questioned if I was watching something staged or a real event (almost like reality TV). I've since found out that the actors ad lib.

I can't wait to see what Mr. Hergott comes up with next!

Brilliant!

Warning: Spoilers
It was my great pleasure to have attended the May 20th screening of this film in Cannes. I liked it very much: I found it clever, very well cast and certainly thought provoking on many levels.

What I admire is the fact that at first the director establishes the experimental character of his subject (a thesis) and then he spins it in a way that he touches a reality with implicitly putting us, the viewer, in a constant state of wonder...Is it true? Is it a theory? Are the people real? How can they be "acting" since they look so sincere, even awkward at times like in real life?...etc... The viewers think, they dance with him, as he leads them in an emotional roller coaster and yet there is resistance.

The games he plays with the viewers' mind is very clever and we come out of the film wanting to know more (I remember this lady who came with me, and who asked all of these questions of the director afterwards: she had fallen into "his trap", she was worried about the money...this was great because this is obviously exactly what the filmmaker intended).

The filmmaker did his job with brio!

Greed and distrust has never been so entertaining and amusing.
TinaCzarnota24 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The audience gets to play proverbial fly on wall at the posh "meetings" and one helluva grand finale of the pyramid, Muffin Club. In the soon to be released, feature film, ALL THAT I NEED, director/actor James Hergott delivers as the lovable, sometimes naive mastermind of one funky pyramid scheme. Sidekicks, The Judge, a blast as middle-aged "party boy" makes sure everything's in check until a particular blond babe becomes a threat to the easy going, really flowin', money making enterprise. The scheme continues well after Duke, the owner of Nara, Nara serves James a reality check with his margarita. I see great things for The Judge's long suffering wife, and Lon, the recovering cancer patient, the lovely Stephanie, Bond look-alike, Uncle Joe and the cast of ALL THAT I NEED long after this wild ride climaxes on the high seas. ALL That I NEED is set for national release on Nov. 4, 2005. Look for it at your favorite theater. Also, rumor has it that an ALL THAT I NEED contest giveaway is in the works. I'll be looking for details on that one. Enjoy the show!

Intriguing -- still trying to figure out if this is real
pronoya5 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit, I left the theater wondering if this story was real or not. There are parts that made me think, yeah, this is gotta be staged. But then, most of the film was crazy, like there wasn't a script. Everything seemed to happen in the moment, spontaneously. Some of the dialog seemed so "unrehearsed" that I couldn't help but wonder if this wasn't real.

There's even a part where a priest actually does a blessing on a car. He's even listed in the film credits as Father Daniel Cox. If he's not a priest, are they allowed to do that? So I'm left wondering, is this movie real?

The only negative I can say is that the film was a bit dark in the theater. I wasn't sure if it was the film or a projection problem. It didn't ruin it, just made some details in some scenes hard to see. Other than that, I really enjoyed the film.

Anyway, I won't give away the ending. However, if nothing else, this movie serves as a STRONG warning against pyramid schemes.

All That I Need is for the FBI not to find out to much info on me........
miad9673 December 2005
All That I Need, landed in theaters across the US last night!! Was a great turn out, intrigued audience members sat and concentrated on all the scheming going on throughout the movie. With myself and the women from Newport beach, CA , being the original Muffin Club Members. Friends and Family sat all around me at the Regal Colonnade Theater here in Las Vegas, Nevada, and believe me, my friends that I have just made out here in the last few months, and know only bits and pieces of what I was really involved with in this pyramid, they had tons of questions for me after the movie. For Example: "So how many times did you actually roll??". "How much did you make in this pyramid?", and I even got a "Mia, I'm scared of you now, your that good at scamming people?, followed by a cynical laugh or two.

So, from my perspective, its kind of an ambivalent feeling. Of course I want us all to profit from box office sales, then again, I don't want it to gain so much popularity that the FBI retraces our steps and starts following my tail again..........

Only time will tell, but as for Las Vegas, NV, better known as Sin City, this is one sin made public that will either make or break me and the rest of us involved in that pyramid. ...............MIA

Great movie!
bjones-394 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched "All That I Need" in a theater at the Irvine Spectrum this weekend. It was great. I enjoyed the honest look into how greed and power corrupts people. It needed to be shown - and the cast & crew did a great job of showing it. I love the humor of it. It's naturally funny, and I like that. I would definitely suggest that everyone go see it before it leaves theaters. Then, buy the DVD!

My wife wants me to mention that she didn't approve of the foul language, but I say: "Say whatever the hell you need to, right!"

Oh, and check out the scene when the jerk gets pushed into the pool. That's some funny stuff. I think one of the guys even calls his own buddy an asshole. Classic! And when the car dealer tells the other guy to "shut the **** up!" I couldn't stop laughing.

See it!

very entertaining
stevedavetom765 January 2006
Let me start out by saying that I did a little post-movie interweb research on "All That I Need" and found several different numbers for the films budget, but found one page that the filmmaker himself said $40k. This statistic alone, and the fact that it was picked up by major theaters, should be enough to indicate its quality.

Don't go into viewing "All That I Need" expecting Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron with Ang Lee action, that isn't what it's all about. It's about capturing the raw emotions of individual people as they see the worst come out in their fellow man and their dreams collapse in front of them. I'm not going to ruin it, but it's shot in a documentary style of which the name escapes me at the moment. The subjects of the film are caught off-guard often and sometimes almost seem to be holding back in front of the camera. This is a good thing, as the pure feel of the situation is captured and the authenticity of emotion is conveyed with ease.

I saw it several weeks ago in L.A. I don't know if it's still in theaters, but I'm sure it will be coming out on DVD in a couple of months. "All That I Need" is a fun flick and one that you should check out.

This was as fun as watching my drunk friends!
andyrcox5 December 2005
There's something pretty fun about watching a bunch of people get together and do a bunch of stupid things, then yell at each other, blaming each other for whatever trouble they find themselves in. Watching All That I Need was pretty much like that. I just kept laughing because I noticed that most of the people in the movie had no idea how stupid they actually looked. They just kept saying and doing stupid things, over and over and over. On top of this, all the greed and money just adds to the rancor in the film. (My English teacher would be proud that I used the word rancor!)

I definitely recommend this movie. If nothing else, you get to see how money, sex, greed and gossip causes people to act crazy. Kinda like real life, only better.

Good flick, had me wondering
jsmoney51504 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This one will leave you wondering. From the beginning I had the feeling that it was fictional, but really couldn't shake the feeling that it may be a documentary. Some people in real life are pretty cheesy, but the car salesman dude was over the top. Then the ending, especially the actors' being mostly listed under their real names, had me leaving the theater scratching my head. I of course did a little research when I got home and found out it was indeed fictional. The main thing I really look for in a movie is the ability of it to foment thought. This movie isn't the best shot or best acted film ever made, but it will entertain you and have you thinking about it long after the credits have rolled. It's a pretty underground flick, and evidently had a pretty tiny budget, which impresses me even more. Overall, I'm giving it a high rating because of it's entertainment value and unique concept. I don't know if and when it will come out on DVD, but I'm sure you could google it and find out. Worth a shot if it does.

Moviebear comments
xkl4826 June 2005
I just got permission to release the following praise about our movie "All That I Need", and I thought I would share it with you;.......... "We at MOVIEBEAR TV viewed ,"ALL THAT I NEED" ,prior to CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 05. The film itself is extraordinarily authentic - and we were left rather puzzled, but intensely intrigued. Either this film is real, and this filmmaker got some fantastic footage or if it is staged, the acting is second-to-none. It provides a very interesting insight for anyone who has ever been slightly tempted by the extravagant promises that pyramid schemes offer (and who hasn't been at least once in their life?!). If you're interested in getting rich quick, this is a cautionary tale for you. We have expressed our interest to Mr.Hergott to acquire the movie for our online "Pay Per View network."

"All That I Need" A Must See!!
moviesdownload6 December 2005
As one of 60 million people worldwide who had done pyramid schemes, this movie really hit's home. It keeps you on the "edge" of your seat and is worth the price of admission. This is a "must see" movie. It has all the elements that drive people, greed, lust, jealousy, etc. Friendships are tested and real life drama unfolds in front of your eyes. I am sure just about everybody can relate to this movie and for an "Indie" film to be picked up for distribution at the theaters is saying really how good this movie is. I rarely see movies more than once but tonight I am going again with a group of friends again. This movie really teaches you a valuable lesson about life.

You have to see this Movie!
bakaluys4 December 2005
It was a little dark when I saw it, but I hear that's because the first run was digitally broadcast. If it was shown on HD or film it would have been brighter. But its the story that got me. It was a little slow at first, but then interesting and exciting, until the last minute. I think everyone knows somebody who has been duped by a pyramid or get rich quick scheme. The characters are intriguing and seemed to be so real. Everyone I was with was wondering if it was real. But if it was real, how could they have captured the love scene and the one at the gym? These are questions that make you think maybe it wasn't real. All That I Need gets an "A" from me.

Awesome Flick!!
tread_not4 December 2005
I saw this movie in Las vegas last night, and Wow!! I became aware of it through this website, and became intrigued a few months back. I am interested to see how it all turns out, will the "bad" boys get captured? Will people get repaid??...........This is a 2 thumbs up movie by far!! I hope the release date goes way beyond its initial run. I know a lot of people who have just recently, in the last few days started hearing about this movie, and if it runs for longer, the audiences will pick up soon, presumably like Blair Witch did. I suggest anyone out there who is thinking of starting a pyramid, check this documentary out first, because, personally, I was in one, and got scammed, if I would of seen this first,, I wouldve thought twice!!

Warning: Spoilers
what did i learn from "All That I Need"? Don't get involved in a pyramid scheme. i'm not sure if it was real or not. at the end the credits were all the real names of the people that were in the movie. some of the scenes seem as if the actors and actresses truly have no idea what in the heck is going on. the genuine fear and sadness that takes them over at the end is hard to fake, at least the way it looked to me.

having said that, this film is by no means sad and scary. it's really funny at times and upbeat despite it's serious subject matter. i see a lot of independent films, and most of them are extremely weepy, or hard to watch because the director tries to be innovative with weird filters, jittery camera shots, and weird angles. not the case here, "All That I Need" is shot steadily in high quality video, and moves along with plenty of comic relief. i for one will be trying to get ahold of the DVD.

Totally original!
investlife15 December 2005
I read that the budget for this movie was only $150K. Considering that, I wasn't expecting Kong like special effects. What was surprising was how original this story played out. I have never heard about a movie being done before about such a taboo subject as a pyramid scheme.

Director Hergott approaches the topic with originality as well. There is a certain menace with this movie. You feel like you are there watching things unfold, and you are never really sure what will happen. Since it is not a typical narrative, you don't feel at ease. I honestly thought a character might get shot, or worse. This engaged me in the story.

At first I though maybe this whole thing would be a good thing to start with my friends. By the end of it I'm sure glad I didn't.

The characters were fun and unpredictable.

Considering all the crap tat is out there these days. All of the recycled movies and sequels, its refreshing to see something original for once. And to see a filmmaker who is original.

Great Film About Pyramid Schemes
dontcallmebj13 January 2006
I heard about "All That I Need" on a local radio station (orlando,fl) talking about pyramid schemes and how they suck people in. He said something about "All That I Need" being an independent film in limited release, so I went to go check it out when it was here.

It definitely takes a hardcore look at greed and how pyramid schemes screw a lot of the people that get involved. I was involved in one several years ago, so I totally relate to what was going on. The documentary style the film was shot in was awesome, it conveyed a reality that most "fictional" movies can't really quite grasp.

I laughed, I cried, I wanted to beat the big samoan restaurant owner up. Anyway, I'm giving it such a high rating because I know it's an independent film, and I've been less entertained by huge budget pictures that I've rated an 8 or 9. Check it out if it ever hits DVD.

I hope you found this to be a good review.

All That I Need ,...review

All That I Need Review:

I saw a late version of "ALL THAT I NEED" , shortly before it premiered in Cannes.

I have to say it definitely has all the elements it needs to be a top seller.

There is no doubt in my mind that once the public sees the trailer for this film,

there is strong possibility that it may be a

"first weekend sellout".

unique concept, good show
jonesywins8015 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
"All That I Need" is a quirky little piece that ends up being a quality flick. When I say quirky, I mean it's kind of hard to figure out if it's a for real documentary or a scripted film looking to fool the viewer. It goes to great lengths to assure you of its authenticity. I suppose that point would be it's main draw, so I won't give it away on that topic.

What I will say is that it is about a shifty dude that scams people out of their money so he can buy really nice rides and date really hot women. I'm not Sigmund Freud, but I would think that another part of the movie's appeal to me was that little part of me that always wanted to get rich quick and have fast women and fast cars, as they say. As with any scam, its run is not infinite, but "All That I Need" excels where a lot of other films fail by really twisting it up and not giving you at all what you expect to happen. I'm not going to go any further, but I did put a spoiler warning on this review for even going this far. It's a good movie to see if you get a chance, so you can see for yourself.

Awesome movie, man!
lewister4 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This movie totally rocked! The chicks are way hot. I wish I could have been at those parties man. Oh yeah!! Especially that blond chick. I'd like to see her play with some toys! And that car was wicked awesome, too! Whoa! Too bad that chick blew chunks in it. If I was that guy I would have gotten crazy! But the movie's cool, man. Go see it.

And I think it really happened, yo. That's crazy. I wish someone would start a pyramid scheme in my town. I wanna make some cash and get mad chicks and stuff.

If anyone knows how to get ahold of that blond chick, let me know man.

"All That I Need" man. Yeah, money is all that I need.

interesting concept, funny too
bobbyjpimpin714 January 2006
this movie is different from any other movie you've ever seen before. it was definitely a surprise, and a different type of film than i'm used to seeing in a major theater. anyway, it's about a money scheme that this guy puts together to bilk all these southern California rich idiots out of their money. most of the characters are pretty shady, so you don't feel too bad for them when they part ways with their "hard-earned" cash. i don't want to put any spoilers in this, so i'll leave the plot summary at that. what makes this movie so interesting is constantly wondering whether what you are watching is genuine or contrived. some of the scenes look setup, but still appear to be authentic, as far as the acting goes. other scenes appear to be all hidden camera style and the "actors" don't appear to know that they are there, and tend to get mad when they do see them. it looked like real anger to me. there are several things in this movie that will make you question whether it's real or not, you'll have to see it to see the rest. if you're reading this now, don't do any research on the net about whether it's real or not, just rent the DVD, watch it, and decide for yourself. more fun that way.

THEN do the research. it's interesting to find out the history of the film and how it was made. there's plenty of good info about it, a lot of it on this site.

wild stuff y'all
bogeyman28320 January 2006
my girlfriend and I saw this movie in the theater awhile back and laughed all the way through. the reason why it was so funny was that the cameras caught the real thing going down, no fake stuff with actors forcing reactions, this was the real deal. there was also a lot of drama, which, again, was the real thing. just like reality TV, it's more interesting when it's "real".

it was definitely a low budget movie, but that really wasn't much of a downfall i don't think. if a director can pull off a good movie without big name actors, right on.

i don't know exactly how they promoted this movie, but i agree with the other reviewer that said it should have got an extended release, because it was not in the theaters for very long. maybe it will come out on DVD soon. i'll keep checking back here and at amazon.

strange but refreshing
kccckarl21 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I've never seen a movie quite like All That I Need. At first I thought it was a movie movie and then it turned out to be what I thought was a documentary, then back to a movie again after I did some research on it. Basically, from what I looked up on several websites including this one, All That I Need is a fictional movie shot in the style of cinema verite. Not being fluent in Latin myself, I don't know what that means, but I imagine it has something to do with not telling your actors that some REAL CRAZY STUFF is about to happen and then filming their unsuspecting reactions in an attempt to make the movie look like an authentic documentary. Which, by the way, it does a wonderful job of.

Anyway, All That I Need is a film about greed and money, specifically involving pyramid schemes, or "muffin clubs" as they're sometimes called. I'd heard of them before, but never done any research and certainly never saw a movie about them. This is a great theme to pick for the style that the movie is shot in because it shows the real emotions of the characters. When you don't have millions of dollars to throw at actors and actresses, you have to get the best out of the ones you can afford, and the director pulled off a major feat in that respect. Kudos to everyone involved. Check this film out when it hits DVD, you will not be disappointed.
