Fox's The Simple Life wrapped up its seven-episode run Wednesday with solid, if not spectacular, demo ratings while the return of The Bachelorette boosted ABC into a tie for the night with Fox for the adults 18-49 demo crown. Fox easily won the opening hour of primetime in adults 18-49 with That '70s Show (9.1 million viewers, 4.6 rating/13 share in the demo) and Simple Life (11 million, 5.5/14). At 9 p.m., ABC's Bachelorette (12.4 million, 5.6/13) took over with a good but not great showing by past "Bachelor/Bachelorette" performance standards. But the Bachelorette lead-in helped ABC's 10 p.m. reality vehicle Celebrity Mole (9.2 million, 4.5/12) stay surprisingly competitive in the key demo with NBC's stalwart Law & Order (17.2 million, 5.3/14).

Fox and NBC split the nightly win on a busy Wednesday in primetime. Fox was buoyed by solid returns for The Simple Life and The O.C. CBS had a strong showing at 9 p.m. from The King of Queens while NBC's Law & Order reigned as the most-watched program of the night. The return of ABC's Celebrity Mole also did respectable business against Law & Order in the 10 p.m. hour, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research.
Basketball bad boy-turned movie star Dennis Rodman is ready to stage a comeback after giving up booze. The fallen sports star and former husband of Baywatch babe Carmen Electra is sick of being portrayed as a partying wildman, and he wants to turn his back on his booze-fueled arrests. A competitor on new reality TV show Celebrity Mole, which began in America tonight, Rodman is also planning to return to the basketball court with American Basketball League team the Long Beach Jam. And he says he's now sober, insisting, "I haven't had a drink in three months. Honestly. And I've never done drugs. People might find that hard to believe but I've never done drugs." Rodman's fellow Celebrity Mole contestants include actors Stephen Baldwin and Corbin Bernsen and former The Cosby Show star Keshia Knight Pulliam.

ABC pulled Karen Sisco off its schedule but will give the critically acclaimed crime drama a second chance in the spring. "We love this show, but it has become increasingly obvious that it's not working on Wednesday nights," ABC Entertainment president Susan Lyne said in a statement. "Rather than give up, we're going to complete production on the remaining episodes and aggressively relaunch the series this March in a new time period," Lyne said Friday. ABC also set a date for Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital. The 15-hour drama series from the horrormeister will debut with a two-hour episode March 3. The series stars include Andrew McCarthy and Diane Ladd. New installments of two reality series, The Bachelorette and Celebrity Mole: Yucatan, will begin Jan. 14, ABC said.
