A pretty fantastic flick, considering....
whenelvisdied3 June 2003
For being as obviously low budget as it was, this movie is pretty wonderful. The dialogue is sharp and hysterically funny, the pacing is quick and never leaves you wishing you were doing something else, and there are stellar performances by Patrick Casey and Andy Kriss. The rest of the cast does an admirable job of keeping us alternating between laughing and cringing. Definitely track this gem down if you can find it--you won't be disappointed.

"No we're not going to put anything in the holes, if we did that they wouldn't holes anymore." Surprisingly really entertaining & pretty funny.

Warning: Spoilers
Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! starts as Herman Schumacher (co-writer & co-producer Patrick Casey) graduates from St. Olaf College with a major in World History, he hitches a lift to the town of Bloomington where he has to find a place to stay. He spots a flier for a spare room, he heads on over to the address & talks to the owner of the house Blaine (N. David Prestwood) who says he can have the room. Herman meets the other house-mates, Damon (Andy 'Hippa' Kriss), Alan (Sean Hall) & Icky (editor, co-writer, co-producer & director Worm Miller) all of whom seem a little on the eccentric side to say the least. Herman notices that his room is still full of someone else's things, he asks Blaine who says that the room used to belong to Thaddeus who mysteriously disappeared a few months back. Herman gets a job & discovers that his major only qualifies him to dig holes in a field, Alan bizarrely changes his name to Chartreuse, he notices that in the back garden there are pieces of wood stuck in the ground with lots of previous roommates names on them, something starts to steal his clothes & he discovers that his girlfriend Cassie (Maria A. morales) is only 12 years old. Life in the 'real world' isn't going as Herman expected & he also starts to believe that one of his roommates is a serial killer who buries the bodies in the back garden...

Edited, co-written, co-produced & directed Worm Miller Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! has absolutely no right whatsoever to a good film but against all the odds & defying all my instincts & expectations it is. The script is a madcap, crazy collection of bizarre incidents, quirky likable character's & genuinely funny gags. Even though the title may lead you to believe that Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! is a comedy horror there is very little horror in it, it definitely doesn't play like a horror film. I really liked this film & I found it very funny, the style of comedy in Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! is an acquired taste for sure. It's a sort of silly juvenile humour that worked very well, for instance when Blaine caught Herman using his comb & then Blaine kept reminding him of it & threatening him. The way Alan changes his name to Chartreuse & everyone else just accepts it like it's a normal thing to do apart from Herman. Or the scenes when Herman was working, even though he has a major he just digs a hole in a field & the company demands that he wears a tie to do it! The fact that Cassie is an underage nymphomaniac, Herman's gay boss, a guy who gives Herman a lift & then keeps talking about killing hitchhikers & faking a stroke behind the wheel & there's even a creature that likes to steal Herman's clothes. I've probably made it sound crap & really stupid but I found it a very watchable, very funny & imaginative film that I'm glad I spent the time to watch. The story is minimal but it's clever & well thought out, everything comes together & works in context. This is a really good film that deserves to be seen, I can't think of anything bad to say about it other than it's extremely silly & odd & many may not like that approach.

Director Miller works wonders with the budget he had, apparently Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! had a budget of about $500! Jesus Christ, for $500 they worked miracles. While not particularly outstanding in any area it's pretty well made, the locations are good & I must admit that I have seen far cheaper looking films than this. What the filmmakers obviously lacked in money & facilities they make up for it in enthusiasm & energy, I bet this was a fun production to work on. There's are one or two murders in it, someone is run over with a lawnmower but as a whole the special effects consist of nothing more than a bit of fake blood.

With that budget of a measly $500 don't expect state of the art special effects, exotic locations, explosions or fancy camera work but for what it is it's well put together. I even thought the music was pretty good. The actors in Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! were obviously friends & family so don't expect great acting but it's OK, at least all of the character's are likable & pretty funny so they must be doing something right.

Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! was a big surprise to me, when I go into these shot-on-video low budget films I really don't expect much at all but this one really delivered. It's not for everyone but I recommend Hey, Stop Stabbing Me! to anyone looking for something a bit different. Don't forget to watch the end credits as they contain outtakes & bloopers which seem to confirm that it must have been fun working on this.

I expected to hate this but didn't
darkonex-316663 May 2022
I'm not big on low budget, sov, or indie films. This is actually probably only the 3rd sov film I've watched and I got it with the purchase of another film. I figured I'd give it a chance for at least a few min then put it on my "to sell or trade" shelf but I actually very much enjoyed the whole film! I think the biggest thing going for this is it had a ton of fantastic humor in it, and you can tell they really put a lot of heart into making this. I also noticed the camera work actually seemed very well done regarding angles and transitions etc. The actors were very good, funny, and charismatic. Usually with lower budget fair like this everybody seems so boring and stiff, but this was not the case with this one. Anyway, color me surprised, I definitely recommend anybody to at least give it a chance and you too might be surprised.

Non Stop Hilarity

These guys are comedy kings! I love this movie to death. And I was scared with all the people saying it was good that maybe they just have the same type of

sense of humor that I might not have. But I was Dead Wrong! I thought it was

great! From start to finish it made me laugh and there was never a dull moment either. But pay no attention to the cover of the box, its not a scream parody. Its not a really a parody of anything at all its just a well round comedy. Can't wait to see their next DVD "Murder Made Easy" which might be coming out later this

year. So please find this movie and buy it. You won't regret it.

pretty stupid in all ....
frando-226 May 2006
Well, I hate to burst everyone's bubble before me, but IMAO this was a very ordinary film that was mildly amusing at best. What's worse is that it invokes a hefty glorification of gratuitous violence, so much so that it ruined the film (again IMAO). The violence wasn't ridiculous enough to be a mockery, but an essential part of the film, overstating other perhaps more interesting plot aspects that might have been developed further to a more satisfying - and original - whole.

This is a pity, because it was very well acted (these guys shame some of the more recognized Hollywood stars), and the character development wasn't too bad either. And there was definitely potential, some of the peripheral themes were definitely candidates for further development. What ruined it was that the plot was so bloody stupid. This could have been a great movie if the central plot theme wasn't so banal.

Sorry I couldn't give it more than two points out of ten, but this is an absolute (rather than a relative) scale, it was definitely a masterpiece for the budget they had. Shame about the subject matter.

Lame attempt at comedy/horror, real amateur stuff!!!
cool_cool_114 July 2006
Hey stop stabbing me! (2003) really disappointed me, i was looking forward to this after reading some positive reviews on here but i found it to be lame, unfunny and most of the characters are all ugly talentless geeks.......... it was obviously a bunch of nerdy friends who THOUGHT they could make some sort of funny "Scream/Scary Movie" type film and cash in!!! Well sadly for them and us, this "film" SUCKS bigtime, it must have been made over a weekend, certainly no longer than that. There was no "acting" abilities here folks, and as for a script, well i don't think there was one, seemed like they were just making it up as they went along!! These desperate students got together and made it on a camcorder it would seem!! Basically, the plot is about this college graduate called Herman Schumacher who rents a room with a bunch of weird student types, but weird things start to happen to Herman, his nymph girlfriend seems to be having sex with all the roommates, one of the roommates seems to be a serial killer, a monster (guy in a gorilla suit), seems to be stealing all his clothes...... nothing is going right for Herman!!! To be honest i didn't make it to the end, i was so bored with this, i suggest people stick to "proper" comedy/horror films such as Scream, American Pie, Road Trip, Scary Movie etc etc, give this film a miss if you can ever find it, it's rare for a reason you know............. because it's total CRAP!

It has no right to be good but it is.
jessewillis27 February 2004
HEY, STOP STABBING ME! has no right to be good, it has a no budget feel, its shot on videotape instead of film and uses an all amateur unpaid cast.... honestly this film sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. But not only have they managed not to suck its actually PRETTY DAMN GOOD MOVIE! This team has the chops to tackle hollywood films head-on and I'll bet you if it had something like half of the exposure of Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi it'd be doing as much business! Normally I'd point to the few weak spots (the fight sequence in the yard for example) but I won't even do that, this film pulls itself up by its own borrowed bootstraps and overcomes the mediocrity of most film and acomplishes the uberfilm dream it truly entertains. Congrats to all involved, see you on the flipside! ;-)

Good Stuff
TheMorningLine20 October 2005
Being one of the cast members, I suppose I'm somewhat biased, but I think the movie is flat out awesome. Being low budget hurts it in some ways, but gives it its own charm at the same time. Why is it low budget? Because my brother and his friends were broke and couldn't afford to spend a ton of money on the project. Anyway, tell all your friends about the movie and keep your eyes out for the next one entitled "Sledgehammers at Dawn." I'm not sure how or if it will be distributed at this time since it isn't totally done. All the positive reviews are a blast to read, so thanks to everyone who is giving it a positive buzz. Brownie points to anyone who can figure out which member of the cast I am!

A Silly B*****d of a Movie!
msyeahalright19 August 2003
This movie is pretty damn zany. And pretty damn groovy. Some of the descriptions I'd read of the movie before I tracked it down make it sound like a horror movie, but it's really not at all. It's totally a comedy. Sure a guy gets run over by a lawnmower and that sort of jazz, but I was laughing. They clearly had no money in the budget. And some of the acting is pretty low end, but in kinda a good way. This all adds to the movie's punky charm. My favorite character is Wuzzle. He's a sock monster. The costume is super lame, but I love it. I think there are other people who would like this movie too. If you think Bruce Campbell is the greatest actor in the world, which u should, then I'd bet my brother's left nut that you'll like Stabbing. Unless you're chicken that is.

Pleasantly Surprised
worldpieceprod15 February 2007
This movie surprised the hell out of me. It was shot on a nonexistent budget but these guys, (and girls) use the lack of funding in clever ways. I was laughing out loud in the first ten minutes. This continued for the next hour and a half. The film follows a college graduate's life as he deals with new roommates, new career, nympho girlfriend, laundry stealing monsters, kung-fu children, serial killers, and bad musicians. There's never a dull moment in this flick. The cast was great. Everyone played their parts deadpan. I didn't like Dorm Daze. It's hard to believe the same guys directed this. This hidden gem is like a cross between Better Off Dead and The Evil Dead. If you can find it, Check It Out.

Why spend $8 to see a crappy movie at the theater - buy this DVD instead!
diestler16 August 2004
I first heard of Worm Miller and Patrick Casey when I stumbled across "National Lampoon's Dorm Daze" in a local Target. Although I have not seen that film yet, I did become interested in the writing team once I started reading online reviews about "Hey, Stop Stabbing Me." I figured, hey, for $8 what do I got to lose? Although very cheaply made, I found myself hooked. Very funny in parts - I was rolling at certain points. They even manage to support the film with a great soundtrack. One of the best scenes in the film is the music montage with Manplanet's "Better Than This." I truly was surprised how enjoyable this film was. Maria Morales does a fantastic job as does Andy Kriss. Don't be fooled by the title or the box cover, this is not a spoof - it is an original comedy. I think Miller/Casey have a huge future ahead of them and I can't wait to see their future films.

If you are a fan of good cheese, check this out, you won't get a better buy on DVD for 8 bucks - in fact, most films in the theater won't give you this much enjoyment for 8 bucks. Support indie filmmakers and buy this DVD!

gut-splitting hilarious
movieman_kev14 October 2003
When i first heard of this film, I was in the middle of a grizzly murder, so I payed no real mind to the girl screaming "Hey stop Stabbing me!". As the months stretched on, my mind kept returning to her last words "on DVD for about 10 bucks". My reaction at the time was "huh? what the??". So recently when i was searching for extra-strength Draino on-line, i stumbled on Sub-rosa's site because I'm a bad speller. That's neither here nor there. Long story, not so long. This movie is the BEST no-budget movie i EVER SEEN!! I laughed until my guts split!! My spleen still hurts!!! Buy this film......NOW!!!

My Grade: 9 out of 10 bloody machetes!!!

TWO THUMBS UP!
poundmeintheasshardbitch27 August 2003
To quote the movie, "Sex AND violence, two thumbs up... your butt!" Out of context that quote really doesn't work, but trust me in the wacky world of "Hey, Stop Stabbing Me!" this and other hilarious lines will have you rolling out of your seat and on to the floor! My friend just showed me a copy of this movie, and I've got to tell you go out and rent it! It's the story of a man graduating college and going out into the real world where nothing is like he expected! I don't mean this in an existential post-modern sort way either, I mean his parents suddenly disappear on a long term vacation, best friend can't speak to him anymore because a new wife he's new met hates him, and he moves into a house where it's assumed the old roommates keep moving out and joining a cult (leaving all of their possessions behind) and that's just in the first ten minutes! If you love horror or comedy, this is a definite must see, baby!

Great!
bgregory09827 August 2011
This movie is AMAZING, to say the least. I love Worm Miller and Patrick Casey's work, I started out by Dorm Daze, Dorm Daze 2, and TRANSYLMANIA. Transylmania being my favorite. Eventually i wanted to know more work from them, so i looked up what they have done, and one of the titles i came up with was "Hey Stop Stabbing Me", so i clicked here and saw the cover and thought it was random, but funny, then i ended up getting the movie off of Amazon after reading the good reviews for this movie, I started watching this with an open mind, and i ended up laughing at everything that happened on here. It is really funny, especially for a 500 dollar budget. The humor in it was just very clever and funny, this movie is really great and i recommend this movie to anyone!
