Indian drama film “Mom,” which marks the one of the final on-screen performances by actress Sridevi, is set for theatrical release in China from next month. Sridevi died in February last year, seven months’ after the India release of “Mom” in July 2017.
The film is set for release in China on March 22. It is being imported on revenue sharing terms and will partner with Sparkle Media for the Chinese outing.
“We will be giving the film as big a release as some of the bigger Bollywood films. We hope for a successful run in China especially since the audience there, we feel, will be able to relate to this powerful story of a strong female character’s journey,” a spokesman for India’s Zee Studios told Variety.
Directed by Ravi Udyawar, “Mom” is about how a girl’s life changes when she is brutally gang-raped by a group of spoiled rich students from her school.

Mumbai, Aug 13: Actress Sridevi turned 50 Tuesday. She still has the charm and curves that can give many leading actresses of the Hindi film industry a run for their money. What's more, her critically acclaimed "English Vinglish" last year has proved that her acting skills are yet to turn rusty.
On her birthday, here are her top 10 films that made many go weak in the knees:
* "Jaag Utha Insan" (1984): Though it was "Himmatwala" that launched her into stardom in Bollywood, it was this unsuccessful nugget of a film produced by Rakesh Roshan and directed by the inimitable K. Vishwanath, where Sridevi shone as a temple dancer wooed.

Himmatwala is an official remake of the 1983 release which had Jeetendra and Sridevi in the leading roles. Directed by Sajid Khan, this version stars Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah. The original, with the exception of the soundtrack, it should be asserted that the 1983 Himmatwala is by no means a classic and it contains a number of imperfections that make it a very average film overall. This remake has been updated for the new generation of cinemagoers, with the screenplay also being edited with new twists and thrills. Despite the remake containing many holes, it is still a modestly enjoyable film that will not disappoint you. Surprisingly, all together this latest version by Sajid Khan is stronger than the original Himmatwala.
The story is based on Ravi (Ajay Devgn), who returns to Ramnagar village after many years, where he reunites with his mother Savitri (Zarina Wahab) and sister Padma (Leena Jumani). Ravi...

Film: Himmatwala; Starring: Jeetendra, Sridevi...Oops, Ajay Devgan , Tamannaah, etc; Directed by Sajid Khan; Rating: **
Sridevi famously said recently that her 1983 career-making potboiler "Himmatwala" was no "Mughal-e-Azam". She was right to a point....Until now, when Sajid Khan's remake of the 1983 K. Raghvendra Rao film has come along to provide a comparative viewpoint.
And suddenly the old "Himmatwala" does appear to be a classic. It gave us the timeless Sridevi as an arrogant spoilt rich bitch who mouthed insanely capitalistic dialogues like "I hate the poor".
Thirty years later, Tamannaah Bhatia does a Sridevi. She gets into Sridevi's leather pants, with a whip to match and tortures the peasants in a village.

Ajay Devgn has defended his decision to star in Sajid Khan’s remake of Himmatwala, by claiming that the original film is no Mughal-e-Azam. Ajay had the following to say to the Indian media regarding this: “We would never try to attempt a Mughal-e-Azam, because we could never try to beat Mughal-e-Azam. We can only do films which we have got the ingredients for and feel that we can better. Otherwise, what is the point of making a film? So you should never touch classics.”
The 43 year old actor will be seen paired opposite newcomer Tamannaah in this remake of the 1983 film, which had Sridevi and Jeetendra in the leading roles. It was Sridevi herself who had initially stated that Himmatwala was no Mughal-e-Azam and hence had no qualms about the film being remade. Ajay emphasised that had it been Mughal-e-Azam, he would never have touched it.

Firstly, I cannot convey my utmost excitement for Sajid Khan’s remake of Himmatwala, whether it was the exciting promos that promised a more energized Ajay Devgn or Tamannah Bhatia making her Bollywood debut. However, I did approach with trepidation when the first promos of the iconic Nainon Mein Sapna, which seemed like a by-the-numbers recreation of the multicolored sets or the lack of dance moves in Devgn and Bhatia. Yet it was the music that hooked us all in from the addictive “Tha Thaiya Ta Thaiya ho” and that Sajid and Wajid hadn’t added any overt flourishes to that iconic melody. This album is tons of fun, yet upon Khan’s insistence that they not stray too far from the source material, Sajid and Wajid play it a little safe. What we can appreciate is the ambition of the songs by using artists from the Laximant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri...

Almost every Bollywood fan is aware of the fact that the 80′s classic Himmatwala (1983) is being remade by director Sajid Khan. It stars Ajay Devgn and Tamannah, who will be re-enacting the roles which were played by Jitendra and Sridevi for the original version. However, for the soundtrack to this film, music composers Sajid-Wajid have roped in musicians who have worked with the likes of Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji, Bappi Lahiri and R.D. Burman in order to enhance the 80′s feel to it. These musicians will form part of an orchestra for the recording of this album, rather than Sajid-Wajid adopting the typical electronic sound which is regularly in use today.
Sajid Khan confirmed this in a statement to the Indian media and had this to say. “Whether it is Sajid-Wajid, Sameer, Vashuji (Bhagnani) or I, we genuinely felt that organic sound of an orchestra would do a lot of justice to...

The infamous duo Sajid-Wajid have composed a peppy item number for Himmatwala, and have christened it as ‘Mummy item’ since it offers a mix of features.
“Most of the films have item songs. But this song is the Mummy item, which means it is the mother of all item songs,” said Sajid at the music launch of the film. Wajid said that one of the main reasons is for the first time, Sheila and Munni i.e. Sunidhi Chauhan and Mamta Sharma will “be singing together along with Bappi Lahiri.
Sajid added, This item features five topmost actresses from their different states and five different languages, which is also the reason why it is called the ‘mummy’ item.”
Director Sajid Khan apparently wanted this remake of the 1983 hit film to be his directorial debut and he said that he had been writing the draft keeping Ajay Devgn in mind right from the beginning.

As you probably know Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala is a tribute to the 80s version that starred Jeetendra and Sri Devi. This incarnation stars the great Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah and from what we have seen so far it looks to be fabulous. The director is really making sure to pay tribute to the original while bringing in a new flavor and story to the classic film.
Here is something really interesting, one of the songs he has retained is ‘Naino Mein Sapna’ and what is so incredible, besides the visuals, is who is singing it. Kishore Kumar sung the original and now his son Amit Kumar has rendered the new version.

Yes, you read right – Sonakshi was indeed inspired by yesteryear actresses, Sridevi and Parveen Babi for her latest appearance in the song ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ for Ajay Devgn and South’s Tamannaah (Bhatia)’s remake of 80’s hit Himmatwala.
We’ve talked about the song before, but never in great detail, so what does director Sajid Khan have to say about the song? “The studio set up and the props take us back to the 80′s and I have taken inspiration from the discos of the 80′s era which include, Scorpio, Xanadu, RGs, Cellars and Take Off. Being a common visitor to these places enabled me to recreate the entire set. The movie is a tribute to the era and one can see certain iconic elements in it, from Rubik cubes, Pac-Man video games, posters of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jackson, Mithunda, Rishi Kapoor from Karz, Tom Cruise in Top Gun,...

Colorful pillars, pots and drums, dancers in jhatak 80s style dresses… it really was a place full of jhatkas and matkas (pun intended!). On the sets of Himmatwala, BollySpice was present to watch the shoot of one of the most iconic songs of yesteryear – ‘Tathaiya Tathaiya’. Present were Sajid Khan (who is directing this remake), Ajay Devgn in a white jacket (well, you can’t have a Jeetendra song without white, can you!) and the extremely gorgeous Tamannaah with whom we had a tete-a-tete.
While Farah Khan, who is choreographing this song, was busy with the side dancers, we managed to catch hold of the stars as they took a break. One would have thought that they might be apprehensive about stepping into the huge shoes of Jeetendra and Sridevi but both the lead actors are confident that the audience would accept them on their own strength without any comparisons.

One film old in Bollywood, Tamannaah is already acquiring quite a controversial reputation. Even before she signed on to play Sridevi's role in Sajid Khan's remake of Himmatwala, the actress got into a verbal scuffle with producer Salim who demanded her mound of money as per an agreement that he alleged to have signed with the actress regarding her earnings while launching her in Chand Sa Roshan Chehra.
In a conversation with this writer some time ago, Tamannaah had dismissed all of producer Salim's claims as a regular part of any successful individual's past baggage.
She would find it harder to explain her departure from producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sabir Khan's project Heropanti, launching Jackie Shroff's son Tiger. A month ago she was "finalized" for the project.
Now she is no more a part of it. While publicly the entire team is quiet about it,...

Ajay Devgn may be fighting a battle for his Son of Sardaar but as far as his next release Himmatwala is concerned, his friend and director Sajid Khan is ensuring that there is nothing but the best that comes his way. This was evidenced last week when Amit Kumar, son of legendary Kishore Kumar, was brought on board to recreate the late singer's chartbuster track 'Naino Mein Sapna'. "Since the makers already had right of the song, they could have anyways gone with it as is. However, Sajid felt that it would be a good idea to recreate the era gone by with a similar voice. He was sure though that the singer who was roped in ought to have a similar voice stem as Kishoreda. After much deliberation, the idea struck to have his son Amit himself coming being mike. After all, the very DNA is reason enough to...
