George Kay looks conflicted. Speaking to Deadline before the resolution of the writers strike, the British WGA member had put down his pen on an Amazon Studios movie project and ducked a U.S. publicity round for his Apple TV+ series Hijack. But it’s fair to say that the strikes coincided with Kay having a serious moment.
Not unlike the protagonist in Hijack, Idris Elba’s brooding professional negotiator Sam Nelson, Kay has spent years maneuvering his way between three complex projects for Apple, Netflix and ITV/Sundance—only for them all to launch within four months of each other.
Just like Nelson’s character in Hijack—“He gets brought in, by big companies…when it all kicks off,” Nelson’s wife explains to a police officer in the show—Kay’s the man you bring in when you want to deliver a character-led thriller that will keep viewers hooked over several episodes.

One little film sparked a lot of sizzle and excitement on Riverdale Season 7 Episode 16. Practically all the teens were jumping over themselves for the wonders of Polly Amorous.
It's another '50s-inspired chapter in the sleepy town of Riverdale.
Through all the misadventures, character development came out as the brightest spot. And a slap that left us all speechless!
"Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Three: Stag" continued Riverdale Season 7's trend of exploring sexuality in the ultra-innocent world of Riverdale 1955.
It's not the first time this theme has been tackled. Let's not forget the sexuality book of Riverdale Season 7 Episode 3 or Betty's salacious fantasies on Riverdale Season 7 Episode 9. Riverdale has already ripped the bandage off and explored the territory.
For another chapter to explore sexuality and the characters not knowing how to react to it, this story felt like a retread.
We're 16 episodes into the final season; a "fish out of water...

Salem, Massachusetts brews up more Halloween activities than you can shake a broom at each October, so it was logical for Salem Horror Fest to take place during the spookiest month of the year. For its sixth installment, however, the festivities have moved to the spring, making it much easier to attend without throngs of tourists.
If last night’s opening night ceremony — headlined by a screening of Candyman with Tony Todd in attendance — is any indication, horror lovers will show up any time of the year. Held at the Peabody Essex Museum, the event kicked off with poignagnt opening remarks by festival director Kay Lynch. She briefly outlined the evolution of Salem Horror, which was born out of her desire for catharsis after the 2016 election.
With folk horror being a common theme among some of this year’s programming, Kier-La Janisse was enlisted to deliver a keynote address. Much like how her essential documentary,...

Melvins will reinterpret their own catalog and showcase some new covers on the grunge giant’s massive new Five Legged Dog, a 36-track LP that doubles as the group’s first-ever acoustic album.
“I knew I wanted to do something ridiculously big. Thirty-six songs reimagined by us acoustically is certainly ridiculous but it works! The magic of the songs is still there regardless of it being acoustic,” Buzz Osbourne said in a statement of the pandemic-recorded album.
“Since we weren’t touring we had the time to do something of this size.

Hugh Hefner has amassed 2,900 personal scrapbooks over the years – which not only constitutes a Guinness World Record, but helped form much of the basis for Amazon Prime’s new docu-series “American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story.”
The 10-part series also combs through thousands of hours of footage from Hefner’s and Playboy’s archives to tell the story of the entrepreneur, starting with the launch of Playboy magazine in 1953. From there, “American Playboy” shines a particular light on Hefner’s advocacy for civil rights, gay rights, freedom of speech and sexual freedom.

New York — Ben Gazzara, whose powerful dramatic performances brought an intensity to a variety of roles and made him a memorable presence in such iconic productions over the decades as the original "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" on Broadway and the film "The Big Lebowski," has died at age 81.
Longtime family friend Suzanne Mados said Gazzara died Friday in Manhattan. Mados, who owned the Wyndham Hotel, where celebrities such as Peter Falk and Martin Sheen stayed, said he died after being placed in hospice care for cancer. She and her husband helped marry Gazzara and his wife, German-born Elke Krivat, at their hotel.
Gazzara was a proponent of method acting, in which the performer attempts to take on the thoughts and emotions of the character he's playing, and it helped him achieve stardom early in his career with two stirring Broadway performances.
In 1955, he originated the role of Brick Pollitt,...

Cocaine. I think the "you" in the title is cocaine. Magnolia Pictures has passed along the red band trailer for the Mark Pellington-directed (Arlington Road, Henry Poole Is Here) I Melt With You. From the look of the trailer, the mid-life crisis ensemble drama is some kind of mash up of The Big Chill and Stag. Or Very Bad Things if you prefer Christian Slater to Mario Van Peebles. Either way, it's middle-class to rich white guys lamenting the dead ends of their lives in drug-o-vision, and I think I might have to sit this one out. Alright, that's not even being close to fair--but there's something off-putting about the combination of the music and the cast of actors looking sad about growing older...
