We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto. Only instead of wicked witches, the scary monsters in the universe of “Godzilla: King of Monsters” are “Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Oh my.”
That’s not the only “Wizard of Oz” reference in the latest and final trailer for “King of Monsters,” which features a melancholic and soaring version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” atop of all the glorious carnage and jaw-dropping visuals for the biggest kaiju battle yet.
The trailer opens with Thomas Middleditch explaining that we’re seeing the rise of Titans, 17 massive, mythical creatures in all. Each one is seeking out an “alpha,” or in this case Ghidorah, leaving untold destruction behind in their battles. The heroes are then forced to awake Godzilla as Earth’s only hope to defeat Ghidorah.
