Tierpark Berlin just got one adorable new attraction!
On Thursday, a polar bear named Tonja at the German animal park gave birth to a baby cub — and her labor and first few moments with the new addition were caught on camera and released on Tierpark Berlin’s YouTube page.
The still-unnamed baby polar bear — who is only about 30 centimeters long and, like all polar bears, came into the world deaf and blind — has since been seen nuzzling up to his mother.
The special occasion had extra significance for the 8-year-old mama bear, who lost a cub named Fritz just nine months earlier (The 3-month-old cub,...

Now that a record 92 countries have submitted foreign-language Oscar contenders, the Academy has to figure out what to do with them. Screening and ranking that many films is a challenging process, and Mark Johnson, chairman of the Academy’s foreign-language committee, know that it’s time for an overhaul.
“Ninety-two is a scary number,” said Johnson. “It keeps going up every year. I think it’s imminent that we will make some radical changes on how we whittle these down. I remember it was not that long ago that I would see 60 movies, that was the bulk out of 80. Now, we’ll see.”
Johnson is working on the problem with the Academy’s erudite new president, cinematographer John Bailey, who once argued rigorously in favor of Bela Tarr’s black-and-white masterpiece “The Turin Horse.”

Under the First Steps moniker, the six-piece range includes a soft soccer ball that plays music in addition to several other developmental playthings.
Shakira stated, “When it comes to baby’s development, the early years are the most important. Each play experience is an opportunity for baby to learn about the world around them.”
Additionally, the “Hips Don’t Lie” songstress has a new 12-part web series on her adventures in motherhood on the way. “Having a baby helps you focus on what’s really important. By playing, we learn so much about our baby and ourselves.”
