Mickey Guyton has released the title track of her upcoming debut album. “Remember Her Name,” written by Guyton with Parker Welling, Blake Hubbard, and Jarrod Ingram, is a sharp slice of power-pop country with an empowering message that dovetails with Guyton’s own experience in Nashville.
“Remember her laughing through all the pain/remember the girl who didn’t let anything get in her way,” she sings.
Pulsing drum sounds and bird-call guitar tones frame Guyton’s dynamic voice, which she flexes throughout the track. Near song’s end, she hits a particularly dramatic,...

Florida Georgia Line member Brian Kelley’s plan to bring a country-music musical to life as a legit stage production is now extending to a movie version that is being developed simultaneously.
Kelley and his partners announced not just a film iteration of “May We All” — whose planned staging has been put off due to the pandemic — but the director who’s been tapped for a movie version: Andy Fickman, whose credits include directing and exec-producing CBS’ TV series “Kevin Can Wait” as well as a number of feature films and stage productions.
The stage version, announced in Variety in 2019, was set for a developmental production at Memphis’ Playhouse in the Square in fall 2020, to have been followed by an official Nashville premiere in 2021. As lockdowns have pushed any of these stage debuts further back, producers decided to move up a film adaptation.

We thought Luke Combs, The Chicks and The Highwomen would be among top contenders to win 2021 Grammys in the country field, but the recording academy thought differently. The Highwomen only received one nomination, while Combs and The Chicks were shut out entirely. So who will capitalize on their absences? Let’s break down the four categories.
SEELuke James on his Grammy nomination for ‘To Feel Love/d’ and why this album felt like his ’emancipation’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Best Country Solo Performance
This category is a little tricky. At first glance, the obvious winner would be “Bluebird” by Miranda Lambert. It’s by far the biggest hit nominated, Lambert is a past Grammy winner and respected in the industry, and the song also got a Best Country Song nomination. However, looking at past category winners, the biggest hit doesn’t really win that often. More often, this category goes to passion picks, like...

Ingrid Andress and Miranda Lambert lead all country music artists at the 2021 Grammy Awards with three nominations each. Andress earned nominations in the Best Country Album and Best Country Song categories, as well as an all-genre nomination for Best New Artist. Lambert’s three noms include Country Album, Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance.
Andress, a Colorado-raised songwriter, garners her country nominations on the strength of her debut single “More Hearts Than Mine” and her subsequent debut album, Lady Like. In May, the LP became the highest streamed country debut album by a woman.

The Academy of Country Music Awards are filling in the few missing pieces in a show next week that’s already heavy with previously announced performances, adding numbers by Carrie Underwood and the on-and-offstage duo of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
Last year, in her final year as co-host of the CMAs, the other big country awards show, Underwood took part in an all-star opening salute to the great women of country. She’ll pay homage to the female trailblazers of the genre again this year at the ACMs — but handle the medley on her own this time. Her performance, which is being billed as in honor of the 95th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry, will consist of classic songs associated with Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and Barbara Mandrell.
Shelton and Stefani will sing their recent collaboration “Happy Anywhere,” released in July as a followup to their No.
