The 2022 Grammy Awards broadcast wrapped up with an upset victory of sorts, with Jon Batiste beating out the likes of Taylor Swift and Kanye west to take home Album of the Year for his excellent “We Are.”

That was his fifth win of the night, following four wins during the “Premiere Ceremony,” where all of the awards not deemed cool enough for television were handed out, hosted by the always wonderful Levar Burton.

Batiste also accomplished a rather ignominious milestone for the Grammy Awards themselves: He’s the first Black artist to win Album of the Year since Herbie Hancock back in 2008. You read that right: It’s literally been 14 years and 3 presidents since the Academy recognized the work of Black artists with this honor. And in case you’re wondering, the only nonwhite artist to win Best Album during that time was Bruno Mars in 2018.

If you weren’t paying attention yesterday when the Grammy Award nominations were announced, something interesting happened. Sure, Beyoncé led the nominations, with Taylor Swift not far behind, but movie fans might have noticed an interesting nomination. It was Billie Eilish getting nominated for her No Time to Die song, from the upcoming James Bond flick. What makes it so interesting is that the Grammy Awards will be given out before the film gets released, so hypothetically it could already be an award winner. Beyoncé led the field with nine nominations for the 63rd Grammy Awards, which were announced Tuesday morning by the Recording Academy.

Beyoncé, who has 24 Grammy wins in her career, scored a nom in the marquee Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories for “Black Parade” and “Savage” with Megan Thee Stallion, joined by Taylor Swift, last year’s runaway winner Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Post Malone and Black Pumas with multiple noms in the General Field categories.

Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion also received multiple noms, and both will face off in the Best New Artist category with Phoebe Bridgers, Ingrid Andress, Chika, Noah Cyrus, D Smoke and Kaytranada.

Other notables include Justin Bieber in the Pop categories and Fiona Apple in the Rock and Alternative categories, and DaBaby in Rap.

A total of 84 categories were unveiled this morning to honor the year’s best in music.

The nominations for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards were revealed in a lifestream Tuesday. Beyoncé came out on top with nine nominations, followed by Taylor Swift, Roddy Ricch and Dua Lipa with six apiece. Brittany Howard, of Alabama Shakes fame, picked up a surprising five nods for her solo debut.

Among those picking up four nods: last year’s Grammy queen, Billie Eilish, along with Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, Justin Bieber, DaBaby, jazz musician John Beasley and classical composer David Frost. (One of the predicted leaders, The Weeknd, was shut out.)

The Latin Grammys have announced the latest performance lineup for the award show’s 2020 ceremony.

Current nominees Anuel AA, Calibre 50, Julio Reyes Copello, Alex Cuba, Guaynaa, Víctor Manuelle, Ricardo Montaner, Debi Nova, Raquel Sofía, and Sebastián Yatra join the previously announced performers Bad Bunny, Pedro Capó, Alejandro Fernández, Karol G, Kany García, Los Tigres del Norte, Marc Anthony, Christian Nodal, Fito Páez, and Nathy Peluso.

Broadcast virtually from different cities around the world, the 21st Annual Latin Grammys will take place on Thursday, November 19th, 2020, at 8:00 p.m.

The 2020 Latin Grammy Award nominations were unveiled on September 29 and it is a good day for J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Ozuna. The Paley Center for Media said that PaleyFest LA will go virtual for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic, setting its 2020 edition for August with a guest lineup for 10 series that includes Cate Blanchett, Justin Bieber and Dolly Parton and moderators including Stacey Abrams and Martha Raddatz. The event was originally scheduled to take place in mid-March at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The festival will be available to view by Citi cardmembers and Paley members beginning August 7, with panels available to the public August 10. All will be hosted on the Paley Center’s YouTube channel. Citi is an official sponsor of the event.

The Paley Center for Media’s annual PaleyFest television festival is joining the ever-growing list of events pivoting to virtual production amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the series taking part in this first-ever PaleyFest are YouTube’s “Justin Bieber: Seasons” (moderated by Variety‘s own Shirley Halperin), NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” FX on Hulu’s “Mrs. America,” Pop TV’s “One Day at a Time” and “Schitt’s Creek,” Starz’s “Outlander” and a trio of shows from Netflix: “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” “Ozark” and “Queer Eye.”

All panels will stream on the Paley Center’s YouTube channel, available first to Paley Center and Citi card members on Aug. 7 (Citi is the festival’s official sponsor), and then to the general public on Aug. 10. Notably, though, the “Schitt’s Creek” panel, will be a members-only event.

PaleyFest, like everything else in this world, is taking its lineup online: The annual event will host a virtual panel series in August, featuring Outlander, Schitt’s Creek and Ozark, among others.

All of the virtual discussions will be made available to the public via the Paley Center’s YouTube channel on Monday, Aug. 10, while Citi card members and Paley Center members will get an early viewing window starting Friday, Aug. 7 (as well as exclusive access to the Schitt’s Creek panel).
