Disney’s cost-cutting measures have reached to the top echelons of the company: Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, chairman of Marvel Entertainment, has been laid off, as his division — which is separate from Marvel Studios — is absorbed into other units of Disney.
Along with Perlmutter, Marvel Entertainment’s co-president, Rob Steffens, and chief counsel, John Turitzin, were also dismissed.
A Disney spokesperson confirmed the departures to Variety.
The 80-year-old Perlmutter was at the center of activist investor Nelson Peltz’s months-long fight to join the Disney board. Variety reported in February that Perlmutter’s backing of Peltz was due at least in part to CEO Bob Iger’s decision to sever Perlmutter’s control of Marvel Studios in 2015, which reduced Marvel Entertainment to not much more than consumer products. Peltz ended his proxy battle in February after Iger announced his plan to reduce costs by $5.5 billion, which included reducing the workforce by 7,000 employees,...

A Disney spokesperson has confirmed to Deadline that Ike Perlmutter is out at the company. Note, Permutter oversaw the consumer products division of Marvel, and isn’t part of the Kevin Feige-led Marvel Studios.
Perlmutter’s departure comes amid Disney cutting 7K jobs in a massive overhaul of its employee corps that’s part of $5.5 billion cost-cutting manuever to position the Mouse House even more for the streaming obsessed entertainment era. Permutter’s Marvel Entertainment will be folded into other parts of the Disney corporate umbrella. Perlmutter’s oversight included comic book publishing (which reportedly earns $40M-$60M annually), as well as game licensing and arena shows.
Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment, will stay in place and report to Feige, president of Marvel Studios. Buckley previously reported to Feige and Perlmutter.

Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, chairman of Marvel Entertainment, has been laid off at Disney. Marvel Entertainment will be folded into the larger Disney business units, a Disney spokesperson confirmed.
The move comes as Disney looks to eliminate 7,000 jobs in multiple rounds of layoffs that kicked off this week, in what CEO Bob Iger calls part of a “strategic realignment.”
Rob Grosser, a longtime third-party Marvel security consultant who is also considered to be Perlmutter’s fixer, is also out, according to two insiders with knowledge of the situation. In addition, Disney has terminated the employment of Rob Steffens, who served as co-president of Marvel Entertainment, and John Turitzin, who held the position of chief counsel for the same division.

Marvel mogul Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter is out at Disney.
The billionaire, who sold the comic book giant Marvel to Disney in 2009, was told Wednesday that Disney is folding his Marvel Entertainment unit into other pats of the company and that he would be let go. Marvel Entertainment is focused mostly on consumer products and is not part of the lucrative Marvel Studios division led by Kevin Feige.
Rob Steffens, the co-president of Marvel Entertainment, was also let go.
The New York Times first reported Perlmutter’s departure.
Known for being reclusive and frugal, Perlmutter acquired Marvel in 1998 via a toy company he controlled. A little more than a decade later, he helped orchestrate the sale to Disney, which was led by Iger, for $4 billion. Disney agreed to continue employing him as chairman of Marvel.

Iron Man is flying to China after Disney subsidiary Marvel announced that the metallic Avenger's next stand-alone adventure will be co-produced by Chinese company Dmg Entertainment.
The move will see stars Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle film part of the franchise's third outing in the far east. Dmg will invest at least 1bn yuan (£99m) in Iron Man 3, according to Business Week. It will also help to distribute the film domestically.
"This signifies the first multibillion-dollar franchise to be produced between Hollywood and China," said Dan Mintz, head of Dmg Entertainment. He described the collaboration as a "milestone" in global entertainment. Marvel has issued a press release regarding Shane Black’s upcoming Iron Man 3 in which they’ve announced that the third film in the Iron Man franchise will be co-produced in China under a joint agreement between Walt Disney Co, Marvel Studios and Dmg Entertainment. In doing so, Marvel has also confirmed that a good portion of filming will indeed take place in China in addition to the United States.
Fans have already begun to speculate that this recent announcement means that an appearance from the Mandarin is that much closer to becoming a reality. Rumors of the Mandarin making an entrance in the third movie intensified last week as Ben Kingsley was reported to have been in talks with the studio to portray an unnamed villain in the next chapter. There’s no denying that the villain would be right at home in The Middle Kingdom.

I hear Marvel is fine with this move to Legendary Entertainment. Tim Connors has been there from the beginning but “it was time for him to move on,” an insider tells me. I’ve just learned exclusively that taking his place at Marvel Studios will be David Galluzzi whow as recently promoted to chief counsel and now will be assuming Connors’ business affairs role, too. And the remainder of Connors’ duties will be assumed by Rob Steffens who is Evp Of Operations And Planning for Marvel Entertainment and is General Manager of Operations And Finance for Marvel Studios. This move bolsters Steffens’ role at Disney where I hear he’s well-liked and being groomed for bigger things. None of this is in the Legendary press release below: Burbank, CA, February 9, 2012 – Legendary Entertainment has appointed Tim Connors to the role of Chief Operating Officer for the company, it was announced today...

Remember when we were told that Disney wouldn't really touch Marvel and the way they did things? According to Deadline after the acquisition took place Marvel Studios Evp Operations Rob Steffens met with "all of the departments at the Manhattan Beach offices in what was described as a “Disney Rules of the Road” meeting. He told staff that there would be no house-cleaning by the mouse, period, so they were not to fear for their jobs and flee en masse." Well, that was a lie. It looks like the people at Marvel can start fearing for their jobs now.
Disney recently fired Evp of Worldwide Marketing for Marvel’s La Studios, Dana Precious, as well as Jodi Miller, Manager of Worldwide Marketing. Disney will now be taking over the department and put their Marketing team in control of all the Marvel films that are made. Captain America was the last...

Exclusive: Everybody is trying to keep this secret. But I’ve learned that yesterday Disney canned Dana Precious, Evp of Worldwide Marketing for Marvel’s La Studios (she had replaced Doug Finberg at the end of last summer); Jeffrey Stewart, VP of Worldwide Marketing (he’d been brought in by Dana); and Jodi Miller, Manager of Worldwide Marketing. That’s essentially Marvel’s entire marketing department. Marvel redundant jobs were on the line ever since Disney bought the publisher/studio in 2009. And the marketing department even more so this summer after Paramount released Thor and Captain America domestically and internationally, thus effectively ending that studio’s marketing and distribution of Marvel pictures. I’m told that on June 24th, Rob Steffens, who is Marvel Studios’ Evp Operations, met with all of the department at the Manhattan Beach offices in what was described as a “Disney Rules of the Road” meeting.
