George Clooney is rejecting the apology of the Daily Mail for what he says was inciting religious hatred over his upcoming wedding. Why is the affable Clooney taking such a hard line? Because he says they know they’re lying about how the article happened. “The coverup is always worse. In this case, the Daily Mail has printed an apology for insinuating religious tensions where there are none. In the apology, managing editor Charles Garside claims that the article was ‘not a fabrication,’ but ‘based the story on conversations with senior members of the Lebanese community.’ The problem is that none of that is true. The original story never cites that source, but instead goes out of its way to insist on four different occasions that “a family friend” spoke directly to the Mail.

Ansel Elgort is a busy man. Not only is he being tapped to play Van Cliburn, he’s now on the shortlist for the lead in the remake of WarGames, in the Matthew Broderick role. I’m not sure that this is a movie that needs to be remade, but I can see him stepping into Broderick’s role quite easily.
I hate buying blades for my razors. Why do they cost so much? And you need a couple at a time, one for your face, and one for…other places. And why do some last months and others last three days? At $4/each, you’d think we could get some quality control. This hack supposedly makes them last months and months though.

Stripper robbery, our complicated relationship with porn stars, Jimmy Kimmel asks if people have ever had a threesome
An armed thief tried to steal the costumes for the sexy male revue Thunder From Down Under, firing a .357 at a dancer but missing. The other dancers quickly subdued him, giving him a black eye before authorities arrived. This begs several questions. Why try to steal stripper wardrobes? Is there a market? Is attacking massive muscular men ever smart? How do you get a .357 into a casino?
The House is taking a break from trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act and not voting on Enda to try and pass a bill that would strip the office of the president from creating new national parks without the approval of Congress…and environmental studies. So they want more environmental studies on the creation of national parklands than they do on the Keystone Pipeline.

Just hearing about it in my old days in New York in the mid-‘70s, you know that was a huge deal. That’s where Bette Midler started and that whole scene! My gay friends would be off to Sunday Tea, and then roll in at 9 the next morning after the bathhouse. But that was about as close as I ever got. Asking an athlete to go somewhere and compete and be a representative of that philosophy and all the different crap that kind of goes along with it and then telling them they can’t tell them they express their views or they can’t say what they believe is pretty hypocritical and unfair.

Our NewNowNext SexPert Conner Habib is writing for Vice now, and in his first column he reviews the Kirk Cameron movie Unstoppable, where Kirk whines about how Hollywood is trying to silence Christians. It’s a funny read, and Conner stresses he has no problem with faith, just how faith is presented here, which he sums up as “Unstoppable is the full frontal display of an egomaniac who has somehow found his way into a position of power.”
Guido Barilla is apologizing again for the comments he made about gay families. I know he’s mostly just in damage control, as his rivals have taken the opportunity to shout their support for gay families and the world is calling for a boycott, but he’s taking the standard steps that GLAAD proscribes for foot in mouth syndrome.

Dustin Lance Black’s comments about the Ender’s Game boycott were a little more extensive than I originally reported. “”There’s so much good to be done right now. Boycotting a movie made by 99% Lgbt equality folks in an Lgbt equality industry is a waste of our collective energy. Making one phone call to a relative in the South who isn’t quite there yet would be 1,000 times more effective [than this boycott." Can't we do both? Black then added "The homophobic novelist who wrote the book hasn't been involved in decades. Misguided boycott." How wrong that statement is, and so short sighted, given the money that will flow to Card through the movie and increased sales of his books.
Major League Baseball is set to reveal additional protections for potential out players in the league, including training classes, a workplace code of conduct to be distributed to every player, and a centralized reporting system for issues. The plan is to launch the program with the beginning of All-Stars week today.

I really liked Scandal in the first season, but it dropped off my radar, which is evidently a bad thing, because things have been tense between gay power couple Cyrus and James, to the point of Cyrus putting out a hit on his husband. They're back this week after a 10-month time jump, and the relationship is rocky. "On the one hand, there’s something unbelievably normal about their working-couple marriage, and it’s irrelevant that we’re both men. On the other hand, we’ve certainly been pushed to limits that not every couple in America’s had to deal with. Whether testifying against your spouse or lying under oath to protect your spouse, those are things that are pretty heightened."

Bill Clinton may have signed Doma when he was president, but he's adamant that it needs to be overturned. He admits it was a different time, but also that signing it wasn't something he wanted to do, but felt necessary to head off a constitutional amendment against marriage equality. "When I signed the bill, I included a statement with the admonition that 'enactment of this legislation should not, despite the fierce and at times divisive rhetoric surrounding it, be understood to provide an excuse for discrimination.' Reading those words today, I know now that, even worse than providing an excuse for discrimination, the law is itself discriminatory. It should be overturned."

Could the latest backlash against Orson Scott Card and DC Comics turn out to be a problem for Ender's Game? People involved with the film say no. “Orson's politics are not reflective of the moviemakers. We’re adapting a work, not a person. The work will stand on its own.” Still rival studio executives think that you can't bring Card out to major events like Comic-Con without sinking the movie. “I don't think you take him to any fanboy event. This will definitely take away from their creative and their property."
