With creator Sam Levinson still working on scripts for the upcoming third season of HBO’s Euphoria, filming plans have been temporarily put on hold, with the cast given permission to take other acting jobs in the interim.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” the network said in a statement to Deadline. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
According to sources, there had been no firm production start date for Season 3 but filming was expected to begin within the next couple of months.

Colman Domingo explains why Euphoria Season 3 has been delayed, with the HBO show last airing in February 2022.
In a new interview, Domingo opened up about why the series that stars Zendaya has been pushed back and said it had to do with creator Sam Levinson adjusting the story to reflect the real world.
“[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” Domingo told GQ in an interview recently. “He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

Exclusive: The Israeli producers and writers guilds have been in talks with Series Mania bosses after the festival’s chief said it was “impossible” for a show from the country to be included in its official selection this year.
Sources from the Israeli sector reacted with alarm and contacted Deadline after reading the quote from Laurence Herszberg. Since then, we understand the Israeli Producers Association (Ipa) and Screenwriters Guild of Israel have sought clarification, after a local Israeli news site reported that Israeli broadcasters and producers had, in fact, submitted numerous shows.
The issue began when, unveiling the competition participants earlier this week, Herszberg claimed that “in Israel, many ongoing projects were shut down, making it impossible for Series Mania to include an Israeli production” for the first time in the fest’s history. She added that the festival had been affected by “several international crises” including the Israel-Hamas War and Russo-Ukrainian War.

Euphoria fans are going to have to wait a little longer for the third season of the teen drama.
HBO chief Casey Bloys said Thursday at a presentation in New York City that the Sam Levinson drama won’t return until 2025. The same news was shared about the return of The Last of Us.
In an August interview with Elle, Levinson described Season 3 as a “film noir” and teased that Zendaya‘s character of a recovering addict would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
Euphoria is set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, who seek hope while balancing the strains of love, loss, and addiction. The series is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.
The third season of the series has been delayed and the forthcoming season will inevitably have some major changes.

The Screenwriters Guild of Israel (Sgi) has slammed the WGA for its silence over the conflict raging in the nation.
Sgi Chair Nadav Ben Simon is understood to have contacted the guild’s 600-strong member base yesterday with a statement, which has also been posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The statement, which can be read in full below, blasts the WGA for failing to “find in their hearts enough courage to speak out against a terrorist organization that is currently holding 200 hostages, some of them toddlers and babies, snatched from their cribs as their mothers were raped in the same room in front of their eyes.”
“Your silence is considered a stand,” adds the statement. “It is a shame that a professional writers’ guild cannot reach a consensus and find the words to condemn an act of terrorism, an act of unprovoked crime against humanity, against innocent civilians, women, children,...

Bye-bye, Peak TV. After more than a decade of unprecedented production growth, the international television industry is bracing for an era of tighter budgets and more bean counting.
“Instead of subscriber growth at all costs, now the focus is on production and investment and getting the balance sheet right,” says Cathy Payne, CEO of Banijay Rights, the sales arm of the production giant behind reality TV hits Big Brother and high-end dramas Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror. “I hate using the phrase because everyone says it, but the focus now is on ‘fewer, better, bigger shows.’ ”
The variety of shows on offer at this year’s global TV market in Cannes, MIPCOM, suggests every buyer, at every budget, should find something to fill their slots. And while THR’s annual hot list of the market’s best new drama series ranges from a by-the-book NBC procedural to an erotic comedy...

Euphoria executive producer Ron Leshem flew into Spain this week and recalled how Hollywood had initially turned down the HBO hit over concerns about teenage lead characters.
In a panel at Madrid’s Iberseries & Platino Industria (Ipi) today focused on content for Gen Z, Leshem said both Euphoria and the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things hit the same roadblock, as networks initially fretted over the idea of teenagers leading a series that wasn’t specifically a teen drama.
“Everyone told us we needed to be more like Skins,” he said, referencing the influential British drama from Channel 4 that set Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Dev Patel, Joe Dempsie and Hannah Murray on the road to stardom.
“We didn’t want to do Skins. We wanted to stand out and do something different,” said Leshem, who eventually sold Euphoria to HBO alongside co-creator Sam Levinson. “Artistically, we wanted to do Trainspotting meets...

Exclusive: Euphoria creator Ron Leshem has shared the intriguing story behind buzzy Israeli drama Bad Boy, the first international co-production backed by Peter Chernin’s North Road.
Unveiled in March for Israeli network Hot, at which point it was described by Leshem as “the next Euphoria,” Bad Boy follows Dean, who is imprisoned in a cruel juvenile detention facility and bonds with Zoro, a grim and mysterious teenage prisoner serving time for murder. Dean learns to harness his unique intelligence and, 20 years later, these traits define him as a star comedian, while his time in jail is a secret threatening to resurface and tear his life apart.
Only six months passed between the show’s announcement and today’s TIFF premiere but Leshem said Bad Boy has been two decades in the making, harking back to his time as an investigative journalist when he was assigned to a story in a juvenile prison.

Exclusive: Sipur, the Israeli studio behind North Road-backed Bad Boy and award-winning doc series The Devil’s Confession, has struck a multi-year deal with local network Reshet13.
The pair will co-finance and co-produce Israeli scripted shows, documentary series and formats with potential for the global market, coming from a nation that has traditionally punched above its weight when it comes to exporting TV.
Run by Emilio Schenker, Sipur already has a similar deal in place with MGM, which was renewed in 2022. With investment in local Israeli content “shrinking,” Sipur and Reshet said the new deal will allow a “long-term path to screen” for projects.
Schenker added: “This deal provides us with a long-term launchpad for new international co-productions. We couldn’t be more pleased than to be in business with the talented teams at Reshet13 on this strategy, which we have been successfully implementing both inside and outside of Israel.

Los Angeles, June 19 (Ians) The Israeli espionage thriller ‘Trust No One’ is set to have its world premiere at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
It marries the pedigree and primetime polish of past series like ‘Traitor’ and ‘Valley of Tears’ with techno-anxieties tied to the here-and-now, specifically with regard to the security state and modern cyber warfare, reports Variety.
“Israel has become one of the largest global exporters of spy ware,” said co-creator Daniel Amsel. “Only, those technological weapons can undermine democracy and lead to the death of truth. So we wanted to thread those very sensitive topics into an entertaining and fast-paced thriller that deals with the loneliness of leadership and the difficulties of parenthood, among other themes.”
As per Variety, created by Amsel alongside Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen, directed by Ofir Lobel, and distributed by Keshet International, the nine-part drama follows Itamar, the youngest ever head of Israel...

Running the Monte-Carlo Television Festival since 2012, Laurent Puons has always tried to look ahead. From his embrace of streamers and digital platforms back in 2017 to his growing emphasis on diverse formats, the festival director sees his summer showcase as a bellwether event for the wider television industry – and what the industry could use right now, in Puons’ view, is flexibility.
“There are already so many festivals today dedicated to series,” Puons explains. “But Monte-Carlo follows a wholly different concept. We’re a home for all kinds of content, and one of the only festivals with both fiction and factual competitions. And when you see what’s broadcast on platforms like Netflix and Amazon, [you need to cover that full range.]”
This year’s edition runs June 16 – 20 and is set to welcome 10,000 attendees and host 1,500 interviews, altogether reflecting Monte-Carlo’s wider aim to offer global partners a full service festival stopover.

Cannes — Burgeoning Israeli film-tv studio Sipur and cable channel Hot, behind the original versions of “In Treatment” and “Euphoria,” are introducing at MipTV “Everybody Loves…,” a new global dating reality format.
The news comes just days after France’s Mediawan Rights has pounced on international distribution of another Sipur format, “Hungry for Love,” and partners Sipur and MGM’s winning five Israeli Emmy Awards for chilling doc series “The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes.”
Tel Aviv-based Sipur has also moved into post on “Bad Boy,” a scripted series from Ron Leshem, creator of the original Israeli “Euphoria” and an exec producer on its U.S version.
All these moves mark further signs of growth at Sipur, driven by CEO Emilio Schenker. Formerly Tadmor Entertainment until its rebranding last July, it is quickly emerging as one of Israel’s fastest-growing film-tv studios, playing off unique international relationships, led by a first-look production-distribution deal with MGM,...

Berlinale Series, established in 2015, keeps offering new shows proper cinema treatment. But it’s not just about that “dark room and the level of concentration you hardly get when you sit on a sofa,” explains head of the event Julia Fidel, noting a surge in stories with a “reasonable” budget.
“We want to screen very different episodic narrative styles from any country in the world. There is this expectation of showcasing ‘blockbuster’ series, which we also include, but the real benefit of [having] a series section at a major festival are the discoveries.”
Such as Market Selects’ Israeli offering “Traitor.” “If the story is outstanding and the characters relatable, the language doesn’t matter,” state showrunners Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen.
“Good shows have to be meaningful,” states Cristina Iliescu, creator- director of Co-Pro Series title “Export Only,” the first foray into series by “Bad Luck Banging” producer Ada Solomon.
