Ghost Team One is kind of like if the folks from Mystery Team made a found footage horror comedy. Two stoners attempt to make contact with the dead in hopes of hooking up with a girl who believes that their house is haunted.
With so many found footage films falling flat, it’s refreshing to see a different take on the subgenre that doesn’t take itself too seriously. One thing that’s promising is the fact that the laughs start right away instead of most found footage horror movies where nothing happens ever until the final reel. The directing team of Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford talked to Dread Central the other day from the oldest building in Los Angeles, the Avila Adobe building.
DC: Are you guys actually doing a press day at the Avila Adobe house right now? Any weird shit going on?
Ben Pyser: Yes we are.

Ghost Team One was released today to theaters, VOD, and digital outlets. We were recently given the opportunity to interview the movie’s co-directors, Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser, who told us about how they got together, improv acting on set, and more:
How did you two get together to co-direct Ghost Team One?
Scott Rutherford: We met at UCLA film school. I have been writing on Workaholics and Ben had been running his own commercial production company. Because of my Workaholics experience, Hernany Perla, who was the producer, brought me on. This was going to be such a speedy process and I knew I’d need a Dp that would be the whole package. Ben became the greatest choice possible because he’s an incredibly talented Dp, but he’s also worked as a director and producer. He’s a really funny guy and we make each other laugh.

How much of the film ended up being improv?
Ben Peyser: Everything is written so everything can be improvised. I wrote for a show called ‘Workaholic’ and that was sort of the model there. You would write and write and write till you had the scene down so you knew your jokes and you knew what had to be accomplished that way you knew the scene and when you got on set you could let these well accomplished actors just run wild because you knew...

Ghost Team One will receive a limited theatrical, VOD, and digital release this Friday and we have three clips for you to watch.
“Produced by Hernany Perla Films in association with Flying Monkeys Entertainment and Foresight Entertainment, Ghost Team One has drawn early raves from critics who have called the film “hilariously offensive and ludicrously endearing” (Indiewire) and “pure comedy gold” (Film Threat). In addition, Mark L. Miller of Aint It Cool News proclaimed, “It’s a film that will definitely show up on my Best Horror Film of the Year list.”
Ghost Team One follows two friends who are both trying to impress a girl who believes the spirit of a vengeful madam is haunting their home. They set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago and, much to their surprise, soon capture some terrifying—and uproarious—supernatural activity that...

Once upon a time, someone thought it would be funny to combine “Paranormal Activity” with the sort of humor found in such millennial-minded comedies as “Project X” and “Over 21.” If that sounds like your idea of an extremely good time, then you might want to watch the trailer for directors Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford’s “Ghost Team One.” It’s probably the sort of thing you’ve been after your entire life. All kidding aside, the documentary-style horror/comedy doesn’t look that bad. I mean, it’s probably not going to win any prestigious awards for cinematic excellence down the road, but the premise is kind of amusing. Kind of. Here’s hoping Peyser and Rutherford can make this paper-thin premise work as a feature-length film. A synopsis? Why not: The film follows two friends who are both trying to impress a girl who believes the spirit...

"Did you just bang a ghost?" There's been plenty of found footage horror in the form of Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism and The Devil Inside, but now some comedy gets injected into the horror subgenre with Ghost Team One. When two party guys find that their might be a ghost in their house, they recruit a sexy ghost hunter to help them figure out just what the hell is going on. And while ghosts are usually out for evil, this one seems to have more of a saucy agenda in haunting the house's inhabitants. This looks like a promising little indie horror comedy that could be a sleeper hit if it gets enough buzz. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Ben Peyser & Scott Rutherford's Ghost Team One, originally from Apple: When roommates Brad (J.R. Villarreal) and Sergio (Carlos Santos) accidentally arouse the dead, they team up with sexy amateur ghost hunter,...

The film was an official selection of Slamdance this year and stars Carlos Santos, J.R. Vilarreal, Tony Cavalero and Fernanda Romero. Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford direct. Here’s the synopsis:
In order to impress a girl, two roommates set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago. The girl thinks that the victim’s ghost still resides there, and the two guys think that making a movie with her will get them laid. But after setting cameras up around the house, the legitimately supernatural occurrences that follow make it apparent that the ghost is not only real, but that she’s a vengeful Vietnamese madame from the 1930’s that’s become smitten with our guys. Fresh off its premiere at Slamdance, horror comedy Ghost Team One, directed by Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford, has landed itself a worldwide distribution deal with Paramount Home Media Distribution.
Ghost Team One, which was produced by Flying Monkeys Entertainment and Foresight Entertainment, follows a pair of roommates who, after falling for a girl who believes their house is haunted by a vengeful madame, set out to make a documentary that ultimately uncovers not just a decades-old murder but a ghost that appears to be into them.
It’s certainly an original premise, with FilmThreat saying it “does for ghost films what Shaun of the Dead did for zombie films,” so color me intrigued. The film stars Carlos Santos, J.R. Villareal, Tony Cavalero, and Fernanda Romero and, if the stars align, might end up getting a theatrical release.
With luck this low-budget ghost story will help reinvigorate the dwindling found footage genre,...

If Sundance is the alternative film festival, Slamdance is the alternative to the alternative. We’re proud to be media sponsors for the festival, and to share a few filmmaking spotlights on the movies playing there this year. This second batch features some secret and educational recordings. A talk with directors Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser shows how they crafted Ghost Team One — a paranormal comedy where two things get weird in the spirit world after two guys chase after a beautiful woman. Plus, J.R. Hughto talks about his film Diamond on Vinyl, where a man is secretly recording private moments with his fiancee. Of course, she finds out. On the educational front, Cary McClelland brings his globe-trotting expertise to the cause of illuminating what’s going on in Pakistan with the film Without Shepherds. So let’s get uncomfortably close and dig deeper to learn more about these budding filmmakers: Ghost Team One Diamond on Vinyl...

The 19th annual Slamdance Film Festival, which runs in Park City January 18-24, boasts expanded narrative and documentary lineups and counts Christopher Nolan, Benh Zeitlin and Oren Peli as alums. So who might this year’s Slamdance heroes be? Below, five diverse titles to seek out at Slamdance 2013. “Ghost Team One”: Referencing “The Exorcist,” “Paranormal Activity” and an infamous shot from “The Silence of the Lambs,” Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser’s batshit skewering of the found-footage horror genre manages to be hilariously offensive and ludicrously endearing. Brad and Sergio are two horny stoners who discover an ex-prostitute poltergeist slinking around their man cave. With the help of Fernanda, a hottie with a sixth sense who may be more malevolent than meets the eye, the duo set out to document their house’s lewdly spooky goings-on. Masturbation, paranormal sex-tivity, exploding heads and...

Slamdance is getting paranormal with the arrival of Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser's horror comedy Ghost Team One.In order to impress a girl, two roommates set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago. The girl thinks that the victim's ghost still resides there, and the two guys think that making a movie with her will get them laid. But after setting cameras up around the house, the legitimately supernatural occurrences that follow make it apparent that the ghost is not only real, but that she's a vengeful Vietnamese madame from the 1930's that's become smitten with our guys.We shared the first stills from the film a few days back and those have now been followed with...

Ever wanna see Harold And Kumar in a blender with Paranormal Activity? Well, on January 20th and 24th, Ghost Team One, the found footage horror comedy is coming to Slamdance 2013. I haven’t seen it, but I’m still willing to guarantee that it’s better than the forthcoming Scary Movie 5. The film stars Carlos Santos, J.R. Villarreal, Fernanda Romero, and Tony Cavalero with Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser behind the camera. Here’s the synopsis, followed by some fresh stills in the gallery below:

The "found footage" is at a point now where we're starting to see comedic spins permeate the sub-genre. This Friday sees the release of A Haunted House and this month, at Slamdance, there's the debut of Ghost Team One from directors Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser.
The film, described as Harold and Kumar meets Paranormal Activity (which sounds like a Harold and Kumar sequel title in and of itself) and we've received a few images. Carlos Santos, J.R. Villarreal, Fernanda Romero and Tony Cavalero star.

While Sundance usually gets all the love, we'd be remiss if we didn't also focus on the horrific happenings taking place at this year's Slamdance 2013 Film Festival (January 18th to the 24th). The first two genre flicks have been announced, and we're sure there's more to come.
First up is Chad Crawford Kinkle’s Jug Face starring Lauren Ashley Carter, Sean Bridgers, Sean Young, Larry Fessenden, and Daniel Manche.
Jug Face tells the story of a teen, pregnant with her brother’s child, who tries to escape from a backwoods community when she discovers she must sacrifice herself to a creature in a pit. It was the grand prize winner of the 2011 Slamdance screenwriting competition.
Secondly we have directors Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford's flick Billy Chen Presents: Ghost Team One starring Carlos Santos, Fernanda Romero, J.R. Villarreal, Meghan Folcone, Tony Cavalero, James Babson, Scott MacArthur, and Craig Stott.
