Exclusive: Benjamin Zephaniah’s memoir Life and Rhymes is being developed into a TV series by Baby Cow and Timewasters creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor.
The project forms part of a funded development slate from Steve Coogan’s indie, unveiled by CEO Sarah Monteith to Deadline earlier this week, which also features shows about Margaret Thatcher and forensic scientist Patricia Wiltshire.
The Life and Rhymes of Benjamin Zephaniah tells the story of the celebrated poet, artist, activist and Peaky Blinders actor who was born into poverty and produced radical poetry that led him to perform in every continent of the world, meeting the likes of Nelson Mandela and The Wailers along the way.

Pixie Lott is to make her TV acting debut in BBC One's Inspector George Gently.
The '60s detective drama - starring Martin Shaw - will start shooting a new television film next month.
'Mama Do' singer Lott will play Megan, an entertainer at the Blue Bird Holiday Camp in 1969.
The popstar previously made her feature film debut in 2010, appearing in big-screen comedy Fred: The Movie.
"I love the fact that Inspector George Gently is a period drama set in the '60s and I can't wait to play the role of Megan," said Lott.
"It will be great to be filming in the North East, and getting to play a role that gives me a real feel for the period."
Series producer Matthew Bird added that the cast and crew were "delighted" to welcome Lott onto the show.

Start those engines, Logo fans, because the nominees for the network's NewNowNext Awards have been announced, according to Entertainment Weekly. The awards, airing April 11th, are a pretty nifty cross section of media, as you'll find buzzworthy games, twitter accounts, musicians, movies, and, most importantly of course, hotties that represent the best of 2010 and those with the potential to be the best in 2011. In the TV world, you had a mixture of critical darlings (Community, The Good Wife, Modern Family) and good ol' fashioned popcorn TV (Skins, The Game, Grey's Anatomy), which is refreshing to see. Sometimes awards shows can be too stagnant in who they nominate, so every bit of diversity we can get is a major plus.
