Rusty Nail returns this week in Joy Ride 3 and we caught up with the movie’s writer / director, Declan O’Brien, in the latest installment of our Q&A series. In this feature, Declan O’Brien tells us about working with Ken Kirzinger, the challenge of filming stunts centered around a moving truck, and his favorite moment on set:
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Declan. As a horror fan, what did you love about the first Joy Ride movies and Rusty Nail that made you want to take on a new entry in the series?
I’ve been a longtime fan of John Dahl’s work and of course J.J. Abrams so the opportunity to expand on their work was a real pleasure for me. I loved the idea of a killer truck driver with a warped sense of justice. It will make you think...

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings
Stars: Sean Skene, Blane Cypurda, Dan Skene, Jenny Pudavick, Tenika Davis, Kaitlyn Wong, Terra Vnesa, Victor Zinck Jr. | Written and Directed by Declan O’Brien
It’s 1974 and deep in the West Virginia wilderness, a family of inbred hillbilly cannibals are being held in an isolated asylum for the violent and mentally ill. The asylum soon becomes deserted when the inbred family escape and take sadistic and gratuitous revenge on their captors…. Decades later, a group of college students take a wrong turn and seek refuge in the now-abandoned asylum after a blizzard derails their plans for a weekend winter break. But when the students encounter the medical ward’s most frightening former patients, now fiendishly famished residents, their only choice is to fight back…or die trying.
I loved 2003′s Wrong Turn, helped in part by the appearance of Buffy co-star Eliza Dushku in the lead role.

Silent Night, the remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, is currently filming and we have some new behind-the-scenes photos and casting news. The Winnipeg Free Press was on the set recently and reported on who would be playing the killer in the movie:
“In the movie Silent Night, the killer dressed as Santa Claus inspires not visions of sugarplums, but something decidedly more nightmarish as he slices his way through the naughty citizenry of Cryer, Wisconsin. The Genre Company revealed that the role of the killer would be played by Winnipeg actor-stunt co-ordinator Rick Skene.
It’s a particularly delicious change-up for Skene, the son of former Free Press theatre critic Reg Skene. Rick was the stunt co-ordinator of the direct-to-dvd horror film Wrong Turn 4 in which his stuntman-actor sons Sean and Daniel Skene played two of the film’s three mutant cannibal villains, Three Finger and One Eye.

Director/writer: Declan O'Brien.
Cast: Dean Armstrong, Sean Skene, Jennifer Pudavick, Tenika Davis, and Blane Cypurda.
Director Declan O'Brien (Wrong Turn 3) again sets out to direct a Wrong Turn film. This time the title is Wrong Turn 4 or Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings. This third sequel is really a prequel as events take place before the first film in 1973. The disfigured cannibals One Eye (Dan Skene), Three Fingers and Saw-tooth (Scott Johnson) escape from a a sanitarium. Then their path of destruction is set, with some cozy campers coming by for a visit in 2003. They will not stay long, however. Before you know it Wrong Turn 4 has turned into an enjoyable horror feature that is unfortunately hampered with elements of predictability.
These three killers, mentioned above, appear in Wrong Turn 3; so, you know that they will be surviving this film. Only one question remains: how steep will the body count be?...

“We’ve got five more days, and we’ve switched to days and interiors so I can see the light,” Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings director Declan O’Brien told us of the production while on the set this past March 7, 2011, in the below-zero clime of then wintry Brandon, Canada. “We completed all of the exteriors already so it’s going to be a pleasure.”
Serving as a prequel to the 2003 Rob Schmidt-directed killer hillbilly flick that launched the franchise and written and directed by O’Brien (who returns to the franchise following his helming of Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead), this fourth entry not only serves to document the events that created the series’ rural cannibals but also presents the modern story of a group of wayward skiers who find themselves seeking refuge in an abandoned insane asylum during a blizzard.

The official trailer for the fourth entry in the Wrong Turn franchise, Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, has just found its way online, and we have it right here for your carnage-starved peepers.
As we've mentioned previously, Wrong Turn 4 serves as a bit of a prequel to the 2003 Rob Schmidt-directed killer hillbilly flick that launched the franchise and was written and directed by Declan O’Brien (who returns to the series following his helming of Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead). It follows a group of friends that decide to go snowmobiling during their winter break. They make a "wrong turn", getting lost in a storm, and seek shelter in an abandoned sanatorium. They are completely isolated by the storm and are thankful they can get out of the elements. But the sanatorium has a troubled past, and some of its former patients still reside there and are not happy about the intrusion.

Its October 18th direct-to-dvd release is still a few months away, but that's not stopping Fox Home Entertainment from doling out some goods for the upcoming Wrong Turn 4, now known as Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, including a new teaser poster and a badass unrated "franchise" trailer.
Below you'll find both the one-sheet and the trailer, which takes us down memory lane with a look back at the previous three installments and provides a sneak peek at the mayhem awaiting us in part four.

I suspect Fox Home Entertainment is thrilled with our honesty about the turn the Wrong Turn franchise has took, so they keep turning to anyone but us to present goodies from the upcoming direct-to-dvd release Wrong Turn 4 , which is carrying the subtitle "Bloody Beginnings." The gang at B-d scored the trailer. You'll have to head to this spot for a look at some teaser art. In the next chapter, once again directed by Declan O'Brien, is a prequel starring Jennifer Pudavick, Tenika Davis, Sean Skene, Daniel Skene and Scott Johnson.

On the heels of our May set visit to writer and director Declan O’Brien’s then-shooting feature Wrong Turn 4, the filmmaker touched base with us last Friday to give us an update on the flick’s post-production, which is being carried out in Vancouver, Canada.
“Things are going really well in the editing room,” O’Brien, who also helmed the films Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead and Sharktopus, told us of the fourth in the killer-hillbilly franchise, which is positioned for an October release via 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. “The movie is playing nicely, and I'm really pleased with all the practical FX. I did the CGI spot with the FX super, and he was shocked that there was so much practical and so little need for CG. That makes me really happy. I can't wait for people to see this movie.”

This past Monday, March 7, 2011, Dread hit the set of Fox's then-shooting Wrong Turn 4 in the below zero clime of wintry Brandon, Canada. Interviews with director Declan O’Brien, special fx artist Doug Morrow, and actors Sean Skene, Daniel Skene and Scotty Johnson are imminent, but for now here's an exclusive gallery of stills from the set as well as a first look at the film’s antagonists.
Wrong Turn 4 serves as a bit of a prequel to the 2003 Rob Schmidt-directed killer hillbilly flick which launched the franchise, and as written and directed by O’Brien (who returns to the franchise following his helming of Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead after directing Sharktopus in the interim), the fourth in the series not only serves to document the horrific events that created the franchise’s rural cannibals but also presents the modern story of a group of wayward skiers who...

In a good sign of things to come, the first folks cast in Fox's fourth Wrong Turn film are officially its inbred mutants! Hopefully this emphasis on killer over the meat for the beast roles carries over into the tone of the film. They are the reason we'll be watching after all.
I miss the days when the killers were the stars of the show. Still, I'm probably just reading into nothing at all, as a means to be hopeful. According to Winnipeg Free Press the role of "Three Finger" is being played by Sean Skene and "One Eye" is being played by his actor-brother Daniel Skene. Their father, Rick Skene, is the film’s stunt co-ordinator. Rounding out the killer trio is Winnipeg actor Scott Johnson as "Sawtooth."
Also cast are Jennifer Pudavick (Wishmaster III, Wishmaster IV, The Plague) as Kenia, a potential victim, and Tenika Davis.

After spinning the entire original concept of 'Wrong Turn' right out of the woods and slap-bang into the crazy house it seems the new Declan O'Brien ('Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead', 'Sharktopus') helmed follow-up 'Wrong Turn 4' is kicking off it's casting. Three Finger, One Eye and Sawtooth are back for another helping of human meat in Wrong Turn 4 . That's according to the Winnipeg Free Press, who spoke to a Fox publicist handling the production. But how can this be if some of the aforementioned mutants died in 2003's Wrong Turn ? Could we be seeing a prequel? Declan O'Brien is up in Canada now shooting the next entry in the franchise with Jennifer Pudavick and Tenika Davis starring. Sean Skene, Daniel Skene and Scott Johnson are the mutant killers this time. O'Brien shot Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead for Fox in 2009.

Declan O’Brien returns to directing in the Wrong Turn franchise with Wrong Turn 4 (here). 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced a few characters and the actors playing them:
Three Finger returns with Sean Skene playing the character, who’s done a slew of stunt doubling in films such as Mother’s Day, The Goon, and The Haunting in Connecticut.
We get two more cannibals in One Eye (played by Daniel Skene) and Scott Johnson as Sawtooth. Jennifer Pudavick plays the film’s heroine, Kenia. Fright fans should remember Pudavick from The Wishmaster sequels. But most of the actors, even these here, are locals from Winnipeg, where the film is currently shooting.
No release date yet, but it’s nice to get confirmation that Three Finger is back!
