Cassidy Clark became the 15th contestant eliminated from “The Challenge: USA” on Thursday night, following her loss to Chanelle Howell in the arena. In a not-so-classic version of “Hall Brawl,” the opponents smashed into each other in a narrow hallway and then had to complete a puzzle. Chanelle finished the fastest, sending the “Survivor 43” runner-up packing just before the season finale. Watch our exclusive video interview with the eliminated contestant above.
“It’s so bittersweet,” she tells Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson. “I was really proud of everything that I had done in the game. Having to fight that hard just to come up short of making the final was pretty devastating. I was in a lot of shock when it happened because it was over so quickly. Before I blinked I was out. At the same time, I had practice in losing right at the end in an epic way on ‘Survivor.

Michele Fitzgerald lucked out, for the most part, in playing both the Survivor and vets side in The Challenge: USA Season 2… until she didn’t. After doing what was best for her game with the previous vote and not putting Tori Deal‘s name in the hopper (but rather Chris Underwood‘s) and lying to Desi Williams and Chanelle Howell, Michele was one of the players nominated for elimination this week. Cassidy Clark, with seven votes, was the one whose name came out of the hopper, and she beat Michele in Hot Wheel: They had to use a steering wheel to light their color targets. Here, Michele talks about her time on The Challenge: USA, why you shouldn’t expect to see much different about her when she competes in Battle for a New Champion (premiering October 25 on MTV), and more. Few TV shows make it to Season 43. For every “60 Minutes” (54 seasons) and “Saturday Night Live” (47 seasons), there are hundreds, if not thousands, of television programs that are canceled or ended before they even make it to double digits. But “Survivor” just keeps going. Now the granddaddy of all reality TV shows is gearing up for its 43rd season (and 22nd year), due out in Fall 2022, with Jeff Probst back as host and executive producer. The most recent season, “Survivor 42,” was so captivating, it proves why the series deserves to reclaim its time in the Emmy spotlight.

Over the years, “Survivor” viewers have grown accustomed to witnessing a unique treat in each season’s live finale. Self-described superfan Sia would attend the reunion shows in Hollywood and reward her favorite contestants with a special cash prize. Due to the pandemic, the show understandably scrapped all live aspects of its finale and instead opted to pre-tape the winner announcement and reunion on the island. That left fans wondering: what about Sia’s prize money?!
While it’s unknown if the nine-time Grammy nominee doled out any moolah after “Survivor 41” wrapped, she has now officially made her selection for “Survivor 42.” During a video posted on CBS’s social media, contestant Drea Wheeler has learned that she is the beneficiary of a cool 100,000 of Sia’s own money. Three “Survivor” legends — Lauren-Ashley Beck (Season 39), Brice Johnston (Season 28) and Ozzy Lusth — attended a Season 42 finale watch party at Busby’s West on May 25 to see who would became the latest member of the show’s iconic winners list. They were joined by many former castaways (including Season 33 champ Adam Klein and Season 36 winner Wendell Holland), other reality TV show stars, plus dozens of fans who all watched the three-hour episode live on CBS. Gold Derby was on hand to talk with the trio of former players about how the reality TV show has evolved in recent years.
“I feel like for a long time ‘Survivor’ has missed the mark and I feel like it is so great to see the diversity,” Brice told me. He is the first openly gay Black person to play, and now he’s “honored to see the trans representation, the Poc representation, the women representation.

All season long, Gold Derby readers have been making their predictions about who they think will win “Survivor 42,” and things are looking good for Maryanne Oketch to take home the 1 million grand prize. The 24-year-old seminary student from Ajax, Ontario leads our finale racetrack odds at 2/9, far ahead of our second place competitor, Lindsay Dolashewich, who trails at 23/2 odds. If our users are correct that Maryanne will prevail, she would become only the second Black female winner in the show’s 42-season history, following Vecepia Towery in Season 4.
Here are Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” winner predictions ahead of the May 25 season finale on CBS.
1. Maryanne Oketch — 2/9 odds
2. Lindsay Dolashewich — 23/2 odds
3. Jonathan Young — 16/1 odds

“Survivor 42” saw the exit of one of its biggest power players last week when Hai Giang was blindsided by his former allies. The 28-year-old data scientist had been in the majority alliance post-merge, but (former) ally Omar Zaheer orchestrated his demise by telling a lie to Hai’s closest confidant, Mike Turner, which started the ball rolling. While Jonathan Young was the more obvious target due to his physical strength, Omar got his way and Hai was voted out of the game by a decisive 6-2 vote, and fans mostly agree with the move.

‘Survivor 42’ deleted scene: Jonathan Young reveals he ‘almost passed out’ from lack of food [Watch]
In this week’s “Survivor 42” deleted scene, Jonathan Young reveals he “almost passed out” on the island from a lack of food (watch above). Remember, this year the castaways are not provided with free rice by CBS — instead, they have to earn their sustenance through rewards or other means. The previously unseen moment comes on Day 17 after Jonathan’s group wins a food reward of beef and veggie kebobs. “Food has helped me think way more clear, play the game way harder and enjoy life,” Jonathan says in a confessional. “Because I gotta tell you, for 16 days I was not feeling great. I was getting to the point where I had to slow down from standing up. I almost passed out. But now that I have food, I feel so much better.”

One day after “Survivor” made headlines when two Black women, Maryanne Oketch and Drea Wheeler, openly addressed their feelings on racism and subconscious biases, Maryanne has thanked two of her white castaways for being allies. Lindsay Dolashewich and Tori Meehan “had every right to fight for their safety in the game once both idols were played,” Maryanne wrote on Instagram, “but instead, they chose to take a step back to actively listen to where I was coming from, and [empathize] with the burdens that I experience.” The 24-year-old seminary student from Ontario added that CBS’s reality TV show is at its core a “social game that is a microcosm of society.”

Drea Wheeler has a message for “Survivor” fans who have been lashing out on social media following Wednesday’s dramatic tribal council: “Be kind.” She tweeted the message on Thursday morning, no doubt her way of addressing all of the frustrated “Survivor” viewers who didn’t connect with the discussion on racism and subconscious biases in the ninth episode. “I respect everyone’s thoughts and opinions,” Drea said. “All I ask is that you respect my fellow #Survivor 42 family.”

In one of the most powerful tribal councils in the history of “Survivor,” two Black women — Drea Wheeler and Maryanne Oketch — stood up against racism at the end of the April 27 episode. The moment happened after host Jeff Probst split the remaining 10 players of “Survivor 42” into two groups of five. The first group voted out Rocksroy Bailey, making him the second Black person eliminated in a row after Chanelle Howell last week. When the second group entered tribal council, Drea and Maryanne both had strong reactions to seeing Chanelle and Rocksroy on the jury, and it sparked an entire discussion on racism and subconscious biases that went beyond the game.
Heading into tribal, Jonathan Young‘s plan was to boot out Drea because she had a hidden immunity idol (he wasn’t aware she actually had four advantages). But all bets were off after Rocksroy took a seat on the bench.

Hey, "Survivor" fans. Tonight, April 27, 2022, another new episode of Survivor's current season 42 did indeed hit the air, and two unlucky contestants got sent packing to the jury at the end. Tonight's episode kicked off with Romeo talking about the last tribal council meeting, which sent Chanelle Howell to the jury. Romeo told the private cams, "I was lied to because 3 votes went to me. All of these people are fake, but have to keep putting up an act for them for the sake of my game." Hai told the private cams, "I'm kind of upset about the hinky vote that I got at the last tribal council." Romeo told the private cams that he was the one who voted for Hai, but he told Hai that he didn't. Hai didn't believe him. Romeo told the private cams, "I wanted Hai to freak out. I want to create a little chaos and play this game.

Chanelle Howell saw her luck run out at the end of Episode 8 of “Survivor 42,” getting the boot from her tribe and becoming the first member of the jury. The 28-year-old executive recruiter had been floundering since her first Tribal Council in the pre-merge, which caused her former allies to drift away from her, and she was never able to find herself in the majority again. She was ultimately voted out by seven of her tribemates, and fans ultimately agree that she was the right person to go.

Mike Turner, who had started the game with Chanelle as members of the Vati tribe, was the main proponent in wanting her out, considering she cast a stray vote against him in the pre-merge. This, combined with her lack of integration into the newly formed majority alliance caused her to be squeezed out of the game in episode 8. But do you think Chanelle deserved to be voted out this week? Vote in our poll below. (Note: Tori Meehan is not included as an option since she won immunity again.)
After the chaotic third episode of the season, where her choice to risk her vote at the summit caused her to lose it and thus, lead to the destruction of the majority alliance, Chanelle couldn’t really find her footing in the game.

And then there were 11. After last week’s eventual merge, the castaways still in the running to win “Survivor 42” were: Rocksroy Bailey, Tori Meehan, Romeo Escobar, Drea Wheeler, Jonathan Young, Maryanne Oketch, Omar Zaheer, Lindsay Dolashewich, Chanelle Howell, Hai Giang and Mike Turner. A leading alliance of eight people took control in last week’s episode, but with so many idols and advantages in play, there was no telling who might end up having their torch snuffed by Jeff Probst at the end of the hour. So how’d it all play out?

The “Survivor 42” merge has ushered in an exciting new phase of the game. Like the previous season, the controversial hourglass twist was implemented, allowing one player to flip the results of the previous reward challenge and make the winning team vulnerable. Like Erika Casupanan last year, Rocksroy Bailey elected to turn back time and made himself safe at the first merge vote, along with Chanelle Howell, Drea Wheeler, Mike Turner, Omar Zaheer and Romeo Escobar. This limited the pool of potential eliminations, with Lydia Meredith meeting her untimely demise. But do you think she was the right person to be the merge boot? Vote in our poll below.

Only six players competed in the first individual Immunity Challenge of the season, and Tori Meehan emerged victorious, likely saving herself from being the easy boot. This left only Lydia, Hai Giang, Jonathan Young, Lindsay Dolashewich...

Heading into the highly anticipated “merge” episode of “Survivor 42”, the Ika, Taku and Vati tribes were all even at four members apiece. However, even though host Jeff Probst told them to “drop your buffs,” he then added it’s “not exactly” a merge. “In fact, you are not merged. You will not be officially merged until after the next tribal council. Like everything else in this game, you are going to earn your way into the merge,” he told the 12 remaining players. So how did tonight’s two-hour episode play out?

Daniel Strunk became the sixth person eliminated from “Survivor 42” last week, a decision by the Vati tribe with which many fans agree. The young law clerk suffered what could have been a game-ending shoulder injury in the very first episode of the season, but he stuck it out through five episodes before his tribe couldn’t carry him any longer. His strategic game did not help matters, having made a spectacle at Vati’s first Tribal Council in Episode 3, causing his tribemates to lose trust in him. Ultimately, “Survivor” fans approved of Daniel’s ouster.
In last week’s poll, where we asked you to pick who deserved to go home from the Vati tribe, Daniel earned a whopping 71 of the vote. This is far more decisive than any poll this season thus far. Chanelle Howell, who was also offered as a potential boot in Episode 5, amassed most of the other votes,...
