Nina Avramides, who managed Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett, Chicago and Whitesnake during a 40-year-plus career and also worked with Eagles and Steely Dan, has died. She was 82. Solters told Deadline that she died February 17 of dementia complications at her home in Marina del Rey, CA.
Avramides was born February 4, 1942, in Harrogate, England, and grew up in Cyprus, Greece. She moved to the U.S. with her family in 1964. She and Howard Kaufman managed Chicago in the 1970s and joined Irving Azoff’s Front Line Management — then known as Hk Management — during that decade.
During the next 40-plus years, Avramides handled the day-to-day management of Buffett, Page, Dan Fogelberg, Whitesnake, The Cult and many others. She also was involved in the careers of the Eagles, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs and more.
She is survived by her husband, Pierre Berducat, and sisters Kate Avramides and Susie Avramides. A memorial service is planned for the spring.

It’s that time of the year again. Mariah Carey has been defrosted. “Black Friday” sales seem to last for weeks. Last-minute treks to the gym fail to absolve your guilt over that third slice of pecan pie. Unfortunately, we’ll also have to endure a litany of ill-conceived and poorly executed Christmas songs that are inexplicably resurrected every year, and will likely be until time immemorial. Here are 15 of the absolute worst offenders. Apologies in advance.

Randy Meisner, the bassist and founding member of the Eagles who sang lead vocal on the band’s first big hit, “Take It to the Limit,” has died. He was 77.
Meisner died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the Eagles announced on their website.
“Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit,'” a statement read.
In May 1968, Meisner joined Poco with former Buffalo Springfield members Richie Furay and Jim Messina and worked on that group’s first album, 1969’s Pickin’ Up the Pieces, but he quit shortly before the record was released.
In September 1971, Meisner, Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon formed the Eagles. They signed with David Geffen’s Asylum Records and released their eponymous...

Dan Fogelberg is a name you might have heard kicked around a time or two in movies, TV, or even just in polite conversation. He’s definitely the type of musician that you really had to be interested in to listen to since a lot of his stuff is a lot slower and calmer than a lot of other bands that I’ve covered in articles such as these. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t just as great since he did have a following that managed to stay loyal to him throughout his career and was still around when he passed away in

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (Pcf) announced today that actor, comedian and humanitarian Chris Tucker (Rush Hour) will join its National Minority Health Month initiative as a spokesperson to raise awareness about the significant disparities that exist between men of African descent and other ethnicities as well as raise awareness about risk factors associated with the disease.
Chris Tucker Partners With The Prostate Cancer Foundation

Each year, three million men in the U.S. battle prostate cancer – one in nine will be diagnosed. African-American men are 74% more likely to develop prostate cancer in their early 50s and 2.4 times more likely to die of the disease. There are a number of factors contributing to this issue...

Garth Brooks has shown his support for the March For Our Lives events taking place across the Us on Saturday.
During his weekly Inside Studio G episode on Facebook on Monday, the country music superstar delivered a powerful message to march organizer Emma Gonzalez and her fellow Parkland classmates who have organized Saturday morning’s march to fight for a safer future for students all around the country.
During the episode, Brooks showed a letter, written by Stoneman Douglas shooting survivor and march organizer Emma Gonzalez that explains what the march is and what it stands for. What stood out to Garth was the line that says “I believe the young people in this country can change the world. Is there a “Buffett” on your Bucket List? If the answer is yes, find a way to get to St. Barths where the island’s favorite songster Jimmy Buffett will stage a free benefit concert on Wednesday, December 27.
Buffett has a decades long love affair with the island, and several songs were inspired by his time there including One Particular Harbor, Au Tour de Rocher and Cheeseburger in Paradise. In the days after Hurricane Irma passed over the island he joined Wimco Villas in purchasing essential supplies in the Us, flying them to St Barths via Tradewind Aviation, and distributing them to residents and first responders.
By Thanksgiving most of the island’s restaurants, shops and villas had reopened. Buffett asked local officials if he could stage a free performance in support of the island, which was enthusiastically approved. He will play on an elevated stage on the waterfront quay in the village of Gustavia,...

The highly-anticipated album, A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg, is now available on CD, digital and streaming platforms. Released worldwide through BMG, sales will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (Pcf), a cause near and dear to Dan’s wife, Jean Fogelberg.
A Tribute To Dan Fogelberg
In 2008, a year after Dan Fogelberg passed away from prostate cancer, Jean released “Sometimes A Song”, a Valentine’s Day gift to her from Dan, and donated proceeds to Pcf. Each year since then she has designed the annual Pcf Holiday Cards to help raise money and awareness.
In 2010, Jean put together a production dream team of some of Dan’s long-time friends, including producer Norbert Putnam; mega manager Irving Azoff; and concert promoter Chuck Morris. Together they gathered some of the industry’s leading musicians and vocalists to record an album honoring Dan. Included in the stellar lineup are Garth Brooks, Zac Brown, Jimmy Buffett,...

How do you make a charming movie star out of a Winklevoss?
Midway through Ben Wheatley’s new one-long-gunfight movie Free Fire, Armie Hammer’s character picks up a machine gun. This escalation will perhaps elicit an exhale and a “finally” from the audience. Hammer plays a deal broker called Ord in a gun-buy gone south, and to this point every shooter in the ensemble cast has ironically been limited to revolvers. But Hammer’s increased firepower at this moment is as fitting as his tailored wool blazer. In a movie where each crook is initially unleashed with quick and clever characterization, Hammer’s shtick — the fashion-conscious criminal liaison surrounded by goons — has legs and teeth. He’s firing on more cylinders than anyone in this action-comedy, which stars dramatic heavy hitters Brie Larson and Cillian Murphy and UK genre-flick staples Michael Smiley and Noah Taylor. For as long as any of them are allowed to stay...

As I mentioned in its introduction, my Steely Dan appreciation last week stemmed from an email exchange with several other people. And my article was not the last word by a long shot. One of the participants, Tony Alterman, is responding with his own album-by-album review, and his brother, CultureCatch's own Ian Alterman, is pitching in with his own observations. Here, with punctuation corrected and tangents omitted, is the origin of the debate and its continuation.
Tony Alterman:
Katy Lied -- Probably [Steely Dan's] fourth-best album, after Aja, Can't Buy a Thrill, and Royal Scam, in that order. Of course, fourth-best for Steely Dan is a bit like Beethoven's fourth-best symphony -- shades of difference here.
Ian:
Re: Steely Dan, it might be heresy, but I think Royal Scam is better than Aja. So my order would be Royal Scam, Aja, Can't Buy a Thrill, and then...well...it wouldn’t be Katy Lied.

Modern celebrity scandals are generally weak. Often completely fabricated and publicized inches beyond its life, every so-called scandal accompanies record drops, movie premieres and reality show debuts. These kids today with their Dan Fogelberg, Zima, hula hoops, and Pac Man videogames, they just don't know how good our grandparents had it. Because back then, shit got real.
I finally got around to reading Furious Love, the book about the relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and it is fascinating. Theirs is the kind of story that gives me the embarrassed ass cringies when I think of Speidi, Britney and KFed and that one time there was footage of Lindsay Lohan blowing that one guy. Dick and Liz's story is dramatic and crazy and oddly classy, though it shouldn't have been, what with all the homewrecking and two-timing and probable itchy redness.

And I barked to say, "Let's leave."

We watched a story of a Labrador
