Sometimes you’re single because you haven’t me your counterpart in the Nicholas Sparks movie of your life, and sometimes you’re single because you’re an odd bird. The latter is more or less the deal with the central characters on Weird Loners, Fox’s new comedy series which premiered Tuesday night. Happy Endings alum Zachary Knighton plays Stosh Lewandowski, a morally absent VP who is totally cool bedding the boss’ girl and has no qualms with using a dead guy’s credit card, regardless of the consequences. On a show about hopeless singles who may never find their match, Stosh is anything but depressed. “He’s pretty much incapable of having any human connection with anybody, even friends, family,” Knighton tells us. “I think this guy just doesn’t have the tools to connect with anyone.”\

Meera Rohit Kumbhani got a series lead on Fox’s upcoming “Weird Loners” after submitting a self-taped audition. The New York-based actor had been working in indie film, off-Broadway theater and in regional play productions like “The Who & the What” at southern California’s La Jolla Playhouse. “We weren’t specifically looking for stage experience,” Michael Weithorn, the show’s creator, told Backstage. In fact, they considered casting Priyanka Chopra, a Bollywood actor and former Miss World for the role of Zara. Instead they chose Kumbhani on the strength of an audition that looked like “she taped it in her agent’s office,” said Weithorn, who has a history of handing actor’s a break. He gave comedian Patton Oswalt his network debut on “King of Queens,” a series he co-created with David Litt, and was also a writer on “Family Ties,” which was Michael J. Fox’s debut as a network series lead.

Parenthood, Season 5, Episode 16, “The Enchanting Mr. Knight”
Written by Julia Brownell
Directed by Allison Liddi-Brown
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Est on NBC
This week, on Parenthood: Julia accepts some blame, Crosby eavesdrops, and Sarah makes a choice
Parenthood knocked it out of the park last week by focusing in on the difficult transitions happening for Julia, Sydney and Victor, and Amy. It was somewhat of a respite, with the various Bravermans coming to each other’s aid and generally being the best versions of themselves. This week that break is extended somewhat, with each of the main storylines in a holding pattern. While the episode is entertaining, it’s far from essential and indicative of the growing pains present this season, with the series that so excellently adapted to a shorter episode order last year straining to expand back to its full 22 episode order.

When it comes to the Emmys each year, it's easy to get angered when one nominee wins over another. But what about those that aren't even nominated? Our rage for those omitted has normally subsided by the time the awards themselves roll around, at least on an acute level. Sure, we might still be annoyed at not seeing a certain show, actor, writer or director appear onscreen during the ceremony. But in the short life cycle that constitutes pop culture, we tend to replace yesterday's outrage with today's furor.
None of this is to say that one can't be upset when a personal favorite is overlooked each awards season. But perspective is always good to have this time of year. After all, except for those directly involved with the awards, it doesn't truly matter who actually wins as a measure of objective quality. (You could make an argument that wins subsequently help ratings,...

It's been exactly nine months since the last time I was able to write about how great of a television show Wilfred is.
In my review of the Wilfred Season 2 finale, I called the show hilarious, heart-warming, depressing, and thought-provoking. Last summer the show took a leap in quality, elevating it to not only one of the best comedies on TV, but one of the best series period.
After watching two episodes of Wilfred Season 3, that fact has not changed.
The hour of "Uncertainty" and "Comfort" worked as a tremendous reminder of why Wilfred is like nothing else on television. It has the look and feel of a major motion picture, it racks the viewer's brain week after week with questions of what it's all about akin to Lost or Fringe, and it cracks you up throughout like some of the best comedies of all time.

We all remember what happened to Penny in the Happy Endings season premiere episode when she ditched a base jumping Brian Austin Green and fell down a million flights of stairs. It seems the body cast was only the first stop on Casey Rose Wilson physical comedy tour.
In "P & P Romance Factory" we met...the helmet.
No, not either of the colorful activity used helmets in the photo above, but Penny's prescription flesh colored helmet she must wear after her multiple head injuries. I have to say, I didn't realize how much that girl actually bangs her head until they showed that flashback reel. Ouch!
However, more painful for Penny than wearing the helmet that makes her look like a "half eaten crayon" is the fact that she met a total hottie at the helmet store and has to find ways to hide it from him. Cue an endless...

Adam Pally, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Guarino were joined by their Happy Endings writers, Jonathan Groff and David Caspe, today in an Outfest panel discussion that followed the world premiere of their lost kickball episode.
I don't want to say you'll get a kick out of the episode, because that's lame incarnate, but the sports-related proceedings (Bad News Bears meets A League of Their Own) are so damn funny, it's easily one of the show's best offerings to date.
Prior to the screening, I caught up with the guests of honor on the red carpet to get some season three scoop -- and the biggest headline is that Dave and Alex will be a full-blown couple when the third year picks up.
"A lot of times, we try to do what feels like the most real thing but we never did the whole breakup/makeup thing with them because we tried to find out who those characters were individually...

From being left at the altar to finding out he's one-sixteenth Navajo to becoming addicted to V-neck tees, Dave Rose has dealt with a lot during the past two seasons of ABC's comedy "Happy Endings." Although he sometimes seems like the straight man among zany characters, the actor who plays him, Zachary Knighton, has a different theory – that he's a "mash-up" of every character on the show. "He does some dumb things like Alex, he can be controlling and manic like James," says the 33-year old Virginia native. "It makes sense in my own head," Here, Knighton discusses his theories on acting, rejection, and ensemble chemistry. Back Stage: How did you get into acting?Zachary Knighton: I got serious about it when I got accepted into a magnet high school for the performing arts. After high school, I went to Vcu and got a Bfa in theater. I got to.

Penny’s long-standing declaration that it’s the Year of Penny may actually come true in 2012, but I’m going to go ahead and declare this the Episode of Penny. While Zachary Knighton put in a valiant effort to make it the Episode of Dave, this was Casey Wilson’s best Penny outing yet.
After going through another dating disaster, Penny unwisely took advice from functioning lunatic Jane (the relentlessly funny Eliza Coupe) to nab a fixer-upper fellow and change him into an ideal gentleman like she did with Brad. I don’t know which visual I loved more, physical-comedy...

Happily, Syfy has now released a nice long (almost nine minutes) promo about the series, and it looks like it will be a great fit with its other great current scripted series, Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Haven. Settle in and check this out:
