Exclusive: Dennis the Menace is getting another shot at the small screen after Beano Studios started developing a YA adaptation of the classic British comic book character (not to be confused with the Hank Ketcham U.S. character).
Deadline understands that the British company is pitching a live-action series based on the DC Thomson-owned IP with Matthew Barry, a writer on Netflix’s Greg Berlanti-produced Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, having written the script.
We hear that the company is in talks in the U.S. and UK and has held discussions with a series of U.S. studio partners to come on board the project.
The tone of the pilot script is understood to be much darker than the original with Dennis believed to be a teenager, around the age of 16, and flitting in and out of trouble with the police. One source told Deadline that the remake has...

As this summer’s blockbuster season reminds us comic book adaptations are big business with the latest incarnations of heroes old and new filling the local picturehouse and running merry riot over box office records.
Given the twin benefits of a wealth of material on which to draw and a ready audience primed to see their favourites fleshed out and thrown onto a movie screen it seems that we’ll be seeing many more familiar, and some less familiar, cartoon characters in movies of their own.
Jean Dujardin turned the world into a swooning mess when he led Michel Hazanavicius’ award magnet The Artist last year and in this article Anwar Brett takes a look at another of the actor’s roles, that of Lucky Luke in James Huth’s adaptation of the comic book by Morris, which is out now on DVD, as well as nine other cartoon heroes...

Durham, Nc - The hard truth of cinema takes place at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, Nc from April 14-17. That’s four solid days of movies that don’t feature Natalie Portman’s face being digitally inserted on other bodies. Four days of real people doing real stuff. And you can get some great BBQ.
This years line up has enough goodness to make me have to make painful choices as what to watch. There’s only one screening unless a movie wins a major prize. It’s be there or miss out. Choice wisely. Here’s a few of the films I’m looking to catch:
The Hangman (Thursday 10:20 a.m.) appears to be a creepy classic as it probes the man who executed Nazi Adolph Eichmann. What’s he do now? He ritually slaughters animals. Windfall (Thurs 4:20 p.m.) takes us to Meredith,...
