Back in 1964 a lot of people still thought dolphins were fish, but by the time this TV show was finished, we all knew that our happy undersea friend was smarter than the average bear and lives in a world full of wonder. Ivan Tors’ grandly successful Florida-shot family show kept a lot of seagoing movie veterans in green seaweed, including both original ‘Creature’ Gill Men.

The Mark Of Zorro Screens Sunday, December 13th at Webster University’s Winifred Moore Auditorium (470 E. Lockwood Ave., St. Louis, Mo 63119) with Live piano by Ben Model, one of the nation’s leading silent film accompanists.
I used to check out The Mark Of Zorro on 8mm film from the library and watch it over and over in my basement when I was a kid in the early ‘70s and I can’t wait to see it in glorious 35mm (the print is from the Museum of Modern Art) this Sunday night (December 13th) at Webster University’s Winifred Moore Auditorium. Admission is $6 ($4 for seniors and free for Wu students)
In The Mark Of Zorro (1920), Don Diego Vega (Douglas Fairbanks), a foppish son of a wealthy rancher, disguises himself with a mask and cape and becomes the legendary Zorro, defender of the people when corrupt Governor Alvarado (George Periolat) crushes...

Coming hot off of the heels of Janus Films picking up the rights to the Charlie Chaplin catalog, it looks like Kino is set to bring to DVD and Blu-Ray one of Buster Keaton’s, Chaplin’s silent counterpart, most legendary films, Steamboat Bill, Jr. Several months back,
Kino leapt into the world of Blu-ray with the Buster Keaton film, The General.
Kino International released a press release this weekend announcing that the film is set to come to DVD and Blu-Ray, with some really excellent special features. Included in the release will be three different musical backing tracks in the form of two scores (one organ and one piano) as well as a complete score by the Biograph Players, as well as a documentary on the making of the film, a stills gallery, a musical montage of stunts and pratfalls, and two recordings of the folk song, Steamboat Bill.

I was shocked to look over my DVD/Blu-ray collection and find I didn't actually own a single title from Kino, the eclectic home entertainment studio. They have several noteworthy films in their collection and on top of The General there's Battleship Potemkin, the Griffith Masterworks, Ballast, Metropolis, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari and their collection of F.W. Murnau films is impressive. Yet, I own none of them, which makes the addition of Buster Keaton's classic silent comedy The General on Blu-ray a special occasion.
First off, this film is great without any kind of high definition clean-up. My first time watching it was September of 2008 and it was on Netflix's Instant Play service and I loved it then as much as I loved it this time around, but the comparison stops there. Kino's restoration and presentation is immaculate. The General was released in 1927 and is now the oldest...
