There have been 22 seasons of American Idol so far (including the one airing right now on ABC) and throughout those two decades, there have been 14 different people who have sat behind the judges table.
The longest reign in the judges chair is 12 seasons while three different judges only appeared on one season. We bet you totally forgot that some of these people were even on the show!
Another fun fact is that only three seasons of American Idol have had four judges while the other 17 seasons all had just three judges.
One thing that has remained constant throughout all 22 seasons is that Ryan Seacrest has been the host every single year. The first season he co-hosted with Brian Dunkleman and then he was a solo host for the remaining 19 seasons.

Twenty-one years ago, Brian Dunkleman co-hosted his first season and only season of American Idol alongside Ryan Seacrest. He quit after the inaugural season ended, unaware that Idol would be one of the biggest singing competitions for years to come. American Idol enlisted Seacrest and Dunkleman to audition for the show’s co-hosting gig in 2002. Meanwhile, Dunkleman’s experience was in acting and stand-up comedy. He told GQ in 2019 that he wasn’t really interested in any hosting gigs at the time, but he auditioned because someone from Fox wanted him to.

Psychics Predicted Paul Abdul’s Life-Changing ‘American Idol’ Journey Three Years Before It Happened

However, working on a reality competition series wasn’t on her radar. Her career was in flux when two psychics predicted she would experience a life-changing role on a new television series three years before Idol happened.

When the first episode of “American Idol” aired in June 2002, few could have predicted that the reality singing competition show would transform the television landscape. Voting by text message for your favorite contestants (and watching them get played off by Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day”) became a national pastime for much of the early aughts. “Idol”s massive success gave way to shows like “The Voice,” “America’s Got Talent” and “The Masked Singer,” but none have managed to capture the dynamic of original judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, anchored by longtime host Ryan Seacrest. The sovereignty of the Y2K pop diva, coupled with a tabloid-fueled culture and twice-weekly episode format set the stage for “Idol” to dominate water cooler conversation.
“Idol”s handle on the cultural zeitgeist (it was the highest-rated show on U.S. television for seven consecutive years) gave it the ability to launch winners into the national spotlight.

Brian Dunkleman is firing back after reports surfaced this week about his current occupation. According to documents in Dunkleman's divorce from estranged wife Kalea Dunkleman, obtained by TMZ, the former American Idol host listed his occupation as "Uber driver." The former couple, who share a 5-year-old son named Jackson, have been in an ongoing divorce and custody battle. TMZ reports that Dunkleman, who co-hosted the first season of AI in 2002 alongside current host Ryan Seacrest, started driving for the company in March 2016. Many people in Hollywood’s Thirty-Mile Zone may be afraid to take on gossip website TMZ and its founder Harvey Levin, but ex-“American Idol” host Brian Dunkleman is not among them.
After TMZ posted this story revealing that the former TV partner to Ryan Seacrest now drives for Uber, Dunkleman didn’t shy away from injecting a few more facts into the narrative.
“I chose to stop doing standup comedy and started driving an Uber so I could be there for my son as much as he needed after our life as we knew it was destroyed,” Dunkleman wrote on Twitter to TMZ and its boss Harvey Levin. “Print that.”

Dunkleman says, "I chose to stop doing standup comedy and started driving an Uber so I could be there for my son as much as he needed after our life as we knew it was destroyed." It seems he's referring to the divorce and ugly custody battle he and his ex-wife have waged over their child. Brian Dunkleman -- the former co-host of "American Idol" -- is now making a living as an Uber driver.

In case you've forgotten, American Idol used to be wildly different from what it is now. Back in the first season on Fox in 2002, the show was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman, and the judges were the brilliantly mean Simon Cowell, the always colorful Paula Abdul, and everyone's favorite dawg Randy Jackson. The first season also, quite surprisingly, produced one of the most successful winners to date: Kelly Clarkson. Idol was also my favorite show on television, but that is neither here nor there.
Over the years, the show has been canceled and rebooted on a new network and 15 more Idols have been crowned, some having far more success than others. The winners have gone on to release dozens of singles and albums, star in Broadway shows, write books, cross the country on tours, and take home a slew of awards. For a glimpse at what all the...

In the kind of #ThrowbackThursday you can’t script, the first eviction of “Big Brother 20” will take place on Thursday, July 5, which is 18 years to the day of the show’s series premiere. That’s right, American “Big Brother” is a whole adult who can vote old (which it should do in November).
Way back at the turn of the millennium and just five weeks after launching summer sensation “Survivor,” CBS debuted “Big Brother,” the U.S. version of the Dutch reality hit. And “Big Brother” has definitely gotten, as the kids say, a glow-up since then.
See Congrats, Foutte! You’re the worst ‘Big Brother’ alliance name of all time
Season 1 is completely different from the “Big Brother” we know and love now. The debut season hewed closely to the Dutch original. Evictions were known as “banishments” and all banishments were voted on by America, who also voted for the winner.

Radio host Bobby Bones isn't just one of the newest stars of American Idol, he's probably one of the most tatted. The 38-year-old has at least three designs inked on his body, and he seems eager for more! Read on to learn more about Bobby Bones' tattoos… You might have noticed the large, bold tattoo on Bobby's arm, for example. In response to a Twitter fan question in 2015, Bobby said he has his grandmother's initials, his mom's initials, and the state of Arkansas tattooed on his forearm. A post shared by Bobby Bones (@mrbobbybones) on Apr 1, 2018 at 2:28pm Pdt One of those two sets of initials is "Hh," and when country star Hunter Hayes stopped by his show in 2013, Bobby fooled Hunter into thinking the "Hh" referred to him. The "Hh" ink was actually Bobby's first tattoo, and he documented the experience in a YouTube video. "[The needle] was not as...

Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?
