Some of Hallmark Channel’s hottest stars are opening up about Candace Cameron Bure leaving the network to become an executive at Great American Family.
Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, and Paul Campbell – the three stars of Three Wise Men and a Baby – chatted with Vulture for a new feature on Hallmark.

Bill Abbott, the Chief Executive Officer of the media company, Great American Family, tried to distance the organization from the controversial opinions made by former Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, the network’s new chief content officer, after her anti-lgbtq comments.
Back in November 2022, the actress gave an interview to The Wall Street Journal about her new position at the network. She said that due to the network’s focus on “traditional” marriage, viewers should not expect any LGBTQ plot lines in its movies.
Her comments in this interview were quickly denounced by other celebrities like JoJo Siwa and groups that support LGBTQ rights.
Abbott had no other choice but to speak up about Bure’s comments.

Great American Family CEO Bill Abbott is speaking out about Candace Cameron Bure's controversial "traditional marriage" comments.
In a new interview with Variety, Abbott revealed that he doesn't think the Full House alum is a spokesperson for the network.
"We're proud to have her here, and she works so well with the team alongside me, and we have a really talented and dedicated team that's committed to high-quality faith and family content," Abbott said.
"In terms of her personal views, it's like the disclaimer you see at the end of a movie or a series that says, 'The views reflected here are not necessarily those of the company.'"
"Candace has such a high profile that when she speaks, she'll speak on a lot of topics, and she has a wonderful podcast that is fantastic," he added.
"But when she speaks on that, she's not speaking on behalf of Great American Media.

Jodie Sweetin is not happy about where her latest made-for-tv movie will be airing.
Sweetin is coming forward after news emerged that her film, “Craft Me a Romance”, was picked up by Great American Family (Gaf).
The recently rebranded network (formerly known as Great American Country) was launched by ex-Hallmark Channel head Bill Abbott, after he was forced to step down as CEO of Crown Media Family Networks (Hallmark’s parent company) after backlash bowing to pressure from anti-gay groups by pulling a commercial that featured a same-sex couple.
Since launching as Gaf in 2021, the network has managed to snag numerous Hallmark Channel actors to star in the channel’s Hallmark-style movies, including Sweetin’s fellow “Full House” alum Candace Cameron Bure, who signed an exclusive deal with Gaf.

Jodie Sweetin is speaking out after it was revealed her new movie would be a part of Great American Family's schedule.
The cable network has been scrutinized following Sweetin's one-time Full House costar Candace Cameron Bure's controversial sentiments about keeping "traditional marriages at the core" of the network's offerings.
Bure serves as the chief creative officer for the network and declared that she didn't think movies featuring LGBTQ+ couples would make their way to the cabler.
"I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core," she stated, while former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott said in the same interview that it may not always be the case.
"It's certainly the year 2022, so we're aware of the trends," he told Wall Street Journal.
"There's no whiteboard that says, 'Yes, this' or 'No, we'll never go here.'"

Hallmark Media CEO Wonya Lucas will step down from the role at the end of 2023. The executive helped pioneer a more inclusive programming lineup for the cable network during her three-year tenure. She will continue to serve on the Hallmark Media board of directors.

After three years at the helm, Hallmark Media President & CEO Wonya Lucas will exit her current role at the end of year, the company announced Tuesday. Lucas will continue to serve on the Hallmark Media Board of Directors.
Lucas, who was named to the post in July 2020, succeeded previous CEO Bill Abbott, who stepped down in January of that year following Hallmark Channel’s controversial handling of an ad featuring a same-sex couple kissing. It capped longtime criticism over Hallmark movies’ lack of diversity.
Increasing representation was one of Lucas’ priorities during her tenure, and she is credited with building a more solid foundation for the business through broadened storytelling with more diverse and inclusive storylines and characters.
Meanwhile, Abbott went on to launch a rival network in Gac Family, now Great American Family, owned by Great American Media, poaching some of Hallmark’s biggest stars to compete for female audiences and ad dollars.

Candace Cameron Bure has been called a lot of things lately, but award-winning is certainly not one of the descriptions. But that’s about to change … maybe.
The Fuller House actress who generated lots of headlines for moving her brand of entertainment to Great American Family just received the Best Family Television prize and the Grace Award for TV performance at the 30th Annual Movieguide Awards. Never heard of those? They’ve been (kindly) nicknamed the Christian Oscars because they like to honor wholesome and uplifting Christian entertainment.

Neal Bledsoe won’t have another Christmas at the Drive-In with Danica McKellar on Great American Family. The actor recently announced his decision to leave the cable channel over comments made by Candace Cameron Bure, its chief creative officer, and Bill Abbott, its chief executive. The world of holiday programming continues to grow. While Hallmark Channel and Lifetime have seen major success with their “Countdown to Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” slates, respectively, Great American Family joined the discussion in 2021.
In June 2021, the network, originally tilted Great American Country (Gac), was acquired by Gac Media, a group formed by former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott and Hicks Equity Partners. In the fall of that year, the network was relaunched as Gac Family.
Under Gac Media, Great American Country changed to “Gac Family” and later to “Great American Family” — the title they have gone by since August 2022. The channel became similar in content to what Abbott had created at Hallmark, including original made-for-tv movies, holiday programming and big franchises. However, it also focuses more heavily on faith-driven programming.

I hope Gaf will change, but until everyone can be represented in their films with pride, my choice is clear. I look forward to working with creators who put no limits on the stories we tell and follow through on their message of values with open arms.” In November, Bure said she didn’t expect Gaf to be producing movies featuring same-sex couples, saying, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.

Former Hallmark star Candace Cameron Bure is speaking out following controversial comments that said Great American Family would favor "traditional marriage" over featuring LGBTQ love stories.

Candace Cameron Bure is responding to the backlash. Earlier this week, the actor, who serves as Great American Family’s chief creative officer, told “WSJ. Magazine” that the network will not be featuring LGBTQ couples, noting, ““I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she said.
CEO Bill Abbott added, “It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here.'”
On Wednesday, Bure responded to the many criticisms of her remarks in a lengthy statement:

GLAAD is calling out Candace Cameron Bure’s Great American Family network for being a platform for the Great American Homophobe.
The “Full House” alum-turned-Hallmark Channel’s Queen of Christmas announced a partnership with the Great American Family as its chief creative officer ahead of upcoming holiday film “A Christmas…Present.” Bure slammed Hallmark for becoming too woke in recent years, namely with an upcoming LGBTQ Christmas love story.
“It basically is a completely different network than when I started because of the change of leadership,” Bure recently told The Wall Street Journal. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
Bure added, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”

Candace Cameron Bure’s “Full House” and “Fuller House” co-star Jodie Sweetin showed support for Jojo Siwa, who spoke out against Bure over recent comments Bure made about “traditional marriage.” Bure has been widely criticized following an interview with The Wall Street Journal in which she said her new television home at Great American Family would not spotlight gay couples in lead roles. Bure, who is Great American Family’s chief creative officer, said the network “will keep traditional marriage at the core.”
“Honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding Lgbtqia+, but then also talk about it in the press,” wrote Siwa, who publicly came out as gay in 2021. “This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”
Sweetin was one of several celebrities who showed support for Siwa on her Instagram post.

Does Lori Loughlin deserve a second chance?
Bill Abbott from Great American Family sure things so.
Abbott spoke with Variety recently, and Loughlin's presence on the network is definitely on his mind.
It's not a secret that Loughlin found herself caught up in some bad practices regarding her daughters and their college entrance applications.
Loughlin proclaimed her innocence, was ultimately convicted and sentenced to two months in prison, fined 150,000, and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.

Since she was six years old, Candace Cameron Bure has been acting. Best known for her role as D.J. Tanner on all 193 episodes of “Full House” and, later, all 76 episodes of “Fuller House,” it’s no surprise that she feels so at home on a TV set.
Still, she wanted to do more. She took a break after meeting her husband, Valeri Bure, at 18; they got married two years later and then she spent 10 years focusing on becoming a mom and raising their three children. Then, as she says, she re-entered the entertainment world “with a vengeance.” And it wasn’t easy.
Over the next 16 years, she not only became a business woman — she’s written 11 books, launched her own clothing line with QVC, partnered with Dr. Lancer Skincare and Christian gifts company DaySpring — she also continues to star in TV shows and movies.

Great American Family is already the home for “Full House” and “Fuller House,” so it only makes sense that the cast is also migrating over. Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber are both set for Christmas films this year, and CEO Bill Abbott is hopeful that Lori Loughlin will join the network.
“We talk three times a week. We have two scripts that she really likes, one of which we’ll greenlight for this year or next year. Lori’s a good friend and somebody who we would love nothing more than to do a movie with, and we’re hopeful,” Abbott tells Variety.
The actor has a longstanding relationship with Abbott. When he was CEO of Hallmark Media (then called Crown Media), she led 16 “Garage Sale Mystery” films for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, and starred in 56 episodes of “When Calls the Heart.” The network cut ties with her amid the...

Candace Cameron Bure was the undisputed queen of Hallmark Channel’s slate of popular holiday fare, with more than 30 credits to her name. Who could forget her work as a high-strung doctor who moves to Alaska in “Christmas Under Wraps”? Ok, just because you haven’t heard of it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a huge hit. The 2014 made-for-tv movie has the distinction of being the most watched Hallmark Christmas special ever, landing almost 6 million viewers on its debut airing. So, when Bure, 46, split with Hallmark to join rival upstart cable network Gac (now Great American Family) earlier this year, not even Santa himself could cheer up Hallmark.
The brains behind this Christmas steal wasn’t the Grinch. Instead, it was Great American Media president and CEO Bill Abbott, the former chief of Hallmark Channel’s parent company, who stepped down from his previous post in 2020 after he faced...
