One of the abandoned kids asks Wallace for help with her math homework. The word problem is a city bus has so many people boarding and leaving the bus at each stop and how many are left at the end? The girl has no idea how to solve this. Wallace translates the problem to keeping count of the stash; so many bucks, so many orders. Once the problem is translated, she has no problem doing the math. In their world, if you get the count wrong, you get a minimum of a severe beating.
