American Dialectics
First-time director Nasser Abouelazm takes us for a wild ride filled with color and music in his offbeat documentary, American Dialectics. Almost akin to a video diary, the film follows two friends from Florida who naively travel to San Francisco in search of revolution. What they find, however, is something more profound than the fulfillment of their preconceived notions. They find a strong family in a random collection of young artists whose dealings with love, sex, and madness are hardly taboo. Though the majority of its enormous cast of characters is artists, American Dialectics hardly focuses on their craft, but rather on the personal nuances that make them vulnerable and human. The filmÂ’s soundtrack features a variety of music from local musicians from The Jugtown Pirates to Morph Dwarf.
