The Icefall Doctor Trailer
The Icefall Doctor is based on Everest legend Angnima Sherpa, an obscure voice in the vast world of Everest history and film, yet a most significant one.
Angnima had worked on Everest since 1975 and was a practicing Buddhist. Statistically, he and his team had the most dangerous profession on earth, which was managing the Khumbu Icefall on Everest through fixing and maintaining the ropes and ladders in order for western mountaineers to have an opportunity at the summit.
Leader of an unappreciative trade, unrecognized by most Everest enthusiasts, Angnima and his team were a mythical band of hardcore Sherpas, unfamiliar to a majority of the world.
Angnima was the first official Icefall Doctor, a term bestowed on him by legendary guide Rob Hall before his untimely death on Everest in 1996. His story reveals culture, commitment to family, chasms of class & financial inequity, and over all hangs the fog of environmental stewardship.
For over ten years we were granted unprecedented access to film the Icefall Doctors, as well as the support from the Embassy of Nepal and Ambassador of Nepal.
