Reunion (VI) (2020)

A decent slow-burner. I liked it.

This is actually not as bad as the rating. It felt a little cheaply made as if they lacked budget, but overall the story was pretty alright. It's not really a horror movie, more like a mystery-drama about a strange family. The house was really eerie and I enjoyed the atmosphere it gave the movie. The ending was a little rushed but the small twist wasn't bad. I feel like it just needed to run maybe 10 or 15 more minutes to properly flesh it out. Overall it's a decent, slow movie but with a great atmosphere and creepy setting, and a decent intrigue. The main actress was pretty good. Definitely not a bad movie, I liked it, just don't go in expecting something scary.

Relic (2020)

I love drama-horror and this *almost* delivered. The movie is pretty creepy and the whole house thing was pretty cool. Unfortunately the ending is kinda meh.

Mermaid Down (2019)

At first glance I really thought this would be good but unfortunately not. This is an okay TV movie at best, with a low budget but some ok effects. It's kind of like a cheap Goosebumps episode, made for young girls. There is no blood or anything horror except the mermaid looks a little creepy. The asylum is weird; these girls look like they are just having a party in their house; it doesn't look like a psychiatric institute. And the main villain makes no sense. At first you think he wants to help the mermaid, but then he's just crazy for no reason? And why is The Invisible Woman in this movie?? what's her point.... This was so bad.

Why did I just watch that? Is it supposed to be a bad version of Almost Famous? There was no point to this movie at all, no story, no likeable character, no nothing. Just a bunch of bums hanging around in a van on the road in the middle of nowhere, drinking and having sex. Dakota looked like a cadaver in this movie.

The Shrine (2010)

Not great, but better than expected

I did not have any expectations watching this but I must say it wasn't bad. Not a great movie by any means, but very watchable. The intrigue kept me interested, and although the effects are a little low budget, they were effective. That statue was particularly creepy. The only downside is the lack of subtitles on some of the dialogues but you can still kind of guess what they say. I would give it the half mark. Decent, nothing special.

Lackluster Snoozer

The score and some reviews seemed great so I watched this last night and I must say I am extremely disappointed and I lost my time. The story had some potential, but it fails to keep you interested with a bad script that drags on with many scenes. The acting was hit or miss, some were decent (but not very good still) and others were terrible. There aren't a lot of characters in the movie but they can't carry it properly. The setting looked fine, it's a deserted island so it does the job. Music score was decent. The action... well, there is no action. There are a few ghostly scenes but nothing scary (it's not horror, the trailer does not define the movie properly). Obviously the budget for this was very low, which I don't usually mind, but here, it was blatant and distracting. It made it extremely tedious to watch. Like I said, the story maybe could have been decent, but the poor script, dialogues scenes and the humdrum acting all together make this a very poor movie. I would never want to watch it again. Basically, it's a bunch of sailors who shipwreck on a island and want to get out because the islanders don't want to tell them what's going on and what happened, so they talk, talk and talk, look around, talk some more, then some flashbacks happen, flashbacks again, they talk, look around, they talk and that's pretty much that. Honestly, it was just boring. Skip.
