Knebworth 2003
9 November 2023
The peak of Robbie William's career, according to the artist himself, was 2003 in Knebworth. After seeing this documentary, I'd agree. Three nights in August of 2003. The peak wasn't that long and the road up and down and around the peak is portrayed in just the right length in this 4-part documentary. Any longer and I would have probably stopped watching . I didn't follow his career, I wasn't at Knebworth or any of his concerts, but I can appreciate the story and arc of his career from age 16 to present day. The life of a pop star is a roller coaster ride just higher highs and lower lows than the rest of us. But Peak Robbie Williams as a human being is not on stage but came much later, in finding purpose.

"...we are made for eternity..."

A nice little film about someone who took the path less traveled. At one point in this film I thought about "The Vasa'" which if you know that history never made it out of Stockholm's harbor in 1628 . This is an adventure story that inspires and confirms good health is living by pursuing one's passion, not just surviving passively. Staying connected to nature is the other strong element that comes through. One thing I enjoyed is that the filming of Sven's adventures were not shut down during Covid. He found a way to keep the project rolling. I hope there is a sequel but I must be satisfied if there isn't, Sven is 83 years old after all.

Admit upfront I am biased

I am an American that moved to Sweden over 20 years ago from Seattle. I speak the language fluently and spent many summers in the Swedish Archipelago. I have dined in those fine establishments like "Operakällaren" in Stockholm. Perhaps you've read or heard there's a good love story waiting for you in this series, true enough. Yet there is a bonus. Without actually seeking to know you'll get a good primer on Swedish life, culture, history with no effort at all. Highly recommended.

Already over 700 reviews and rated 8,7

So add one more to keep that rating right where it should be. The title of the show is accurate, Mrs. Maisel is amazing. Sure if someone wants to nitpick small stuff, you'll find it but the characters and writing and NYC in the 50's is seductive.

This doesn't happen often
3 March 2021
My list of movies I want to watch a second time is very short. Long shot makes this list because the jokes are worth hearing again. The timing and delivery are genius. I don't write many reviews either but I want to see this movie stay solidly in the 7+ range. Anything less doesn't seem fair.

Christmas Chemistry
17 December 2020
Good watch. Recommended. The leads have chemistry and the kid actor did a decent job too. Any criticism you may read about the setting or window dressing in this film is inconsequential in my view. It is all about the story and characters you are rooting for. On that basis, Small Town Christmas delivered!

Watch at least until you hear the Einstein quote, then decide if you want to keep watching, I did, you probably will too.

If this falls below 7,5 don't believe it

Characters are likable and story well-written even if similar to what has been done before (Brigette Jones' Diary). Very enjoyable watch.

The sub-plot is about heart (literally)
17 January 2019
My son (age 22 next month) has been very interested in politics from a young age, so he asked me to go see "Vice" last night. Afterwards he asked why no one else in the theater was laughing like we were. I suggested that it might be because a dark satire isn't to everyone's taste. Here's my review in the form of a limerick.

"The sub-plot is about heart (literally)"

The Dick Cheney story in "Vice" is told Young dirt-bag drunk, becomes VP that's bold Yeah, it's satire and dark Christian Bale hits the mark Despite FIVE heart attacks, Dick still grows old!
