another movie killed by over-diversity
21 December 2022
First, it was Spirited, then Sandler's Hustle, now this movie; do these studios think nobody has eyes?; sorry but when I look around I am not seeing that every other couple is interracial, its more like every 200 couples. Shoving unrealistic diversity down the viewer's throat distracts the viewer from the story and ruins the movie. Take it down notch, throw in some diverse casting here and there, stop over-doing it!. Outside of that horrifying issue, I liked the movie; David has a lot of heart, in everything he does. These kinds of absurdist horror/comedies are very well done these days. In the past, e.g., Krampus, not too good. The Black Christmas franchise is just awful, not scary, not fun, not anything, just ugh.

I guess the target demo was 6-12 years old?
8 September 2022
I was a quarter way in and trying to figure out why this was surprisingly terrible; seemed like a satirical SNL take on the genre, but then I realized, oh, this movie is not meant to be seen by me, it is for kids. Problem with the super-hero movies is that sometimes they are pure good movies, with no target demo, like the original Hulk movie, the first Thor, first two Avengers, first wonder woman, first superman with henry cavill, Joker, Dark Knight, etc., entertaining for both younger and older people, but you don't know until after you start watching. This version of Thor was so disappointing, I can't begin to express it; like some kind of amateur comedy skit. The whole Jane becomes a female Thor bit was ludicrous, made zero sense. Another huge turn-off was the woke junk that was so obviously shoved in by the studio's diversity officer, echh.

The Hunting (2021)

False Advertising

Don't get fooled by the cover; there is no creature, it is a boring wolfman. The cheap-looking wolfman makes a fuzzy appearance at the beginning and end of this horribly amateur, cheap flick.

Was not expecting this fresh take
19 February 2022
When I heard netflix produced yet another remake of Chainsaw I asked myself 'why?'; was this the 4th or 5th remake? I lost count, each remake was a derivative of the original and never as good. So shocked I was when this version turned out to be a fresh take. I liked it, although the ending seemed rushed. It would have been better if they tied in the girl's school shooting experience into the end of the movie; perhaps showing her half-unconscious on the classroom floor dreaming the whole movie, or something like that? Also, note to Netflix, maybe 3% of all couples in the U. S. are comprised of a black person with a white person; yet according to you, that stat is reversed to be 97%. Sorry, but the filling of your diversity quota results in an unrealistic number of mixed-race couples in all of your programming. Guess what, there are some black people who pursue other black people for romantic relationships, and for you to ignore that fact only paints you as racist.

Well done and better than expected
7 April 2021
I threw this on before beginning house chores where I'd be walking from room to room, listening, but it turned out to be pretty engaging and i got very few chores done. As a movie buff I had read all about every movie they reviewed and didn't think i'd learn much more, but my preconceived notions were proven incorrect. The interviews with the people who starred in or made each movie revealed points of view I had not heard before. There are a few recurring commentators and then specific commentators for each film. The movie buff group - illianna douglas, joe dante, kevin pollack and john waters - bring deep knowledge to forefront, they all did well, except Bruce Vilanch, he brought me out of the zone every time they went to him for comment. I'd seen his name in the credits of award shows and variety specials but did not know what he looked like, OMG, a giant toad that is melting before your eyes?, ok, let me refocus, anyway, its a solid documentary on the cult classics that successfully brings 'further knowledge' to the table.

Its dark, very dark
30 December 2020
Not dark in an insidious way, not dark comedy, not dark material, cinematically dark, as in no lighting, the whole movie is almost pitch black. It is constantly raining and in the evening, or in a cave, a sewer, anything to retain the darkness so that the viewer can struggle to figure out what they are seeing. When predator fights alien, you cant tell the characters apart, it is too dark. Every character is in silhouette almost throughout the whole movie. A shame, because a better film maker/director could have made this an epic flick; instead it is a hunk of tar sitting i the middle of a black hole.
