Sweet and funny and made me smile
4 May 2024
I loved it. Lots of interesting characters and endearing quirkiness, and it was beautifully shot. I wasn't sure what to expect but I will now look out for more such German language films - this and Faraway (also on Netflix) are both charming. It showed the journey for both lead characters from heartbreak and cynicism to vulnerability and love. Karl and Maria are strong, intelligent and likeable. And attractive. And you are rooting for them. It wasn't cheesy or predictable (although there is room for those kinds of romantic comedies too). It was sweet and funny and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. It left me smiling.

Raise a Glass to Love (2021 TV Movie)
10/10
Worthy of a sequel or two
20 July 2023
Laura Osnes is charming and accomplished and Juan Pablo Di Pace is effortlessly engaging and natural. He helps her to trust herself, and to have bigger dreams. She encourages him and believes in his talents. A stylish background of beautiful wine country, strong family connections and Argentinian flair bring this film to life. Her bid to become a master sommelier also felt authentic, helped by having a real master sommelier in the film. This is my second watching and I did indeed raise a glass. This story deserves more time to breathe, and Juan Pablo is a consummate leading man. Please do show us what happens next.

Modern Love Mumbai (2022– )

Mumbai infuses these love stories
13 June 2022
A wonderful anthology of different human stories, all thoughtful, heartfelt, character-driven. There is something for everyone here, and characters which seemed like people I knew, or people I wished I knew. Ignore those reviewers who just don't get it. Whether you are familiar with Mumbai or seeing it for the first time here, the city comes alive in these stories. I enjoyed this more than the original Modern Love series. I hope there is a season 2.

Good Morning Christmas! (2020 TV Movie)

Marc Blucas and Alison Sweeney bring the Christmas spirit
27 November 2021
Marc Blucas and Alison Sweeney make one of my favourite Hallmark couples, and I look forward to them teaming up again. They were so believable in The irresistible Blueberry Farm and have great chemistry here too in a different type of pairing. The look in their eyes, the smiles, the prickliness between them giving way to real feelings once they got to know each other. The magic of Christmas and the beautiful carriage ride at the end was perfect.

Christmas Homecoming (2017 TV Movie)
10/10
One of Hallmark's best
4 December 2019
This is a moving film and Michael Shanks and Julie Benz play the lead roles with emotion, tenderness and grace. Other lower-rated reviews on here are missing the essence of the film. A lot of Hallmark films are light and frothy and tread a familiar path - nothing wrong with that of course. This one with its military context, themes of overcoming grief, healing and believing again, and the magic of Christmas, is a Hallmark film with more substance than most.
