What's with the modern British accent?
18 January 2024
From the beginning , first scene, they are somewhere in Asia. Where they have been living for years. Main character Maya, speaks with perfect Londoner British accent. It's so frustrating to watch! How is that possible?! Why are all these new British actors allowed these days to keep their accent? I've watched Anthony Hopkins and Christian Bale for over a decade in different productions. They've never used their British accent. I blame it on the producers.

I live in London and I can precisely recognise the accent. First of all, I'm sure that many of us wouldn't find attractive to hear people speaking with their local accent in the movies they watch. Secondly, the accent as the facts, costumes, etc have to be historically accurate. It would be impossible for someone or highly improbable, to retain their original accent even if they work born in UK but lived in America, Asia etc for a long period of time. You either lose your accent or it becomes more suppressed/ muted.

Please stop these lazy productions and make actors put in a little effort to change or dampen their accent. Thank you.

Why everyone speaks with British accent?
22 September 2022
Bear with me for a second. I live in London and honestly I find it very off putting and unrealistic the everyone speaks with very strong and distinct British accent. It just feels like I'm watching my neighbours and locals acting in the movie. If you were from let's say Australia, wouldn't you mind if all actors spoke with Australian accent? In this movie , 90% or more spoken English is with British accent. A lot of new productions do this nowadays and I just can't bear it. It's both lazy and unrealistic. What happened with training to learn a new accent as other actors such as Anthony Hopkins or Christian Bale have done in the past?

Poor acting and no chemistry
28 March 2021
Just started watching this and I like the drama overall but I find the main character, the guy, very bad looking. He's not a good match for her at all 🙈 Is he considered to be a good looking guy in Korea? I don't understand... Besides the looks I'm not impressed at all with his acting. All he does is maintain a blank poker face with no expression - no emotion whatsoever is reflected on his face. The producers keep pairing up the wrong combination. Either he's good looking or her. Why can't we have both?! King eternal monarch is another example of ruined drama. Apart from that there is no chemistry between the 2 main characters. Very disappointing and difficult to watch. I was unable to watch more than a couple episodes.

James May: Our Man in... (2020–2024)

James May a rude man in Japan
7 October 2020
First of all I'd like to say upfront that I am a Top Gear fan and I've watched all seasons etc. It looks like when he worked with the Top Gear or GT production team they have more control or censored his real character. The actual James May is boring as many have said, very disrespectful to local culture and pedantic. In fact he's so pedantic he can't enjoy himself no matter the location or activity and this gets transmitted to the viewer. His poor treatment of Yujiro and endless exaggerated criticism bears no excuse. Overall it was borderline endurable to watch. I'm sorry Mr. May but do you really think Japanese people need your seal of approval with regards to their culture and way of life?

Disappointing is an understatement

The movie is less about the Genius Shakuntala and more about Vidya Bala. Kindly play the character and not yourself.....

Very promising start BUT...
24 November 2019
The series has a very promising start and likeable characters. The good part is that it makes the viewer care about them. The plot is very gripping and reveals gradually as it should, the costumes and fighting scenes are great BUT that's where the good part ends. Around 4th episode things start to go sideways. There are some "unbelievable" plot twists which don't make any sense and some really bad goofs in the fighting scenes which put me off completely. Ie. Guy gets stabbed repeatedly shot by 2 arrows and then gets up as it were just a scratch and carries on fighting and chasing his opponents. Simply baffling how they thought that was acceptable. That was such a big shame because I was really excited to watch this series...

All out British casting, sounds like a gang from South London
10 April 2017
Is it just me who is irritated by this or? Nearly the whole casting is British speaking with strong British accent. So they are trying to sell us that in the far far future where nations have unavoidably become so mixed they managed to find a group where 90% are from London or a London suburb. And they kept their British accent after 2000 years intact. That is ridiculous and very off-putting. I personally live in London and the dialogues sound like some people talking down at the pub...Just couldn't get over it. Imagine that you are from Paris and the whole crew in the film speaks with Algerian accent. I mean what are the odds? It's something like that. very stupid and very unrealistic. Is there anybody else annoyed with this?

The Mentalist (2008–2015)
4/10
Absolutely forgettable and highly overrated
24 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
First of all I have to mention that I really love TV series with criminal investigations similar to the Mentalist. I've been watching Criminal Minds, Millennium, Lie to Me, etc. And yeah, coming from that and seeing the ratings on IMDb I had high expectations from the movie. I can only be blunt and say what I've actually found: - apart from the 'Red John' part of the story everything else is simply forgettable - forgettable performances - forgettable stories each episode in Season 1 (as far as I could watch) - most other TV series had amazing pilot episode and were very promising from the start. Mentalist disappointed first and then carried on the same dull line failing to deliver on a promising plot line. - the whole investigation team has forgettable characters. no charisma, no personality, plus his boss is just annoying nothing else. My view mirrors some of the film critics' and this has to be on of the most overrated movies I've seen on IMDb so far

The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

First 2 Seasons good, Third Season NOT
13 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I just want to make a quick summary sharing my opinion about this film while comparing at the same time with other TV series. I believe the movie started really well, the story was very compelling, very good characters, etc. Everything was amazing. For the first season that is. Starting with the second season things started to fade a little bit. In spite of all that Second season was still OK, and is really worth watching. Starting with season three things really start to fall apart. From the point where they take refuge in that prison more precisely. This movie is the proof that, in spite a very good and very promising start, no TV series is safe from derailing on a wrong path -perhaps too many plot twists? - and keep on falling from there... As the best example for this I would give 'Game of Thrones'..Wait don't shoot..I really believe that since they killed Sean Ben they really messed up the movie. I still carried on watching it for a while but nothing really made much sense for me since that point on. Walking dead fails in a different way - if I may. It fails because of too many plot twists and too many unlikely turns of events. I don't mean to spoil anyone's pleasure to watch it. In my book the first 2 Seasons are still worth watching, but that's it.

Homeland (2011–2020)

Good TV series but a bit overstretched?
10 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When I came across Homeland I was looking for something similar to 24h which I've just finished recently. I want just to say a few general things about this TV series, as far as I see it from episode 4. I must say, I'm impressed by characters' depth and acting. Both Claire Danes and Damian Lewis play really well, having some very convincing performances. The screen play is also well written and has credibility BUT.... In the first 4 episodes nothing really happens, not even scratching the surface of the upcoming plot.We still don't know who is involved, what are they planing to do, what is the actual target, etc. I'm sensing an overstretched TV series in similar fashion with 'Lost' where, it always took them 3-4 episodes to reveal something.

If you are happy with that, the movie is brilliant. I guess it's a matter of taste in the end. I am now closing to the last episode of the series and I've got the feeling we'll be left with our mouths open waiting..But nonetheless it's a good TV series.

Enjoy watching it!

Funny Games (2007)

One family is tortured by two young men in a relatively isolated area. I felt tortured too
2 July 2008
Funny for who? For sick people maybe... Here's one of the comments made by one of the top film critics:

"In addition to being borderline unendurable, Funny Games is inexplicable, and I don't mean in any philosophical sense. "

This is what I felt when I watched the movie..finding myself covering my face with my palms ...it was very hard for me to watch people being tortured and effectively dragged in the mud while losing even the last bit of dignity..and for what?! A grotesque show? No...I prefer the ancient Colosseum to that... Completely ruined my evening, and of everyone else's in the cinema.A horrific display of one of the most damnable human characteristics... Do we need to see this in movies also? Don't we see it every day? What is to learn from a movie like this? That people can be monsters? People can also be wonderful,we all know that from movies like Forest Gump(you name it!) A really really dreadful movie, and a useless remake. There's nothing else here: only death. Death of human nature, death of cinema
