Wild Geese Calling (1941)
A great movie
A great movie based on an excellent book.. John Murdock started as an itinerant cowboy throughout the West, but begins to settle down when he meets and marries Sally. She puts up with his wandering until they start for, but never reach the goldfields. Several great supporting characters enliven the plot as time and experience go on. The closing episodes make a fitting end to John's wanderlust. The setting in the Pacific Northwest and Canada/Alaska coastal country just adds on to all the other elements of the film.
The movie is clean and entertaining and well worth watching---IF you can find it!
Star-Crossed (2014)
Ridiculous final episode!!!!!
I came across the program on Netflix and watched through the series.
It has its problems as many other reviewers have pointed out, but I found it entertaining with its somewhat scientific elements, its sociological plot points, and its romantic entanglements.
The continuity of the plot from episode to episode worked well and kept my interest as I watched from one to the next.
I have no quarrel with the network's decision to have only one season, although I think ongoing integration of the two societies and maturing of the characters could have allowed for more than one season. The bureaucracy of a network has its reasons for programming decisions and usually pay little attention to the viewers!
I must, however, assume that the writers were notified of the cancellation before the final episode was written and filmed because the ending bore little or no connection to the rest of the episodes! Earlier there was only reference to the one ship that had crash-landed on earth. There had been NO reference in any episode about some vast fleet of alien vessels waiting for a signal, so they could home in on any particular planet (such as Earth). True, the Trags wanted to set off a weapon to kill off the humans and keep Earth for themselves, but the logical finale of the season, even if there were to be no continuation, would have been to prevent the "explosion" of the weapon and let the young lovers and the integration program "ride off into the sunset".
One has to assume that the writers must have been so bitter that they wanted to make sure that no one could ever resurrect the series by completely eliminating half of the character base of the story. How sad!
