A beautiful story about loss and finding your way back
29 December 2018
I loved it - very subtle movie, amazing DOP. Even though this is a fantasy, the plot is very plausible and touching. I highly recommend it.

A very well crafted movie, you are not going to forget very soon

Warning: Spoilers
This film is mysterious and disturbing, way much better then any horror - thriller I have seen in a long time. I get that the intensity and the uncomfortable plot may get in the way of this movie being rightfully appreciated. But...come on... the cast is brilliant, all three of them are absolutely magnetic and so well defined as characters. Matthew Goode is almost getting away with murder and everything, you can almost understand why this is happening, that good he is in portraying a fascinating criminal man-child. Mia's interpretation is amazing in this becoming of age drama, really, with all of the complexity of the still scenes , almost unbearable to watch some times. Nicole is the best in balancing this wired love and hate triangle and I adore her scenes with Mia. The DP is a master of his profession for sure...I have never seen so much care for details in the frame and also the angles of filming are quite interesting (see the scene when uncle Charlie is moving slowly between what you realize it is a mirror and the hallway, beautifully shot and so well played by Matthew. In a split of a second his expression changes from maniac to charming fellow while camera is rotating). Do see this movie and make up your own opinion about it.

Most delightful romantic comedy
1 November 2018
I don't get why this title is so underrated. It's an absolutely charming comedy, I've laughed a lot, not just because of the witty script but also because the lead actors are so crafted, believable and cute together. I guess is a bit too light on drama and somehow innocent and this is why did not appealed to general public. But I have enjoyed watching it quite more then most of Hollywood's similar gender movies that got more appreciation in the end. Anyway, I do recommend this movie for it's beautiful play and cast, for great landscapes. That's a movie for smiles and good times and I guess for the idea that sometimes two strangers can make it through pursued certainties and fake predictability.

A Discovery of Witches (2018–2022)

A mature yet fantastic kind of adventure
21 October 2018
I never read the books - to be honest it is not my kind of literature and I did not liked Twilight at all. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this show and I was instantly hooked by the beautiful scenery and the magical chemistry of lead actors. Though the plot is pretty serious (you know... forbidden love, endangered creatures and mysterious manuscript quest) it has a lot of humor and through its sharp and sometimes witty lines I was able to enjoy very much what seems to be a modern and more aesthetic Indiana Jones kind of story. Each episode feels like a movie in itself, Matthew is magnetic in this role and Teresa's fragile yet powerful witch is promising quite an arch through the series. I'd love to see these characters moving through history while exploring their relationship in a believable way that separates the series from conventional violent vampire movies.

Later Edit: Now, after ending the first series and also reading the trilogy (yes, it got me reading the whole thing) I do hope that season 2 and 3 will have more episodes and let the story unfold in its own pace. I understand media and budget restriction but it is a superb narrative with superb cast to adapt it for TV, so it worth exploring it in all its splendor.
