Beauty and the Beast: A Latter-Day Tale (2007)
Cute, but...
I LOVE everything about this movie, except the acting. The house is gorgeous, the views are gorgeous, and the message is clear (and relevant). The cheese is strong with this one. It is everything you would expect from a low budget, Christian film. I would definitely recommend seeing this film.
Unleashing Mr. Darcy (2016)
Cute, but yikes....
I thoroughly enjoy this movie, but only if I have a glass of wine in my hand. The story line is cute and refreshing, but the role of Elizabeth Bennett was overplayed and Mr. Darcy was underplayed. Elizabeth literally gets mad at him for looking at her. I'm surprised she didn't yell at him for having eyes, breathing, EXISTING.... At one point I almost turned it off due to her ridiculous, out-of-nowhere hate for Darcy. Instead, I took another sip of wine and kept watching. I'm happy that I did. It is now one of my favorites. No, it's no 1995 Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth, but compared to other Hallmark-type remakes, this one is great! Another bonus is the dogs are ADORABLE.
A Princess for Christmas (2011)
Takes the prize
This movie is so horrible that I use it as the "0" in all my movie scale comparisons.
The acting is horrible, the "beautiful reveal" ballgown looks like what Cinderella was wearing before the Fairy Godmother showed up, and the story line is (even for a Hallmark movie) absurd.
I drank an entire bottle of wine watching this movie. This time not because I enjoy drinking wine, but because it was so bad that I was hoping drinking more would make it semi-enjoyable.
Christmas Incorporated (2015)
Adorably adorable
This movie is adorable and the chemistry is totally there! Despite having a bias for anything Andrew Walker, this movie completely delivered. It was cute, sweet, not entirely predictable, and my husband wasn't making puking faces at me the entire movie. As long as you don't think through the actual logistics of the movie, you will like it. Andrew does a great, believable bah humbug character and Shenae Grimes-Beech is adorable, like always. Although it follows a typical Hallmark movie story line, it still feels fresh and new!
Favorite line: "You can't cut me off from Christmas ornaments!!"
Christmas at Pemberley Manor (2018)
Still Waiting for Pemberley
As far as Hallmark Christmas movies go, this was one of the worst ones I've seen yet from them. (A Princess for Christmas 2011 still takes the prize.) This movie had so much hype, being the first of the new "Countdown to Christmas" season. As someone raised on the 1995 Pride & Prejudice (Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle), drooling over the grounds of Pemberley and the Pemberley mansion, when the camera showed this new "Pemberley Manor" it was as if someone tricked me with a poop flavored jelly bean. I was expecting something yummy, but was left betrayed and disappointed. The discouraging mirage continued. This movie lacked any chemistry. I like Michael Rady, and Jessica Lowndes is still growing on me, but together, they were unconvincing and awkward. Michael Rady should have talked to Colin Firth about how to be "Mr. Darcy."
Overall, there was nothing Pride & Prejudice or Pemberley about this movie, it lacked chemistry, and was stupidly predictable.
You Again (2010)
Lived vicariously through this movie!
This movie is fantastic! There are numerous review about how this movie is ridiculous and that "high school should stay in high school" and CLEARLY those are the people that were either the bullies or not bullied in high school. As someone who spent her high school years bullied, I lived vicariously through this movie! This movie completely captures (well, as much as a movie can) the feelings of jealousy, hate, envy, and lasting pain that comes with being bullied. Despite bringing up all those old feelings again, like ripping off a band-aid, this movie does a great job of showing you that even though your bully's life may seem perfect or something to envy, all that glitters is not gold.
My only complaint is that this movie is fairly predictable.
