Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Not as terrible as people think
The whole idea of this new season was bad, all episodes were flawed, but still there are episodes of over 9.0, which normally wouldn't have been over 7 if they weren't part of "Dexter". Everyone got excited that something awesome will happen, I was trying to be hopeful. First 3 quarters of the episode were really good, then Dexter killed Logan and "didn't follow the Code" and everyone got riled up.
What did you expect him to do? To chop Logan into pieces and make him disappear? Angela knew the truth about him, he was told Batista is suspecting it too. What else could he had done? When Angela had come back and see Dexter is no longer in the cell and Logan is missing, she would have probably thought they went out for a beer, right? For what to hide the evidence when you're already exposed? He had to get out of there as soon as possible, that was his only hope.
Now, the part with Harrison going up against his dad... that I'm not sure I can understand. Ok, he is shocked to find out his coach is dead, but still, he and Dexter seemed to bond, they understood each other's urges and now all of the sudden, he doesn't want to hear Dexter out, he doesn't want to go along with him as they planned and afterwards decide something. He didn't even have time to process the news, that he already changed his mind completely about his father. Seemed anti-climatic to say the least. It looked like they just wanted to kill off Dexter by the hand of Harrison and even though the course of the action wasn't going there, they forced it as a sphere through a square hole.
The part where Angela lets Harrison go is weird too. She wants to spare the kid of all the trouble, but it doesn't make sense. Once the feds get the case, what's her story to sell? They would have to wonder where the wandering son is now and how come he can't be found just as his dad shows up dead. There is a big chance that he would be on the run, which is unnecessary. They could just say it was self defence and as they reveal Dexter was a serial killer, I believe there would be no harm done for Harrison, he'd be certainly acquitted by any jury.
I'm not as disappointed, as I didn't fully love the season overall. I think people liked it out of melancholy for Dexter being back and as it wasn't a horrible comeback, they wanted the see it all good and get over ridiculous scenes. It was better than season 8, without a doubt, in my opinion. At least we got some closure even if I'm sad of how average one of my favourite series has become in this "New Blood".
Vikings: The Reckoning (2017)
Confusing season finale
First of all, I must say that one most painful moments of this show was watching Helga die. The most genuine and warm-hearted character in the series, who died trying to help.
The death of Ecbert didn't feel at all vengeful for me, as Ragnar wanted it. He looked like he was already a dying man who got the most out of the situation by tricking the brothers into accepting a false agreement. Not one piece of his hair was misplaced before he died. He got a better death than Ragnar.
And now by far the most ridiculous scene was the end. I don't mind Ivar killing one of his brothers in his uncontrollable rage, but why was Sigurd made up so badly all along? Even before his birth with all that build-up of Aslaug and the legend of her father and how her son is going to be the famous "snake-in-the-eye"... There was no scene where as an adult we could see his unique eye. He looked like any other guy, even weaker than his brothers, nothing special. Only taking his last breath we could see his sign. They killed him like he were nothing. What was all that about? Such disappointing writing.
