ParaNorman (2012)
8/10
Smarter than it gets enough credit for
6 January 2023
This film is a powerhouse of great writing and truly dark set pieces all held together with a very charming cast of characters ranging from every 80s and 90s horror tropes. But unlike these stereotypes, they're far more dynamic and play extremely well off each other.

The entire plot is a spoof of a cheesy zombie B-movie. But with that as a general premise, it's story goes far deeper going for a deep delve into a tale of dangers of the non-understood.

As a character, Norman is the typical bullied outcast with a strange fixation with ghosts and zombies. Usually, I hate the trope. But for a change, it's in service of a story of public perception and how their fear often leads them to commit such horrific atrocities that leave either an outcast or a chain of deaths.

It's truly intelligent and it's fair share of scares, laughs, twists and insanity that doesn't get enough credit.
