Cardinal (2017)
A moody masterpiece
Billy Campbell (John Cardinal) is the Demián Bichir of Canadian TV drama. He looks at the camera and says his lines and you believe every word he says, but more than that, you would give anything to know what he's thinking.
Drums of Africa (1963)
Math not a strong point
Lloyd Bochner's character lectures Frankie Avalon about women. He says there are ten thousand million women in the world. This is 1897. 10,000 million is 10 billion. Wow. They weren't even trying.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Fine movie-making
An unnecessary remake? Not a chance! Finely crafted on every level, with a few directorial quirks, but that's Branagh. Wonderful to watch and listen to. Great script. Perfect pacing. Flawless acting. Priceless one-liners. Agatha Christie brought beautifully to the screen. And I even forgive the CGI. Sometimes the critics are right and sometimes the public is. In this case, the latter. The movie made $350 million and hinted at a remake of "Death on the Nile." Go, Kenneth!
